I use semi-western grip for forehand and the same grip and face for one-handed backhand. The only negative about this is if the ball is low or deep on your bh side, you're pretty much screwed unless you change to continental grip and slice it or play a two-handed backhand...which I also do😂😂
Almagro did this on his return of serve.
Yes he did!
How does that help?
I use the same grip for my forehand and backhand but I use semi western grip. Is that good?
Do they have good durability? I got some but im considering returning them because people have been saying they wear out easily. Thanks
They are not the most durable. However the look and no break in period makes up for it.

I´ve had mine for a month now and they started to tear apart, not a best quality shoes , but comfy!
I´ve had mine for a month now - and I absolutely love them. I´ve had my eye on the Asics Solution FF Speed for a while ( as an upgrade to my Asics Padel Pro 4 - which has been excellent ), but ultimately went for the Lacoste, and I haven´t had a single moment of regret! They are so comfortable, very fast and great support - they felt a tiny bit stiff out of the box, but after 4-6 hours of play, they were totally broken in... feels so soft and snug on my foot , and of furthermore really stylish - I´m probably gonna buy another pair of these, when mine are worn out.... currently no other shoe on the market I´d even consider over these!
Slowing down the video, it looks like the racquet face is open at point of contact. That makes sense, or else the ball would never clear the net from such a low position.
Less talk, more demo, slow motion would be helpful. Comparing to more horizontal racquet face would be interesting and varying point of contact.
Solinco Hyper-G is not a soft poly!
Exactly what I’m using
I don't switch my grip either. Only difference is my FH grip is semi-western.
I do same thing 🎉
Great video, but about colors some people ( Chris from tennis warehouse, and tennis nerd) said that the clear colors it feel live in play, it means give you more poketing more felling about your shot more than the dark colors. me I try yonex polytour pro 1,30 (Yelow color) , and i like it give me more control, good poketing the ball. finaly, is the selinco hyper G have good poketing of the ball, I means the ball stay in the string??
I have tried the yonex polytour pro and keep going back to the solinco hyper G. It continues to be the most playable poly for my game. Most polys don't pocket the ball like a softer string, but hyper G does it the best (in my opinion).

Thanks for watching
cool, keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Unless you flip your racquet frequently, you'll also contact the ball on the same side of the racquet face leading to premature string breakage.
Don't think so mate
I would rather the string break early than trying to constantly remember which side of the racquet I hit my last shot
Coach - I say feet first - move the feet ti get into the position to hit the ball as cleanly as possible - is the ball to my FH or BH side? do I need to move L, R, Up or Back?? always I asked myself these questions - do I want to hit with topspin or slice? deep or short? angled or to baseline? etc
like button does not count either
good tips. videosound is wanky
Western grip Forehand is useless for power, depth, low balls and finishing points. Switching to Eastern
Like Berasateguy.. Same grip both side ( professionnel player)
Dude you must be joking, this is not ancient tennis anymore. Pushing the tennis ball was boring, let it RIP.
wouldnt work for the modern game at the higher levels (probably 4.0 and below?)
Yeah but the overwhelming majority of people just play casually and simply getting the ball back over the net with depth 5 times will win you the majority of your points
I think there are Japanese schools that teach to play every shot with the eastern grip. I actually hit most of my shots with an Eastern-ish grip. My forehand is semi-western.
The question is, why only play with one grip? I mean you have heaps of time when playing groundstrokes to change the grip. Hell Vic Braden even suggested changing grips on the volley.
The best video for anyone who has that grip and doesn't know yet how to use it effectively, struggling with useless worries.
I don't think there is any advantage for anyone who's already on eastern or semi-western forehand/backhand to try to switch back to continental. There are reasons why McEnroe and Edberg were pretty much the only two who had successes with the grip in the open era. And they both are history.
There is no way to use the modern forehand with the continental grip. So you can't play or compete at an advanced level with it. Rec level is fine. So it depends on your ambition. I wouldn't use it.
That is almost exactly what McEnroe's early coach told him. It's not for everyone, but I have seen it work at a high level for some.
@@drtopspintennis Had McEnroe adopted his coach's suggestion and switched to eastern forehand, there is no telling if he could have ended up with a better career. But if you told a junior Iga or Sinner to switch to a continental forehand and backhand, you would have definitely ruined their career.
I heard that Edberg also used one grip - though I have not researched this enough. Recently I decided to start using the continental grip selectively - I have used a grip between Eastern FH and SW but I want to flatten out shots - I want more pace and a lower bounce. As you said, a Cont. grip is made for attacking tennis! the most exciting kind of tennis, in my book.
Edberg actually uses the eastern backhand grip on all of his serves.
Hi a video for attack high slow ball into the court. Thank you from italy!
Need a 200mph serve, so yes
Imma have to agree, especially playing in a bubble. So therapeutic
Being able to change grips quickly is an important skill worth learning early on. You will have to change grips between serves, volleys and slices. Also, as you progress, chances are, your forehand or backhand changes (e.g. you might want to hit the ball flatter).
Thanks. Check out the full video on same grip. I do use a continental for serve, volleys and overheads.
Coach, can you get more pace/pop with Eastern grip over a semi western. I use a semi W grip but would like a little more pop = Pistol Pete Sampras used an Eastern grip. At least some of the time I intend on switching to the Eastern to hit a flatter faster shot.
You can definitely get more pace on an eastern grip; however your errors will go up more because of the lack of topspin.
Ok thought all this time your Eastern grip was my semi western grip
I play with a western grip. Only did an eastern for this video.
You are the first coach to say Eastern grip is easier and I completely agree. I can use both, however I always find western grip to harder with low balls.
I am using (Continental Grip) for both forehand & backhand and I have no problem.
Excellent! I suspect you can chip and charge the net better than most.
old school, Johnny Mac style!
I may have to do a Johnny Mac tribute video….
@@drtopspintennis if you do, remember that to win all those matches he had to break serve. Mac's return of serve, ground game, and tactics don't get enough respect. Example, on the return he would often try to go down the line, very aggressive, and on groundstrokes his cross court hard slice was a money shot. His lob was underrated too. Mac was much more than a slice serve to the ad court, what Bud Collins called The can=opener, and a volley to the open court, I hate Mac's antics and outbursts but his game at its peak was explosive, aggressive, and he deployed some of the best tactics of his day. BTW my favorite Mac match is the 1984 US Open SF match v. Connors. Have you seen it? Night time prime time match with the greatest announcing team ever - Tony Trabert, Pat Summerall, and John Newcomb. They had a camera set up low on the court behind the players so you could really get a great perspective on the shots. Only a handful of points separated the two combatants. Five set thriller!
Yes!! What a great match! His antics did really overshadow the quality of his tennis.
Great coaching.
lol
Interesting, but does this advice depend on using a continental grip?
It does not. It can also be used for flat, slice and kick serves.
classic hat - the Young Fed wore that model hat in 1999 as a teenager in a match against Rafter at French Open. Link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pH6ik7eTaJPMkbg.html
I'll try and would let U know.🤔
if you ever need to sell that L20 bag let me know :)
It is a great tennis bag for sure
Sold out everywhere in Europe an new one crap :(@@drtopspintennis
4th thing: you foot fault.
Busted!
Recently tried this in 20G and broke in an hour
If you hit with any power and spin, a 20G will not last. But you shouldn’t get tennis elbow….
Great video, I also like Solinco Hyper G, I found a cheaper and better replacement for it, the Pros pro Eruption try it out... btw as a pro stringer I would recommend that you string your racquet from the bumper to the throat, not from the throat up.
Thanks for the tip!
Love to hear your thoughts on confidential. I find confidential plays similar to hyper g. Slightly more stuff/dead, but more consistent across the stringbed. Hyper g feels pretty harsh outside the sweet spot, but better when you hit right on (imo). Personally, I go confidential but lots of my friends swear by hyper g
Genesis typhoon has better feel tbh better quality and tension maintenance similar to gut
I am currently trying out the Genesis Black Magic 16 gauge. Video to follow soon.
