18.02.2009: I'm terribly sorry folks, but due to copyright infringement (NOT reported by montypython, mind you), my "Before the Flying Circus"-series has rung down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisible.
Chittingfold is the most ingenious name, isn't it?

I think Jonathan Lynn is going too far in calling Monty Python the most misogynistic show ever. I'm black and I wouldn't call Monty Python the most racist show ever because they're aren't any black people. That would be unfair. It's true there should be more diverse representations of women, but that doesn't mean the show is blatantly misogynistic. Regardless, even though it was Homogeneous it was still funny and there intention was not to portray women in a bad light. In fact, based on the construction of the show I think it wouldn't have worked as well comically if they hired women instead of playing the women themselves. To be fair, if would have worked to a certain degree but it wouldn't have been as funny based on the kind of laugh the Pythons wanted. The real Misogyny is the lack of a counter balance a female version of Python during that era.

Forgive the belated reply, but I think the real problem is Jonathan Lynn judging 60s & 70s satire by modern mores. I doubt the Pythons were taking the mickey out of women with the Pepperpots or Mrs Yetigoosecreature; if anything they were mocking sitcoms and game shows of the time.

He was always my favorite. Even back when I first saw the show, he stood out for some reason. When coming back to Python when I was older last year, I was pretty disappointed to find out he was sort of a background figure. But he's still my fav.
