The only reason to run Adobe or Microsoft software is if you need them for work, no way around that. But for private use, using anti-consumer companies products is immoral. Vote with your wallets. Reject this predatory software. Use FOSS alternatives.

I personally use Xbox Game Pass quite a lot, and I'm always sad to see some games leave Game Pass. The first time it happened for me was with a really good Touhou fangame, called Touhou Luna Nights, it was on Game Pass around 2020-ish but got removed at some point. Then the next game I liked that was removed was Exo One, this strange and interesting little game about a space-ball-disc thing. Then they removed Outer Wilds, Hitman 3, and plenty others. It's very sad to see them removing all these absolute gems, while keeping garbage like FIFA or some really old strategy game with like 5 downloads on the service. Also some of only real major concerns that's keeping from switching to Linux is my software I use for college, like my emails and microsoft office programs like word and powerpoint, which in those cases, I'm sure there's good alternatives for Linux; but my most signficant concern is the fear of some programs just not working on Linux, even with Wine or whatever Windows-program-runner thingy that people use. The DAW I use to make music, FL Studio, is really holding me back from switching to Linux, as there is no native Linux support for FL and there's been reports that even using the best Windows-"emulation" software, some plugins and features are broken when trying to "emulate" FL Studio in Linux. Soo... that's my major concern

I really wanted to play wuthering waves on my linuz machine via lutris. Tried installing it only to be disappointed after looking up that the game with no competetice elements whatsoever requires a kernel level anti cheat. I mean even if i were to modify the memory of the game most of the things should be eaisly noticed by the server. The only things i could possibly do are modifying movement speeds and other stuff.

I encode to H.264 with an AMD GPU in Resolve on my Windows. What do you encode to with AMD GPU on Linux? Also, for image editing, I would somewhat disagree. Photoshop is established and has too much leverage power to lose its position. However, I've been using Krita for the last 5 or so years coming from a Photoshop background. I did not lose anything. I like the process in Krita more, it's somewhat more intuitive to me (although this is a preference). But there are other solutions, it's not only Photoshop.

You're right except when it comes to installing software. I prefer installing or configuring software in Windows over Linux any time of the year. It's such a painful experience. And let's not even mention compiling a program from its source. Not even starting with the pirate software, they can be such a lifesaver.

As you have shown fusion 360 (yeah I am an engineer as much as I like to play, I also want to run other apps, in this case fusion it is) So fusion runs fine but before everything we have to login with our autodesk account, I can login but after successfully logging into the account, my browser simply cannot find any app to handle that request, (as autodesk is trying to find an autodesk software)... If anyone is aware how to solve this issue, please hit me up !! Whether I have to install certain dependencies or anything more. Help would be much appreciated, Thank you for your kindness good sir. Have a nice day all.😊

Just use the alternative usual Open Source Software instead of proprietary ones whose vendor just sticks to proprietary OSes. Maybe at some point in time they loose enough customers to change their mind and support Linux/BSD as well. Yes, the OSS alternatives might not support all the proprietary vendor extensions, like for example to the OpenDocument file formats, and/or the UI differs, but in most cases they just work. Why use Adobe Acrobat Reader if you just can open the PDFs in your browser or OS provided alternative apps? With respect to overclocking I would say that some private users might want it, but Linux is usually less resource hungry then Windows unless of course you need to simulate/emulate an actual Windows OS on top. From the hardware life-time perspective overclocking is bad as well and newer CPUs (see recent Intel vs ASUS) do not really allow it without plenty of crashes anyway. Furthermore Valve is improving about the situation for games at least in multiple cases with its ProtonOS, so you might have just chosen the wrong distribution for "just executing native Windows apps under Linux OS" and/or an too old version/variant of Wine. In summary, just use the native alternatives if available and only if there is none see about translation/emulation layers like Wine/Proton/etc. to make your app work. As last resort execute it in a virtual machine that runs Windows on your Linux host.

I have a asus vivobook 15 laptop with AMD Radeon 5 3400U with radeon vega mobile graphics, and 20 gb ram. After seeing where windows 11 is going, I am considering switching over to Linux and I am wondering what Linux distributions I can use. I want to use a distribution that provides compatibility with different programs, as well as some games on steam. I also would like something with a file explorer so I can organise. Being able to customise is also preferred. What would you recommend?

I recently switched to Windows in KVM virtual machine with Looking Glass for gaming, due to literally 2 games, Fortnite and Roblox (the main one) not being supported. I play small games on Roblox with my friends often enough, that when it dropped support due to wine abusers, I simply had to go back to Windows. At least it's in a sandboxed virtual machine. Edit: I do know that waydroid (an android emulator for linux) does work with roblox, but you can't play desktop only games and at that point, I'd use a VM.

I've recently switched from windows to Linux like a month ago after being frustrated by having to reinstall windows almost every two months, let go of everything, why does windows take 50+ gigs of space after a fresh install while fedora takes up only 10 Gigs of disk space after a fresh install (after installing all the apps I used on windows, it's still under 20 gigs), second how the heck does Minecraft (Java 1.20) run at smooth 60 fps with vsync without any mods on fedora while on windows I had to install almost 20+ performance mods to just make it run at playable fps

I've tried a few distros because I've been thinking about switching from windows for a while. As it turns out, most major software only has versions for debian (for example google chrome and nord vpn). I really liked Manjaro but its arch, which made it impossible to use chrome or nord. And then, somehow, my manjaro got completely corrupted. So, no matter how I dislike ubuntu, that's where I ended up to.

Most software (as in actual programs) actually supports both Debian (deb) and RHEL (rpm), but they don't always show it, but current Trends move towards Flatpaks, Snaps or similar universal package formats anyway.

@@MichaelNROH Ok but there's nothing beginner friendly about that, I'm not entirely beginner (as in I have often used linux as a backup system and spent way too much time trying to complete tasks that could only be done using command line instead of a simple wizard) but Ubuntu is the most mainstream and therefore has quality of life improvements that other distros don't. Even automounting a drive, on manjaro i had to use command line to edit a system file, using instructions that took a while to complete, meanwhile on Ubuntu it was just a few quick clicks. And honestly, I barely understood what you wrote in your response, let alone use it in any meaningful way, let alone a complete beginner.
