    Use PVC pipe and attach marine fenders too the end of the pipe. I'd use a 9' length of 1.5" PVC pipe so three feet overhang each side.

Always willing to find new spots and get some pointers from a brother fisherman. Till then, happy fishing!!!🎣

    I’m considering getting one. My big question is how does it feel on your back after a while in the seat? I have a crapped out back and need something I can move around in a little bit. Last is just a me thing. It’s not a VIN number. The last letter “N” stands for number. It’s merely a VIN.

  • @SKMFishingChannel

    With anything, sitting for a while will mess with your back. For me, I have no issues. I stand from time to time with the assistance of the stand up bar and stabilizer for balance. But my back isn't crapped out. Seats are comfy but don't expect it to be zero gravity lol. I hope that answered your question. As for the vin#, it's a Hull Identification number if you want to get technical. Def need it to be correct to register it though. Happy fishing🎣

    They're called well nuts. Agree the intented single point mount on each rail is too rickety. It may work but would bug the heck out of me watching it flex.

    It's too bad a person can't reach far enough inside that round hatch to replace those screws with machine screws with washers and nuts for a stronger track install. You could replace all the track screws with hollow wall anchors which should secure the track making it more trustworthy.

    If you can adjust the trim, it may be good to try different angles. The better the trim, the more stable it will be.

    I have had stabilizers on my yak for a while now. I researched the best kayak stabilizers and ended up going with Scotty Stabilizers as the floats are inflatable which is more buoyant then hard plastic and the mounting hardware is better. Its mounted by a Scotty 141 mount directly on the top of the gunnel wall. (I'd NEVER install them with standard plastic track rail, risk of popping out is way too high). I first had them on with well nuts and it worked until they experienced significant torque and they popped. After that went with backing and now it's like it's part of my gunnels it's on there FIRM but there is still flex. They amount of flex has to do with how thick of plastic your Yak/Boat/Canoe is made of. Hard/Thick plastic naturally has less give lightweight plastics have more give. All in all I have been on water with heavy chop, whitecaps and rollers and didn't come to flipping in fact I've never flipped and don't plan on it either.. They do what they're supposed to do and give you confidence to stand and fish in most situations. I highly recommend direct to gunnel with a backing plate. That's the best possible way they can be installed to give you piece of mind they are NOT popping out.

    Hey, i use them on my kayak from time to time when im on the Detroit River. I don't use them on small lakes most of the time. The track makes a big difference i can tell, i have my setup on a Old Town sportsman 106 pdl with the after market metal gear tracks from ketch. Seem to help me out when the water gets choppy for sure. Be safe brother, and definitely add a thick cutting board, or metal bracket under them so they don't pull out of your johnny boat 🍻.

    Normally I wouldn't but since I'm taking it 6 miles out into the unforgiving ocean and fishing for King Mackeral, a little stability is much needed. Plus I'll be the first to do so in such a small craft in this tournament. It's a challenge, It'll be fun! Thanks for the comment.

    Jonny boat is more of a boat than a kayak. My brother has one and compared to my Pelican Basscreek, his is more of an SUV, and mine is more of one of those silly crossover car vehicles. 😂 He's going ocean fishing, so I won't blame him for adding protection. Another thing is that he can solo fish on almost any fresh water lake that has restrictions on gas engines.

    I removed the foot pedals immediately after purchase, they are a tripping hazard. I picked the craft because of the stability and pure simplicity. As my anchor is manual, my mini outboard is pull start with a tiller and I like to snorkel off the yak, too many obstructions and it become too hazardous. Personally I find the uni-track much more functional as for instance a rod holder can be loosened and moved way up or down the track with just a thumbscrew, in a matter of seconds. If you do not like the tracks you can totally remove it and just plug the two screw holes. I sit backwards and steer with the tiller while trolling, this craft is perfect for this. When cutting off those adjustment wings on your seat at the articulation point then your seat will also fit in sideways in the kayak, if you not a stiffy then this is a great way to troll or sit with your feet hanging off the side while your bum stays dry. Lovely while anchored bait casting or dropping bait deep. That hole in the hull is to hang a transducer I believe and mine actually sits tightly inside, hot-glued sealed, not leaking, huge difference. Slip a 1/2" or smaller diameter upvc hose around the bottom of the pod and hotweld the ends together but leave some breathing holes, when you drop in the pod the press hard down before clipping it in, it will seal and reduce the amount of water spilling in under the pod. I have seen guys closing the bottom of the pod opening with resin and fiber, for myself under your pod is where I have my live bait bag. I had a leaking hatch, the one on the stern bulkhead, the casing was cracked due to the bulkhead no being molded flush (yours seems to be way better than mine) and as you screw the hatch on it bends the casing back flush hence the cracks. I told them I would fix it myself, Feelfree delivered 2 new hatch assemblies with a rubber sealant. No issues since. The Johnny Bass is a good little boat, don't let those small imperfections get you down, Good luck to you.

    Or the drive and steering from the kaku Zulu?

  • @SKMFishingChannel

    Great video sir! I’m VERY interested in this boat. Trying to figure out how to mount a pedal drive in/on it, with steering. The pivot drive from nucanoe? Something else? Let me know your thoughts please.

  • @SKMFishingChannel
    @SKMFishingChannel5 ай бұрын

    Thank you! Mounting a pedal drive in the location of the Jonny pod is possible with a little customization. Keep in mind, you will need to install a steering rudder system as well ( which would require customization). Also remember that the Jonny boat is used more as a boat with the ability to add a trolling motor and outboard. Using the Jonny boat as a "kayak" is possible but not ideal.
