    Same experience. That whiteness comes through during minimal stretching on the cotton jersey I ordered too. And the fabric is so stuff and just...not soft feeling at all. Almost scratchy feeling. Even after washing. Same experience with Raspberry Creek Fabrics too. Ugh.

    I just ordered material from there for a quilt. I am not happy with the stretch factor. It feels very plastic and cheap. :-( Had I known, I would have not ordered it. I will not order again. I hate this material.

    I wish I'd seen this before I ordered. I just placed my first order and got their "petal signature cotton". The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the smell. It was overpowering. The printing wasn't as vibrant as I expected for the price, either. I'm making face masks, so I put the fabric through the wash to get rid of the smell and the strange starchiness it had. Big mistake. The fabric unraveled significantly. I had 3 pieces and they all became so entangled, I had to use scissors to separate them. The smell pretty much came out and there's enough still in tact that I can make the masks, but all in all, it was a huge disappointment given the cost. I won't order there again.

    Good and fair review of your experience. The clothes you made were super cute! Love the dress. I have ordered cotton poplin from Spoonflower with no issues, no smell. I will say that some prints are a smidge less vibrant than expected and a good quality that wash up well.

    Thank goodness that smell isn't an issue anymore, lol! I've gotten about $2000 worth of their fabric so far this year and it's all smelled nice and fresh! I use the modern jersey often, and also noticed that it goes white when stretched. Unfortunately that's just the tradeoff for custom surface printed fabric versus a woven design. I don't think it's a quality issue per se, it's just what happens when you surface print on a stretch knit. I grabbed one order of their signature petal cotton, just to see if it was a good budget option for non-stretch, and while it prints beautifully, the quality is complete garbage, it almost feels like paper towel, but their minky and higher priced cottons are just gorgeous. Save your money and don't mess with the petal cotton.

  • @deaguirrrock
    @deaguirrrock Жыл бұрын

    The petal cotton is definitely not as soft as the printed cotton from Hobby Lobby or the calico/quilting cotton fabrics. It is sturdy enough for more crafty stuff. I do like the quality of the printing, but have had to realize their velvet printing can let the white show through if you fold it sharply enough. Dyeing velvet is something I would rather do for solid colors. Overall, spoonflower's not bad. Just depends what the expected use is. The samples/swatches are useful though.

    I ordered 5 single yard pieces just to see what it was all about. I ordered the basic woven cotton. 👎👎👎👎👎 It was some of the lowest quality I have ever seen. When I pulled a thread to find the straight grain it was awful. The print wasn’t printed any where near straight. And you are right about the smell.

  • @judydrake444
    @judydrake4444 жыл бұрын

    I chose 2 different fabrics and was going to order just one yard each. The price slowed me down a little but what made me stop was their delivery. It would take 24 to 28 days until ship date and then the wait on the actual shipping. That is too long and unsatisfactory to me.

    I know this is an older video but since I just came upon it and I'm a budding Spoonflower designer as well as a quilter and fiber artist I wanted to comment. Please remember when you are ordering from spoonflower you are supporting independent artists. The artists only get a small commission and if the fabric was cheaper they would be making hardly anything on the designs they are creating. Try to think of it as buying artwork, you are basically getting a fabric that it is unique so the items you make are truly one-of-a-kind. Also when it comes to the stretching of the fabric, because it is printed on the top of a white fabric that is unfortunately the nature of this type of process. The fabric isn't being woven from colored threads or other processes that will make the inside not white. You need to think about what the product is and how it is made and be careful when you are comparing it to things you buy from big fabric companies. This is print-on-demand in small quantities done with digital printing, not large quantities in big factories. P.S. If you like geeky designs then you might want to check out my shop. :) www.spoonflower.com/profiles/sakuraskies

    I don't suppose you know, is it ok to sell products made using spoonflower fabric? Can't seem to find this info on their website..

    charlotte07071 I was looking this up and found a response from Spoonflower on a similar question. They said it was OK to sell handmade items from Spoonflower fabric. They also said to consider posting a review and a product picture on the spoonflower sellers shop, it will benefit you both.

    I wonder what the fire safety rating is on the fabrics from Spoonflower? Have you looked into whether the inks/dyes they use for printing are flammable since they give off such fumes?

    Hi Nichole, your little girl is so gorgeous 💕...and she looks adorable in her outfits 😁. I have made the pinafore from Blank Slate patterns too and it's so fab that it's reversible isn't it 👌. I also made the petite pegs, wee lap tee and the teeny beanie and all came out great. I think you would like Brindle and Twig patterns too and she has a great hoodie that comes together really well and is a really snuggly one for the winter time. Enjoy your sewing for your gorgeous girl 😁💝😘
