  It's not exactly a new restoration... This engine was set aside for preservation back in the 1960s, and with the exception of the period from about 1975 to 1986, and 2007 to 2021 (IIRC), has been running ever since. This video just shows her being put back together at the end of her more recent overhaul.

  The V sets will be replaced by the D sets in 2021. It's currently November 2023 (at the time of writing this comment) and they still haven't entered service.

  These trains were ahead of their time, they were the first with aircon, and I think the seats were the best ever. The doors are a bit weird (not wide enough either) in that at the station, the doors didn't open automatically, they couldbe easily slid open manually. They then closed automatically!

  The V-Sets Are The Finest Commuter Trains In The World!! Certainly The Best Australia Ever Produced; They Should Still Be Building Them, Without Changing Anything, If The Last Are Wearing Out, Which I Doubt Very Much!!   I agree, but the higher boiler pressure is largely to blame. I’ve seen smaller locomotives wear the same whistle and it sounds way deeper.
