At 3:48 the gentleman donning the Cromwell helmet is Bud Rose ( real name Harry Eisele). He was Clark Gable’s stunt double in the 1950 movie “ To Please a Lady”. His most notable achievement was winning a 500 mile race for Sprint cars at Riverside International Speedway in 1958. The race was sanctioned by the CRA.

I have AAA yearbooks for 1950 through 1954 and in those "Big Cars" were sprint cars. I have never been able to find out how the Championship cars became the "Big Cars" during the USAC years. Donald Davidson always refereed to the Champ cars as the big cars and he had no explanation.

Back when this was made record speed wasn’t well regulated, it might vary several rpm plus or minus. I played it at 78, which might not be exactly accurate for this record.

The mom and dad remind me a lot of the Hollywood couple Barbara Hale and Bill Williams. She of course played Della Street on Perry Mason, and he was a popular character actor. It's uncanny how much they look alike.

I wanna be friends with these girls! They seem so much fun. Amateur disk recordings are some of my favourite historical oddities ☺️ Edit: After another listen, this record is surely made c. 1946 or after. The singer Rosalie Allen released a cover of ‘I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart’ that year with loads of yodelling which sounds almost identical to this! These girls must’ve been doing some karaoke haha

Why did they move it? The reason I ask in the late 1960-70s my family would buy these houses that where the SB210/330 was built at 30th st to Hst and towards waterman ave they sold those homes and my grandmother had property in Colton and had two home moved from the construction of the crosstown fwy to her property! It’s funny because we were at a friends house in the ‘80s that didn’t get demolished or affected from the build had the same layout as my grandmothers house in Colton! It was from the same tract from that neighborhood. My mom bought one she later sold with property in Berdoo.

I am watching this from Germany following up a documentation on Mario Andretti. Reading about engine size and horsepower available in this class I am out of words. It seems in a way a surreal blend of 30s racecars (Bentley, Alfa, Maserati) and Mad Max vehicles. The drivers (ex)position and angle of the wheel is just extraordinary. What a wild world of racing concepts. Thankyou.

I was on Bill Stulla's House Party for my 4th birthday and I really wish there were a You Tube video of it. Someone had given me a pair of panties with a heart "pocket" sewn on them. I wore them to the show that day and I told my mom that I could put my wishing well money into my pocket. She said that no I could not do that. But once I was back stage, I thought to myself, what does she know and put my dime in my pocket. When Bill got to the part of our discussion where I had to present my wishing well money, not only did I show him and the rest of the world where my money was waiting, the dime would not come out of the pocket! I remember him laughing, turning red and turning around discreetly while a lady from backstage came out to help retrieve the wayward dime. Then I went over to the table with the rest of the kids and had cake.

My mom made two such discs. I have them, and I copied two of the four sides to cassette a long time ago, but they are now so fragile I'm afraid to play them any more, even with a light-tracking magnetic cartridge. Due to flaking, some small spots are missing grooves.
