    I remember hearing an alternative explanation for Duryodhana's achilles heel (or thigh, in this case). it had something to do with him saturating every other part of his body with pain (like taking hotter showers in the hopes of becoming fire resistant), and just ignored his thigh/crotch? I have no idea where this is even legit. It's probably not, but tbh, it's a lot cooler.

    To your point as to why Bhima's dad is the wind god, I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) that it comes from an association of earth with traits such as femininity and peace (Bhoomi devi, and her daughter Sita, Parvati, and various others). I could be very wrong here, but this does seem to be a trend in other cultures (very explicitly in China but various cultures have an Earth mother archetype)

  • @swattdeeds
    @swattdeeds13 күн бұрын

    You are correct! Bhuma Devi is mainly known for being a symbol of femininity, a caring mother, peace, and a bearer of great burdens. But this has always bugged me, strength should be on that list of traits.

    I always love to think the real reason Shiva is married to Parvati and Kali is because Kali fell head over heels for Shiva and nobody tried to stop the marriage despite Shova already being married for fear of what Kali would do to them if they did, and/or the thought of how Kali would handle rejection is a thought not even destroyer of the universe Shiva wants made a reality. I mean she did almost cause the apocalypse because Durga was frustrated, imagine how rejection would end?

  • @swattdeeds

    Kali reminds me of the Lovecraftian gods. She’s not good nor is she evil, Kali simply is. A avatar of life, and it’s destroyer, a maddened and sadistic butcher and a loving protector, a peaceful ambience cover and a death metal album cover. Also I love how in the myth where she nearly destroyed the world she literally bursts from Durga’s head like Athena, and then literally kills the antagonist by draining is blood and drinking it all, and eating his clones. And when Durga says the fights over and time to go Kali just goes “Leave? I just F*cking *got* here! And I’m far from done, b*tch!” and goes full berserker. Hindu mythology goes hard when it wants too.

  • @swattdeeds
    @swattdeeds13 күн бұрын

    Hindu gods in general are like the big gods in Lovecraftian mythos like Yog-Sothoth and Azathoth. Hindu concepts may have inspired Lovecraft. Kali hits extra hard as a rock metal icon haha!

    4:28 alright. You've got to educate yourself here a bit, not just you, but the majority of people who attribute Karna's "mistreatment" to casteism. Drona, the guru of the Kauravas and the Pandavas, also taught Karna. The point where he stopped appeasing the boy was when he insisted on gaining knowledge of the astras. Drona grew suspicious pf him here, since Karna only seemed to desire this knowledge to be greater than Arjuna in battle, so it was not right to support this ego of his.

  • @swattdeeds

    @@swattdeeds good to know! The version that I'm referring to is what Vyasa wrote in his Mahabharata, as far as I'm aware. It's just tv serials and retellings over time that alter the original quite a bit and lead to wrong understanding of the events narrated.

  • @swattdeeds
    @swattdeeds13 күн бұрын

    @@kaushiksunapu5657 I think it's a general thing with religious stories that they tend to alternate as they spread. I wouldn't call that a wrong understanding but instead altered to fit their own region's cultural takes. In the Tamil version of the story that I am aware of (there are many Tamil ones too 😅), Karna is often portrayed as a heroic figure who is discriminated against because of his low caste background. This theme of social injustice and discrimination against lower castes is a recurring one in Tamil literature and culture. The Tamil retelling of the story of Karna thus serves as a way to highlight these social issues and challenge the prevailing caste-based hierarchy.

    3:55 when in the world did this happen😭😭. I know its just for fun, but it was Karna who was adamant on murdering the Pandavas as a kid with his dear evil friend Duryodhana, this has little to do with casteism lmao

    I do have to point out that different regions have their own take on the story. I did mention that in another Hindu video which I will share the link to the time stamp is 19.50 and the link is directed to it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X2Wbkqqoh8rOiqw.html He was adamant in fighting the Pandavas and defiantly set on defeating Arjun, and in the story I am familiar with Karna's resentment was highly influenced by the fact that he wasn't allowed to learn archery due to his birth cast (even though he is actually a son of god and only the adopted son of a charioteer)

  • @kaushiksunapu5657
    @kaushiksunapu565714 күн бұрын

    2:25 also, the story isn't meant to be taken literally. It's important to understand the lesson on a metaphorical plane. Ganesha, or Vinayaka, is made up of the dirt of his mother, so representing negative qualities such as arrogance and ignorance, which display in his behaviour opposite to Shiva. This is why Shiva had to destroy his head, where all of the negativity resided. It's also worth considering that Ganesha's creation was only brought about with Uma's, or Shakti's part of the process. Since Purusha, or Shiva, had no part in this union, the child was automatically incomplete, which was rectified by Shiva when he contributed to the revival of his son.

    To sum up what you are saying about gods matching Shiva for Greek/ Roman it would be: any being above a titan (So Gia and her husband.) OR you might only mean gods that were there at the start of everything so that would be the being we call Chaos who made Gia, eros, and many of the beings that made the titans then there would be no matching equivalent for Norse as Odin is the strongest god and only one being came before him and his brothers Possibly the Buddha but he is not a god by technicality There would be 2 gods from Japanese (or chinese) mythology but i forget their names Outside of these I cant think of many primordial gods or goddesses primordial deities being those who were around at the start of time or existed before the universe and created it

  • @swattdeeds

    As you pointed out Chaos would be a good matchup. Norse gods can't come close. I don't know how Buddha's power scaling works 😅 I only know he was human but then became an enlightened being. Don't know anything about Japanese or Chinese mythology so I have no idea. That's why went to the Lovecraftian deities who think the basic concept was inspired by Hinduism.

He is the universe, the palm of his hand can represent its entirety his finger can be a vast range of mountains his breath a hurricane. Okay, two things about Simba being defeated in those times: 1. He was caught off guard by that move the lioness did. No one in the pridelands had learn that move before. 2. Right, the hyenas finished Scar, but who was the one who pushed him off the cliff for them in the first place? 😎 3. Lastly about Zira... Years of lack in practice? 😅

  • @swattdeeds

    He was actually struggling with Scar a bit, which really shouldn't happen cause he's really, really old. Scar did sneak attack, but he wouldn't have even tried that with Mufasa, even in his prime. I don't think Simba is as strong as Mufasa. It could be that he didn't have a chance to train while he was growing up. That's why he couldn't even beat the Lionesses, who are half his size. Also, Simba is mostly good-natured and doesn't have that beast in him. Unlike Mufasa, who can flip the switch from kind to beast mode. Also, whenever a comparison between Simba and Mufasa comes up, I am often reminded of a Fresh Prince joke. WILL: You are the king of the jungle, Mufasa. You are the ruler of all that you survey.- UNCLE PHIL: Yes.- WILL: You will be obeyed!- UNCLE PHIL: I will be obeyed!- (Angry daughter walks by) UNCLE Philip: Hi, sweetie, you look awfully pretty.Well, I guess I showed her. WILL: You ain't nothing but Simba.😅🤣😂
