    Did you step-prime these stars?

  • @1shubing
    @1shubing4 ай бұрын

    Even though I was going from a cool burning comp (blue) to a harder to light comp (red), I did not step prime between colors. I wanted a crisp color change. So I used a hot igniter prime (fence post)on the blue (between colors). It worked just fine.

  • @edwinlee750
    @edwinlee7504 ай бұрын

    @@1shubing ahh ok, it looked very cool. How much did they grow when you finished applying that relay layer? Also what % of magnalium was in that red comp?

  • @edwinlee750
    @edwinlee7504 ай бұрын

    Hi, I have a question about the step priming process. In the video you mixed a color comp with a bp type comp, so that the bp comp can light the color comp smoothly. But if we roll a color comp on top of another color comp with a similar makeup (i.e buell red on top of buell green), would step priming be necessary?

  • @1shubing
    @1shubing4 ай бұрын

    Generally, step priming is used to get good fire transfer from a cool burning comp to a hard to light burning comp. It takes a little experience to know which is which.Charcoal and blue are cool burning. Greens are generally hard to light. And even then, I tend to step prime to some extent. When in doubt, step prime.

    unlike cylinder shells, with round shells you don't have to use a percent per pound. But rather a certain amount for each shell size. with a 12 inch shell I use 450 grams of 4fa.

    I recently started using this method and my color stars come out great. On the other hand, my charcoal stars have this weird problem where they start to 'swim' around in the sky and they burn faster than usual. I've rolled the same stars with dextrin in the past and that wasn't a problem. Not sure what's going on there.

  • @1shubing
    @1shubing Жыл бұрын

    I had that happen one time when rolling a tiger tail comp using the regular spray and dust method. Not sure why. I've not had that problem yet with Toro, but my charcoal stars usually have metal in them. I would try affing a little alcohol to the toro slurry and make sure to dry the stars fast (sunny day or drying box) and make sure they are dry before adding the next layer. Maybe also rolling on smaller layers. Good luck.

Should all the line made from cotton, or can be mix with linen, PE line ? i think we lost the core line of string here . . . core string for draging the powder in to the fuse ! maybe if we use the first die cotton string , and the 2nd string pe, would it be cheaper and stronger ?
