This channel is dedicated to giving people with no construction education the basics they need to get started on their own home project or in the construction field of there choice. The information here will NOT be for the veteran contractor. I want to focus on what you learned in your first few days on the construction site. We need the next generation of construction workers.

Sounds like this dude got into the rotation of do-it-all website contractors who give up 50 dollars or so a call to scam someone out of about 400 dollars. 1st I'd never hire anyone from a plumbing company to build and install a sink. 2nd, these hack websites like Angies and a few others just send out the "skin'em once" folks that go through all the customer base too lazy, ignorant or cheap to hire a professional. They don't get call backs, but that's ok they are usually off to the next sucker.

So you know this company? I am not personally acquainted, although I did become intimately acquainted with their work ha ha. If you have any other stories about their work, please DM me and I will share them on this channel. I will keep you anonymous or give you credit your choice. If this really is a company doing bad work in the area I want to make them famous. This kind of thing brings the whole industry down.

Given how crooked the cuts were, I disagree. I guess a sawzall because of the depth of the cut. You can see it on the front of the cabinet. The blade was at least 4 inches probably longer. Also, like I said, it was very crooked not straight at all.

That red seems to be hard to hide. I had to patch a wall that just would not sand flat. The dimples just would not level out, but because I was using an eggshell and the lighting wasn't great, I did not notice the dimples until the paint was on. I'd sand, feel the wall, paint and wait, then repeat. I finally gave up after about 4 or 5 coats. I used to be a pro painter. Now? Not so much, but I can live with the imperfections that only I would notice. Great video! It's good to let people know that real life doesn't always run smooth on the first try. Dusting off and trying again until you get it right is the way we develop skills and character, right?

@@DestinyContractors No, it wasn't pinholes or air bubbles in the mud. It was nail holes that puckered out. So, I used the back end of a screwdriver handle to push the puckers in, making dimples, about a half inch diameter and maybe 3/16th deep. I filled and sanded...they just kept showing up. It's like the wall has belly buttons! I think only I would notice them, because I put them their. One day I'll probable put an orbital sander on it and grind a perfectly flat wall! What's that trick you learned, hmmmm? I love those little tips that solve routine problems. Please do share your master wisdom? 🙏

@@DestinyContractors Awwwww, you shouldn't have to go through that sort of BS. It's just work boots and you didn't say or do anything even remotely controversial. But you know, people these days are so frustrated that they just look for a dog to kick around and I guess they picked you while scrolling through shorts. All it takes is one to get the whole hornet nest of them buzzing with a snide comment and they'll all start trolling you. Yah, just delete their comments, if you don't have time to help them learn why antagonizing people just because they don't think or do the same things as you, isn't cool. I actually just finished up with a "discussion" with one of them yesterday. The video was about how 99% of young people aren't thinking for themselves these days and when they get riled up by influencers they just let the insults and attacks fly at the influencer's target. I called it tribalism and pointed to the ego boost and false sense of security these online warriors get from being part of the influencer's cult following. Well, some kid had to come along and say EVERYBODY HAS AN EGO, trying to justify the group-think and trolling. I said, YAH, EVERYBODY HAS A MOUTH, BUT WE DON'T ALL LIE AND EAT JUNK FOOD. GARBAGE IN -> GARBAGE OUT. Anyway, I kept it civil, but explained my POV, while the kid was making all kinds of false assumptions. I corrected him...including the comment he made that people like me, criticize people who act like they're always right, while I'm one of those people who acts like I'm always right, which is hypocritical. He tried a few times to peg me as a hypocrite. So, I explained, everyone has a unique POV and they could all be 100% right for themselves in their personal circumstances, but not necessarily right for EVERYBODY else, and that's why it's important to respect the opinions of others, even if you don't agree with them. That pretty much ended the discussion peacefully, but he was really trying hard to piss me off. He asked me why I talk like a bot. I said SELF-DISCIPLINE, EMOTIONAL MATURITY AND INDIFFERENCE, adding that what other people think and do isn't my business and what I think and do isn't theirs. You're right, it is rare to get pleasant people to talk to. Some people are too busy, some are too frazzled with illness and money-troubles to even think straight and others are just rabid with frustration, anxiety and depression to even act civil. Life is still good after 2020, but everybody know it could and should be better than it is. That goes for everybody in the world! We're all feeling the pinch and we're all on the same side, even if we do have different interests and priorities. Anyway, leave that lecture for the future vultures that might come to pick at you. I'll come rescue you. :)

Under water! Hahaha! OK, you bough a house with a murder room and a room to drown in. But you love it, right??? It looks like you have real solid hardwood molding there. • @DestinyContractors
    @DestinyContractorsАй бұрын

Plaster and lattice went out sometime in the 1940s. This house is somewhere in the mid 60s. The main thing that characterizes the 60s is the houses were still built with a lot of hand tools and very sturdy. Generally, we didn’t start seeing poor construction until the late 70s early 80s. Somewhere around the 1950s post World War II, the houses started to be built with less flush. Smaller trim, smaller rooms, more practical. If you’re looking for a good house that you don’t need to show off to all your friends this time period is perfect. 👍 To be honest with you, I have bad claustrophobia, and a fear of water. I keep that room shut and don’t go in there. Not looking forward to painting it.

@@DestinyContractors I bought a 60s brick and cinderblock house with metal lattice and plaster walls Wow! Was that ever a challenge to reno. I got cuts from the metal lattice and dislocated the bone at the base of my left-hand middle finger from trying to pound holes in hard plaster and was really covered in plaster dust while ripping out that bathroom down to the cinderblocks. There was no insulation. The one thing I remember most from that job was this story. I was feeling like having Italian for dinner that night. I was dirty-white with plaster. In my neighborhood the closes Italian restaurant was a mafioso business meeting place. Swank, expensive, but good food. So I walked up to the door, poked my head in, got the attention of the bar tender-server and waved him over and outside. He came out. The place is never busy and they only had the one guy doing all the work out front. I explained. I know I'm a mess, but I've been busy all day renovating a bathroom and I'm hungry for Italian. Can I come in, looking like this? He said wait. I'll go ask the boss. Two minutes later the boss comes out, opens the door, poke his head out to look at me. He was stone-faced and didn't say a word. He was gone in three seconds. I was sure it was a no-go. Then the bar tender-server came out right away, opened the door wide and said come in. He seated me right in line with the front door and close to the bar. A couple of suits, talking business on the other side of the restaurant were the only other people in there, but there were reserved table signs all over the place. Got my food and wine with 100% quality service and was almost ready to settle up the bill when the crowds started pouring in! Man!!! I was more concerned about being a hot mess than the bar tender-server seemed to be. But, in my way of thinking, if you're in business, my money's good, no matter what my business is and that mafia boss seemed to agree. LOL! Hmmmm, yah, I can see why you want to get the blue pool room painted, but are putting it off. I don't like deep water or tight spaces either and I procrastinate when I have to do taxes. I hate taxes, because I don't like government getting up in my business at all for any reason. Try putting on some yellow or pink shaded glasses while you work it that room. Or maybe you can put a filter on the ceiling light or get yellow or red light bulbs. Yellow will make you see green and pink will make you see purple. Green is woodsy, like the forest and purple is... go with the green! No need to feel like you're trapped inside a giant grape or artery while you're in there. LOL!

Just a suggestion of another way that is "smoother" but if you are mudding the whole wall that works still add the pieces behind to screw in but you just cut the paper around the square and carve the rock out behind the piece you are putting in and leaving basically a paper flap around it and can mud it that way. If you mud the whole wall that way is just fine. However just small patches can do it w/ the carve.

@@0311USMC26 you should really do a video on that. Sounds interesting. I think I’ve seen something like that before. Not sure. I am definitely not the best drywaller out there. Self taught. This is the kind of dialogue that I am looking for in the comment section so thank you

@@DestinyContractors All good, just other ways to end up with a similar result just perfecting your craft. I've done many home renovations. However my YT channel does not reflect that. Built houses in SC, MA, ME. Frame to Finish or just a lot of Kitchen Bath remodels later vs new construction.

It was not easy to remove. We did reuse the same sink and faucet in end.

Thank-you, someone posting a patch when they actually put backing in and tape it and float it. I despair seeing so many 'professional' patches that are garbage. This one is done well

Thank you so much for your positive comment. I’m sure there are many people who can do a better job than me. Not really a drywall guy.

Why not use a metal blow out patch, save time and money ?

Excellent question. If you look at the proportions, you’ll see that that hole is about 10“ x 6“ Those patch kits aren’t really designed for something that big. You can use them, but I had several holes to patch in the house and so a seven dollar piece of drywall and some scrap boards out of my truck worked better for me. Thank you for your question.

Stick two of them together and do multiple thin coats. I’ve never had a problem.

@@philly871 it’s cool that you have your own way of doing things. Personally, I don’t prefer that way. I think I answered your question to my original comment if not, try rephrase it.

That’s a good trick. Frankly, this was a rare day for me to get my boots wet at all. I’m long past that stage in my career. Thanks for the reminder and adding to the conversation.
