Yeesus, their gonna starve and her too. What a pathetic provider! Sad. 🤬😢
@socalfun64 Hoopoes bring food to the oldest chicks first. They managed to bring as many as 260 insects per day so they are good providers. Everything depends on the weather. If it rains, it is harder to get food. Both Hoopoe parents have been doing their best to feed their chicks. There are 4 strong and healthy chicks ready to fledge now (on 15th June).
Mom seems inexperienced at getting the food in the chicks mouth. The dad on the other hand seems to have no issues with getting the chicks to take the food
@shannonspage9360 Dad had problems at the beginning and thus had to wait for Mom to return to pass the food to her, so that she could feed the chicks. Later on, it all depended on the size of the 'snack'. If the 'snack' was too large for small beaks it was difficult for both parents to fit it into the small beaks. At this moment (15th June), chicks are about to fledge and there are no problems with feeding them. Thanks a lot for your great comment! 😍😍
It looks like she is only interested in feeding the large chicks and not the small ones that hatched later. Do they only feed whole items and don't break it into pieces to feed more chicks instead of just gorging one? This also appears to be her first brood.
@shannonspage9360 Yes, the oldest chicks are fed first. You are right. Hoopoes do not break food into pieces. Thanks a lot for your great comment. 😍🥰
The babies hatch so small in comparison to the adult size.
@shannonspage9360 Yes, they are really tiny. 😍
Shadow and Jackie rebuilding for next season already😁
@judydarwin4342 Yes, they are. They bond in this way. 😍
Thank you for this video. Just great to see these magnificent birds build their nest. On top of that they have a very scenic view. Love seeing them up close. Thank you.❤

They keep on working on their nest. Does This mean they're gonna be having more eggs. Oh, I should say, babies? I hope someday we see our baby Eagles. Thank you for the videos. I so enjoy them. God bless our Eagles.
@bettygonzalez6399 The nestoration is for the bonding purposes at the moment. They are likely to start their breeding season in January and the real nestoration in October. Thanks a lot for your nice comment! ❤️❤️🥰😍🦅🦅

@jangloss6837 Yes, I agree. It is amazing to be able to watch them placing the huge sticks. Thank you very much for all your great comments! ❤❤❤😍🥰
Happy to see Jackie and Shadow’s nest getting bigger. Does this mean that they will be using it for their next eggs to hatch? Hope so. 😊 ♥️🦅♥️🦅😁
@jangloss6837 Most probably they will. Thanks a lot for your nice comment! 😍🥰😍🥰❤
I was wondering the same thing
Thank you for sharing
🦅🦅🦅
Gosh! That's a tough one to guess... probably late autumn/early winter will give us more of a clue! Had things gone otherwise, this would be the waning of the nesting season, and eagles bring nesting material to the end. Is the alternative nest a bonding exercise? Only time will tell :) Thanks for showing other wildlife too!
@Luceforall Yes, the alternative nest is most probably a bonding exercise. Thanks a lot for your great comment! 😍🥰
@@BirdlifeOdyssey You are very welcome!

С такой маман от голода сдохнеш
6:34 bro is choking😭
@imaverynormalf1sh No, the chick is not choking. It is the way the chicks eat. No chicks choked. Do not worry.
What’s with all the sticks ?
@bonaree They are bonding during the nestoration. ❤️🥰😍🦅🦅🥢

Why are JS building another nest?
@RebeccaProbst-lw9bx This is their way of bonding. It is called a protonest and they were building it in the past too. They use it to strengthen their ties. It happens that eagles build new nests and move there but according to experts, it won't happen here. They are most likely to stick to their main nest for the next breeding season. Thanks for your comment! ❤️🦅🦅
Boy these 2 know how to build a big sturdy nest
@susanneil3221 Indeed! ❤️🦅🦅😍
なんだこの鳥は?キツツキ?
@user-cl4oi8yw9m It is not a woodpecker. Hoopoe has a long beak but it serves a different function. Hoopoe looks for insects in the ground and needs to have a long beak.
I love hearing all the other birds while Shadow and Jackie are building their two nests . I bet the sound of the other birds chirping as they are feeding their baby birds really does encourage Shadow and Jackie to want to keep building both nests and to keep trying to have more babies of their own .
@MaryMcKinney-zc3bw Thank you very much for your great comment! ❤️❤️😍🥰🦅🦅

Jackie & Shadow are so busy building their new nest 😋 Nice video…love hearing the sounds of the bird whistles in the Big Bear Valley. Awesome video Baiba. Thank you for sharing.
@margaretcruz7003 Thanks a lot for your nice comment! I'm glad that you like this video. ❤️❤️🦅🦅 I'm not Baiba 😁
Jackie and Shadow have been using that dead tree to pretend to build nests as a method of bonding for years now. Yes Eagles do move nests sometimes but it is pretty unlikely that they would actually choose a tree like that. I get it though. When I started watching 5 years ago I was a little concerned too. Then I started hanging out and reading the FOBBV live cam chat and they educated me on soooo many eagle things, including this. Also, Jackie has been working on building out the back porch of the nest for years now. That's why the large awkward Lumber Jackie stick disappears at the bottom of the cam out of view. They both look seriously invested in the regular nest to me.
@roximama Yes, you are right! Thanks a lot for your comment!❤️🦅🦅
Stellar digging a hole ha ha!
I wonder if a stick or two will be brought from original nest to vaca home! Lol😊

@fireball5898 & @edwardizhonig204 Thank you very much for your nice comments! ❤️😍🥰🦅🦅🐿️
If they move can we have the camera moved? These two truly got me through the dreary winter. Miss seeing them everyday. 😢
@fireball5898 I hope so, but it is up to the camera owners Friends of Big Bear Valley. I'm sure they would do it. However, I think there will be no need for that as the most probable scenario is that Jackie and Shadow will continue breeding in their main nest. Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️🥰🦅🦅
This is a big plus. I feel SOMETHING is wrong in that nest itself. No reason they should keep having failed hatches. They are too good as parents. I am happy their instinct is telling them to go for a new home. I pray for them daily to be the parents they are destined to be. Many happy hatches, a beautiful new home, and good luck to two of the very best of the species.
The cold weather is killing them. I don't think being in the new tree that is even more exposed to the snow and rain is not gonna help. The eggs have to be kept at 105 degrees at all times while incubating and there's no way that happened when it was 20 degrees and Jackie had 2 inches of snow covering her on multiple occasions. There's also a nest on Catalina island, only 100 miles from Big Bear, that had all the eggs hatch. They're at sea level and the weather is mild, while Jackie and Shadow are high up in the mountains in what is essentially a skiing town.
@candyr7299 Yes, they deserve to be parents and let's hope the next breeding season will be lucky for them. They use this new nest for bonding purposes and they are not likely to spend the next breeding season there. Thanks a lot for your comment! ❤️🦅🦅😍
Time stamp 6:51 *Why did you edit out the chick swallowing that large beetle?!* *My grandkids wanted to see that!*
The subject of the video was the smallest hoopoe's adventure and the beetle was at the same time but it was not the subject of this video, so I did not focus on this part. I agree that it is a very interesting part and I will make another video with big 'snacks' so that your grandkids could see the whole process of feeding chicks with large insects.
That first insect was twice the size of the oldest one's neck and 4 times larger than it's esophagus - holy moly!
