Im so glad someone finally did this. I kinda had the same idea back in the 90s, even mentioned it to Martin Galway in an email, but was never strong enough with maths to pull it off myself :)

Perfect .. I got a plastic DIP but was wondering how I could crack that thing open. I got 3 chips .. so 3 chances to get at least 1 of them decapped. I've sanded about 4 of them, but it takes about 14 hours per chip if you want a good result for the eye (although not great under a microscope though - sanding either rubs off too many layers from the die, or the die gets uber-scratched).

There is one thing... One small but also very amazing thing...: Do you remember the graphics of Quake 1? That these had no stable form and were shapeshifting all the time, because of no hardware supported it and it was a really early time for its time?... Now take a closer look at today's C64 3D graphics: Clear lines, firm shapes... This machine was never meant to be like this! There is no hardware support! HOW?! How did these manicas achieved such things?! This. Is. Truly. AMAZING!
