    I also have a tarmac sl7 with slammed integrated handlebar. Since I installed 160mm crank it made my bike felt so low and stretched. I get stiffed neck and hand numb.

  • @podiumphysio657
    @podiumphysio65717 күн бұрын

    If you raised your handlebars at the same time as moving to shorter cranks then this is understandable. Unfortunately, as any bike fitter will tell you, having an integrated front end is wonderful if your bike fit is perfect, but terrible if you want to make changes. This is one reason why I have resisted using integrated bars and stems on my bikes.

    What is considered a short crank 160? Whats the ideal length for height or inseam height? Basically is there a calculator for crankarms length?

  • @podiumphysio657
    @podiumphysio65720 күн бұрын

    Hey there. The point of this video and the several I have produced subsequently on the same subject is that the cycling industry builds bikes and provides components that suit the masses, often based on tradition and historical norms. I have presented evidence in this video that cranks as short as 145mm actually can be very effective. I am 193 cm tall and am generally offered 175mm cranks on any bike that I buy/ ride, however I have moved to the shortest possible cranks I can find from SRAM (160mm) and have found these to be much more comfortable and provide performance gains across a number of metrics. I have not used and am not advocating any particular formula for crank length, however I recommend riders consider trying shorter cranks than the ones that come standard, and to not be afraid to go to a length that seems "unusually short". The evidence (and my experience) supports it!

    Super interesting. I have an inseam of around 88.5cm which is quite long, so have run 175mm cranks ever since 2010. But at 6ft4 your inseam would be substantially longer than mine so I probably should try 170mm cranks at least and compare! I do have a bit of trouble in aero position etc.

    I'm also 192cm ride a 59 seat tube and have always used 170mm cranks. My inseam is 'only' around 87/88cm for my height, however 175 always felt too long. I'm going to try 165. There are a few variables to consider with hip and knee comfort, seat tube angle, BB height, head tube angle etc. I personally feel they make bike frames with seat tube angles thar are too relaxed. Being over your BB more reduces hip pain and can allow you to get your knees, feet, back and hips into a better sync than a relaxed seat tube geometry. Let me know what you think, and how the 160 has been, thanks

    @@podiumphysio657it has been a wild ride of a community. It started when some guy named jeffyfansml99 (someone later revealed to be slingmingo, someone who has been widely disliked across the fnf community) decided to bring a bunch of people together and make an fnf mod somewhat based on SMLwiki (a horror thing (interactive horror? i dont know) which is itself based on SML) and other sml creepypastas. One of the first pieces of content related to aethos was someone releasing a snippet as an “unknown churgney song”, which churgney didnt actually make, it was an imitation of his music style (churgney gurgney is an FNF community member probably most well known for making Silly Billy, which popularized the songs with banger lyric sections subgenre). Jeffy’s Endless Aethos was then released with only the first main song, Aethos. Development went smoothly until jeffyfan shared a leak (which someone posted on soundcloud) of the mod. Jeffyfan didnt realize this, but the mobile browser for soundcloud shows the people that shared the song you’re listening to. This caused people to see that jeffyfan shared it as slingmingo, leading to him being “exposed” as sling (the devs actually knew from the beginning) and kicked off of the aethos team. Shortly afterwards, aethos was cancelled and it’s content (excluding shucks which was moved to vs jeffy) was moved to funks logan, which was cancelled due to sling deleting the server. Things slowed for a while (excluding the fanmade stuff people made and sling shitposting on the jeffyfan account) until sling apologized (many people believe it was disingenuous, i personally am not sure). Shortly after this, aethos was revived. It has already been in drama due to someone known as madman halloween (also widely hated across the fnf community) working on the mod (madman is luckily no longer on the aethos team). “what about shucks?” well, ezzythecat (the creator of shucks) held a singing contest for people to sing new shucks lyrics. Someone named redtv won, and his lyrics got in v2. Unfortunately, due to ezzy not wanting to be associated with shucks anymore and the lyrics being leaked.

    Hey Dale. I've never taken much note of my inseam length and have never recorded it for anyone that I've done a bike fit for. The whole point of this video is to show that going to significantly shorter cranks has multiple benefits and no discernible downside. As a six foot four rider I changed from 175 to 160mm cranks, and 6 months into the experiment I've been very pleased with the results. If you are 178 cm tall I'd suggest 175mm cranks are way too long.

I've made 6 videos on the subject of shorter cranks, looking at many different elements - bike fit/ FTP/ sprint power etc. These are all available on my youtube channel. After 6 months I can say I am very happy with shorter cranks and have no intention of going back to 175s (other than to conduct more experiments). All of my regular training and competitions will be on 160s.

    Hey, I 100% recommend you DO NOT DO THIS PROGRAM NOW if you have a race in 2 weeks. You will be absolutely shattered by the end of it. I did my personal bests 3 weeks after the hard training finished (one week after the tapering down). The body needs this time to recover. Also I did not include the 10 minutes of Zone 1 in my addition. On the first hill climb each day it was part of the ramp, but for the other three it took 10 minutes for my heart rate to drop back to Zone 1. So it was more a recovery period than an active period.

    I'm looking for a way to mount my bike that doesn't kill my lower-back (I have issues . . . 🙂). This looks like a great one for me to try tomorrow when I get my bike out. I was looking at getting a 'step-through' bike, but I don't really want to spend the money, so this is definitely worth a try. Thanks for the video. Good to hear an accent from down under (no offence to the Americans). Happy riding.

    Hey there. It takes a bit of practice to get it right, but after you have done this a few times you will never go back to the old way. Cheers!

    Awesome! Yes I will be looking at a wheel upgrade in the not too distant future. Have considered the Rovals but am also looking at other brands that may be a little less expensive. Cheers

    Nice review. Bought my Aethos Comp 62 a month ago direct from the Specialized Australia website and delivered through a local dealer (Perth). Fantastic service from Specialized and even better from the local dealer (Ride Advice in CBD). They did a fitting and swapped out the stem for a shorter 100mm spec. From order to riding in <2 weeks. I went for the white (rather than violet - cough! - clay) and with the Shimano 105 Di2 instead of SRAM. Love the bike - FYI to anyone in Oz It is now on sale $4,999.99 (2023 model sizes 58, 56, 54). Without getting into a rant ... one of the reasons I went for Specialized was stock availability. It turns out they make fantastic bikes too! Ha!

    One of my cycling buddies told me he thought it looked "lavender". I said he would also love how it smelled! Yes I go the bike very quickly also, but then had to wait 2 more weeks for the 160mm cranks I wanted. Definitely a bargain at the price you mention, and I guess in run out before a new model comes out mid year??
