Have these ever turned into a muscle cramp?
I get these muscle fasciculations after cycling and will often get full on muscle cramps at these times also. However I now know how to fix that problem with a simple solution - in this video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5WVo8mOmpC4irA.html

Look out for Stendhal Syndom. Esepecially in Tuscany👍
LOL. I am definitely at risk! From Wikipaedia - Stendhal syndrome, Stendhal's syndrome or Florence syndrome is a psychosomatic condition involving rapid heartbeat, fainting, confusion, and even hallucinations,[1] allegedly occurring when individuals become exposed to objects, artworks, or phenomena of great beauty.
I also have a tarmac sl7 with slammed integrated handlebar. Since I installed 160mm crank it made my bike felt so low and stretched. I get stiffed neck and hand numb.
If you raised your handlebars at the same time as moving to shorter cranks then this is understandable. Unfortunately, as any bike fitter will tell you, having an integrated front end is wonderful if your bike fit is perfect, but terrible if you want to make changes. This is one reason why I have resisted using integrated bars and stems on my bikes.
Does shorter crank affect your bike fit?
Yes it certainly does. I've created a whole series of videos on the subject of shorter crank use. The one on bike fit is here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d5WJ2tWfcraXlJs.html
What is considered a short crank 160? Whats the ideal length for height or inseam height? Basically is there a calculator for crankarms length?
Hey there. The point of this video and the several I have produced subsequently on the same subject is that the cycling industry builds bikes and provides components that suit the masses, often based on tradition and historical norms. I have presented evidence in this video that cranks as short as 145mm actually can be very effective. I am 193 cm tall and am generally offered 175mm cranks on any bike that I buy/ ride, however I have moved to the shortest possible cranks I can find from SRAM (160mm) and have found these to be much more comfortable and provide performance gains across a number of metrics. I have not used and am not advocating any particular formula for crank length, however I recommend riders consider trying shorter cranks than the ones that come standard, and to not be afraid to go to a length that seems "unusually short". The evidence (and my experience) supports it!
Super interesting. I have an inseam of around 88.5cm which is quite long, so have run 175mm cranks ever since 2010. But at 6ft4 your inseam would be substantially longer than mine so I probably should try 170mm cranks at least and compare! I do have a bit of trouble in aero position etc.
This is one case in life when less is more !
I'm also 192cm ride a 59 seat tube and have always used 170mm cranks. My inseam is 'only' around 87/88cm for my height, however 175 always felt too long. I'm going to try 165. There are a few variables to consider with hip and knee comfort, seat tube angle, BB height, head tube angle etc. I personally feel they make bike frames with seat tube angles thar are too relaxed. Being over your BB more reduces hip pain and can allow you to get your knees, feet, back and hips into a better sync than a relaxed seat tube geometry. Let me know what you think, and how the 160 has been, thanks
Hey VW. I’ve been using 160s for 6 months and I’m never going back. Less pain and better performance all round.

search up “jeffy’s endless aethos aethos lyrics” to get a basic understanding of these references (except for the my mind one, that’s from shucks)
I had a quick look. Seems like an interesting cultural reference that I somehow have missed so far😎
@@podiumphysio657it has been a wild ride of a community. It started when some guy named jeffyfansml99 (someone later revealed to be slingmingo, someone who has been widely disliked across the fnf community) decided to bring a bunch of people together and make an fnf mod somewhat based on SMLwiki (a horror thing (interactive horror? i dont know) which is itself based on SML) and other sml creepypastas. One of the first pieces of content related to aethos was someone releasing a snippet as an “unknown churgney song”, which churgney didnt actually make, it was an imitation of his music style (churgney gurgney is an FNF community member probably most well known for making Silly Billy, which popularized the songs with banger lyric sections subgenre). Jeffy’s Endless Aethos was then released with only the first main song, Aethos. Development went smoothly until jeffyfan shared a leak (which someone posted on soundcloud) of the mod. Jeffyfan didnt realize this, but the mobile browser for soundcloud shows the people that shared the song you’re listening to. This caused people to see that jeffyfan shared it as slingmingo, leading to him being “exposed” as sling (the devs actually knew from the beginning) and kicked off of the aethos team. Shortly afterwards, aethos was cancelled and it’s content (excluding shucks which was moved to vs jeffy) was moved to funks logan, which was cancelled due to sling deleting the server. Things slowed for a while (excluding the fanmade stuff people made and sling shitposting on the jeffyfan account) until sling apologized (many people believe it was disingenuous, i personally am not sure). Shortly after this, aethos was revived. It has already been in drama due to someone known as madman halloween (also widely hated across the fnf community) working on the mod (madman is luckily no longer on the aethos team). “what about shucks?” well, ezzythecat (the creator of shucks) held a singing contest for people to sing new shucks lyrics. Someone named redtv won, and his lyrics got in v2. Unfortunately, due to ezzy not wanting to be associated with shucks anymore and the lyrics being leaked.
it has been an absolute WILD ride of a community so far

What are the sizes of the chainrings and cassettes on your bikes?
Hey there. I’m traveling overseas at the moment and don’t have my bikes with me to check, however I know my Emonda has a 52/36 chainring and a 28/ 11 cassette. And I think the Tarmac has a 48/ 35 chainring and 36/ 10 cassette . Hope that helps!
Shorter is definitely better for maximum power. It’s also better for holding a sprint. But, I find longer efforts are better with longer cranks. 20 minute effort on is 347 on 175s and 329 on 170s. Just my experience (with no hip issues). Just a thought - given the difference was large - did you change the crank length on the head unit?
Yes definitely changed the crank length on my app. I’ve done several comparison videos (175 vs 160 cranks) and nearly every metric in notably improved on shorter cranks for me
@@podiumphysio657yup, just watched them. 👍👍
Nice video. I'm 190cm and have been using 180s for ever, just bought some 165mm grx cranks and will be interesting to examine the difference
Also interested in how your bike fit would have changed between the two crank lengths, would you raise your seat slightly and arguably move forward closer in line with bb. Positions of pros ala Pogi have moved seats forward with move to shorter cranks, anyway just whimsing

What is your inseam length? I am on a 58 cm cannondale road bike and 178 cm height 91.5 cm inseam and 175 cm cranks. So trying to figure out what’s best for me. Thanks. Dale.
Hey Dale. I've never taken much note of my inseam length and have never recorded it for anyone that I've done a bike fit for. The whole point of this video is to show that going to significantly shorter cranks has multiple benefits and no discernible downside. As a six foot four rider I changed from 175 to 160mm cranks, and 6 months into the experiment I've been very pleased with the results. If you are 178 cm tall I'd suggest 175mm cranks are way too long.
@@podiumphysio657 My intuition says even though I am not tall for my inseam length of 91.5 it may feel different to get on shorter cranks.Maybe I will have to shorten it to try? Waiting for your experiment?
@@daleschrader1946 Dale - Yes it feels a little different. In my case I can say it definitely feels better. Remember though that my primary reason for changing to shorter cranks was to look after my arthritic hips. Reducing pain was my primary concern and everything else was a bonus. I've made 6 videos on the subject of shorter cranks, looking at many different elements - bike fit/ FTP/ sprint power etc. These are all available on my youtube channel. After 6 months I can say I am very happy with shorter cranks and have no intention of going back to 175s (other than to conduct more experiments). All of my regular training and competitions will be on 160s.
At 5.25 you 27 minutes, but adding the times up it should be 37 minutes. Just saying, I will let you how I get on with this. My next race is in just over 2 weeks time.
Hey, I 100% recommend you DO NOT DO THIS PROGRAM NOW if you have a race in 2 weeks. You will be absolutely shattered by the end of it. I did my personal bests 3 weeks after the hard training finished (one week after the tapering down). The body needs this time to recover. Also I did not include the 10 minutes of Zone 1 in my addition. On the first hill climb each day it was part of the ramp, but for the other three it took 10 minutes for my heart rate to drop back to Zone 1. So it was more a recovery period than an active period.
@podiumphysio657 I've just done the Gran Fondo in the Sierra Nevada ( Spain ) the last 24km was up hill, with over 2000 meters elevation. Thanks for the advice, I will start it when I've done the race👍
@@ToOldToTurnProcycling I think that will serve you much better!
HR target zones rather than power? interesting
Hey Grant. I would assume that Power Zones are ultimately reflections of heart rate and other physiological phenomena anyway. Also, they would have to accommodate riders without power meters. I dont think their budget would extend 10 sets of loan PM Pedals.
for the greenhill road segment, it looks like the segment you showed has bad GPS data. its showing 650m of elevation gain on a 6.5%g road. bit of a sidenote, but was annoying me lol
Yup, and the Corkscrew segment shows zero metres of elevation gain and the profile shows a descent half way through, which I can assure you doesn't exist!
I suffer a lot from foot pain/numbness. I have some Cobra insoles and have wanted to place the metatarsal bottom. However, when I try it, it is extremely uncomfortable underneath my foot. I put it a little behind the ball of the foot. Any advise or ideas?
I think you have 2 options. Either keep exploring with different positioning of the metatarsal dome, or look for a smaller metatarsal dome on line. You may need to get a different brand. They are freely available on sites such as Amazon. Good Luck!
What height are you? 62 frame?
I am 6 foot 4 inches (first thing in the morning) 😆
I'm so confused cause my SRAM hub does not slide that easily onto the axle part.... I'm wondering why it's so hard for my hub to slide on like that
Hmmm. I really didnt have any resistance with that part of the installation...
Enjoying my aethos too. Fave bike since my sL2 tarmac. Agreed 👍🏻
What spec and what colour???
are there stiffness claims from Spec? i heard it was quite flexy, and i didn't expect 80+kg riders on these frames.
I have not seen any specific stiffness claims, only that the "round tube profiles and carbon layup make it particularly stiff". That certainly is my experience. I seem to recall that there was a weight limit but it was 120kg + for bike and rider. I'd have to eat a lot more Zeppoles to hit that figure!
@@podiumphysio657 yeah most frames have a 120-125kg limit. Some ultra light ones are limited to 90kg. You're finding it stiff compared to which other bikes you've ridden?
@@pierrex3226 I'd say it compares very favourably in terms of stiffness against my previous bikes: De Rosa Super King, Merckx 525 and even my current but old model Trek Emonda (2016 year)
Isn't the +10mm stack to sl7 from the rubber headset cover on the sl7 not being a thing here.
Not sure about how the differences were achieved, however I just measured from the ground to the top of the bars on my 2 bikes, both set up so bars are at highest level (without flipping Aethos stem). Tarmac is 66.5cm and Aethos is just under 68cm. Definitely a 10mm plus difference!
