Love your channel This proves once again that Todd, the odd McFarlane is completely wrong on his assessment that female action figures don’t sell this is the second or maybe third female action figure that’s sold out like crazy. The first one is Todd McFarlane’s classic wonder woman figure the second black widow marvel legends came out last year and warbird. I truly wish that Todd McFarlane would walk back his comments of female action figures, and they have been around being sold in the tall boys toy line the 80s from Masters of the universe and G.I. Joe, which coincidentally is Hasbro And I love Hasbro because it’s more easier to get figures made by them even though they sell out than it is to get figures from Todd McFarlane Make minor has, bro. I was lucky enough to get the wonder woman classic figure and I was pleasantly surprised that I was lucky to get the warbird exclusive. I got both of them came out 10 years ago and the one that came out this week. Yay me!!

@@Christian_Ada1 oh my gosh. Thank you for taking the time to listen to this review. It means the world to me. Truly. I’ve heard McFarlane’s comments, it also sadly echos other people in the toy industry in the 90s. It’s wild to me that there was no data to show that light up Psylocke or Phoenix were wildly popular. That the fans that have endured till this day treasure those figures.

The Two Pack Legends Dark Phoenix definitely has the better colours, but the sash bothers me a lot. The Retro Card definitely is too bright, but the new sash is a big improvement, just printing the little emblem next to the knot just not how it should be. The Phoenix emblem on her chest is also a little funky on it too, I don’t like how the wings angle downwards, because that’s definitely not accurate. Two Pack is a better red and gold, but the Retro has a much better sash and a much better emblem. I think outside of lacking the extra heads they’re about equal. I may be in the minority but I replaced my two pack with the Retro in my collection. The bright colours bother me less then the sash and emblem looking wrong.

@10:57 Man is entitled to his opinion but I have to disagree with the comment that historically Gambit has been a character of "style over substance". Well in his 30 some year history, Gambit: - Put a cap his powers being an omega level mutant. - He was involved in the Morlock massacre and carried huge shame/guilt over that. - He fell in love with a woman he cannot touch that has either left him to die in Antarctica OR brought him back from the brink of death. - Met himself from another reality who was basically a god. - I think became the leader of the Thieves guild at some point. - Proposed and married the love of his life. - Has one of my favorite romantic quotes in any piece of fiction ever: "I'm your home and your harbor. Your end point. Not a station along the way. Not a gamble. Or an experiment. You'll come to me when you know that, but don't come to me before". - X-Men Legacy 248 I do not think Gambit embodies style over substance, but I do believe he is female gaze coded. Always has been and that is why it was INCREDIBLY cathartic for me, to see grown ass men crying over him on the internet, giving him the respect he always deserved. All that work from the writers that made him into a character so popular with the girls actually made him a good character and a hero for everybody! I will say though that the most style over substance thing about his history is when he became Death because it made no goddamn sense. Which is something I hope they can fix in the show.

I never would have guessed that Dark Phoenix is actually represented more than classic Phoenix, but I suppose between repaints and dedicated versions of the character it does make sense. That X3 version is BRUTAL, more like they were going for a Kathy Griffin likeness instead of Famke Janssen and massively whiffed all around. And while Celine Dion from the Juggernaut wave was an upgrade, it's still not a very faithful look. That brings us to Nicole, which yeah now I can see, but wouldn't have landed on her without it being pointed out. To me, that's just the pitch-perfect Cockrum Phoenix face and hair. And wouldn't you know, a brand new deluxe figure just announced! The Black Widow body promises to be a huge improvement, but I'm still not wild about either of the two heads sculpts. Crazy to think that hasn't been improved since the Toy Biz days. I'm not mad about it, but at the same time... feels like we're not ever getting Rachel at this point. 😕 Love the 5-inch Phoenix story. I think I first encountered that figure/wave, alongside the X-Force assortment with Exodus(!), in a Hills department store circa fall of 1994. I was FREAKING OUT. It always made for a nice surprise when parents "indulged" us every now and then. It was such a big deal at the time, but any time I bring up a memory like that now, both my parents are like, "Oh we only acted like it was some huge treat. Those things were cheap as shit and we were just grateful you weren't begging for something actually expensive." 😂

Why wouldn't wolverine be in the white hot room? Out of anyone that would remain, from the xmen (which the phoenix clearly admires at least) wolverine would be the literal last one. He would be, always, Charles predecessor. Forever, until he died from old age. They were all, in their own way, strong enough to carry (an ember) of the Phoenix Force. Her children. Emma never did anything evil?? How quick Scott is to forget: she sent Firestar's horse to the glue factory! #JusticeforButterRum lol Anyway, this whole run is disproportionately influential for me as well given how young I was and excited to read the books in real time. In fact, Scott Lobdell (along with Fabian Nicieza) may have been the first writer's name to become ingrained in my head, simply through sheer repetition. It was part of my slow realization that these funnybooks were created by living, breathing human beings - and thus why I had preferences for some over others. Lobdell in particular had a great knack for those "downtime between big events" issues. Nobody could write a quiet, character-focused drama that tugged at the heartstrings quite like him. I never considered it at the time, but from this interview I gather he had a great eye for new artists as well. With Joe Mad, Chris Bachalo, Gene Ha, and Carlos Pacheco all getting shout-outs... that's a crazy diverse murderers' row of incredible talent. No one else from that era came close to matching such a cool complement of illustrators. Even Nicieza, despite his lengthy run, was pretty much limited to Greg Capullo, Tony Daniel, and Andy Kubert - all great artists, and there's a lot to be said for consistency, but they weren't the game-changers of their day. Speaking of Nicieza, interesting to hear he "coordinated" the major crossovers that he was present for. I guess it makes sense, given his... penchant for details, and the fact that he'd been around since the Muir Island Saga days. He fully took over the writing duties on X-Force and X-Men just in time for the Image exodus, and again was tasked with cobbling the scraps of a major crossover together into something relatively coherent in X-Cutioner's Song (of which he wrote half). I get why the office would've leaned on him in this capacity. Taking a vastly different structural approach with AoA obviously paid off, but Nicieza's absence was felt for events like Onslaught (which I still love), and O:ZT (trash). But man... I think I'd walk back A LOT of my misgivings towards the latter had we gotten the Magneto Kills Everyone ending described. We were robbed! Finally, all the love heaped on Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix. Swoon... such a gorgeous, breathtaking saga. It's a fucking masterpiece that does not get talked about enough, and I so appreciate you guys for highlighting that. 🥰

I've been searching ALL OVER 4 an interview where A.J. does Gambit's voice LIVE 🎙🙆🏾‍♂️! It's crazy how a voice actor character's voice can be so different from their real voice 🤯! Ironically, I've seen interviews featuring Lenore (Rogue), Allison Sealy-Smith (Storm), George Buza (Beast), Chris Potter (Original Gambit/ Cable), Catherine Disher (Original Jean Grey/ Val Cooper), Cal Dodd (Wolverine) the guy who does Mr. Sinister's voice, & Matthew Watterson (The New Magneto), but I've YET to find any interviews featuring Jennifer Hale (The New Jean Grey), or Ray Chase (The New Cyclops). I have to give Ray & Jennifer props cuz in the original series or in the comics I never really cared for either character cuz Cyclops was such the cookie cutter predictable "boy scout" & Jean was weak as hell, always fainting 🙄! But their emotion-fueled delivery really made me take an interest & care for their characters this time around. But in the words of Paula Abdul: "Rogue is 4EVA my 'Girl' 🫶🏾!" I've related to her from the 1st time I saw her on the original X-men The Animated Series! Lenore has given more life to Rogue with her voice alone & touched me more than most other live-action actresses!
