I hope you get to go back to my hometown!! There's more to do and eat! Haha (a foodie here!) had you kept going the same main road, you could have made it to Encarnación, and even from Zimapán towards the mountains, there's a place call Xajhá, like Tolantongo but less accessible and because of it,less touched by humans! Hope you go back!
I love DR because of the people. There are rotten apples in the bag as well, just like any other country, but in general people are super friendly. I spent part of my childhood there, and I remember how they teach kids to receive tourists with open arms and a smile.
