The Soane Museum is the extraordinary house of Sir John Soane, one of the greatest English architects, who built and lived in it more than a century and a half ago.
The Museum has been kept as it was at the time of his death nearly 180 years ago. It displays his collection of antiquities, furniture, sculptures, architectural models, paintings - including work by Hogarth, Turner and Canaletto - and over 30,000 architectural drawings. It’s a vast, extraordinary collection, full of curiosities and surprises.

I cannot imagine how furious Sir Soane is.
👍👍
Great achievement..
fortunate that the crafting skills continue to be practiced
exhibits a surgeon's skill
Send it back to Egypt
Yes, design for real people by real people
Beautiful museum, I cannot wait to see it in November
It is always comforting to know and understand that in so many museums, that admiration shall always take the best rooms as their own and totally disregard the wishes of the donor.
As an installation artist myself, I wish I could have rummaged in her studio!
🤩🤩🤙

Pretentious much?
It just floors me that people would simply ignore the stipulations made when the museum was gifted ... James Wilde must've had a god complex to have just come in and started tearing things out
19 dynasty Seti 🌹
I must go to this museum. It is in the middle of London? Address please?
13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, WC2A 3BP.
@@SoaneMuseum thanks so much
What was up with Wilde? It’s bizarre. I would love to hear what his reasoning was.
How amazing! I admire these professionals and even envy them their tasks. Their knowledge and dedication is admirable.
I am watching these videos with interest. Such a wonderful project and I so admire the attention to detail. Fascinating to watch the skills required to restore the building. It is a crime though that Mr. Soane’s wishes were not adhered to. Compulsive viewing.
How many living people could we house or feed or educate with the cost of this?
Characterizing James Wilde’s alterations as “ill-advised” is a masterly understatement.
This series has been a joy to watch, and it's so fabulous to see the acknowledgement of the collaborative efforts of varied artisans carrying on traditional work, and how it really takes a village to get the best results. The Soane is now on my bucket list for when I visit England!
What nonsense, vases representing, Hogarths Rakes progress. Oooh lets say we see it or we look dumb. doh!
Amazing! All this work only because so many people before didn't understand something as simple as not changing anything.
Extraordinarily wonderful. As an Art Historian my favourite museum for over 30 years. Thank you so much for this magical tale.
Invoking the concept, the belief in, magic ✴️
Looking forward to my trip to the UK in 2025, and The Soane Museum is on my museum bucket list. Have read about it for many years, and been fascinated by the history of the man and his Museum/Home.
One can hope that any antiquities of questionable provenance will be repatriated.
Who the heck defied his wishes in the first place?
Ill exposed it dont belong to this trap
Coming in December 2023. Very excited.
This is extraordinary. If I ever make it to England, this is a no-brainer.... just like the guy who rearranged all this stuff that you had to restore...
Would loved to have met this man.I love brilliant minded men. This museum is stunning
Be nice to see you put half of this effort into feeding the homeless and housing them. But that would be silly.
The making of the wallpaper was fascinating! Gorgeous outcome! The entire work that was done is absolutely beautiful!
Incredibly fantastic ❤
Respect for the past has been chosen wisely
That former curator basically vandalized the museum.
The intro had me thinking…wow, CGI I actually like! Beyond that, kudos to all the modern day restorers.👏👏👏
All stolen items...burn it down now!
Stolen from "all over the world"!
the only thing i think they should've done was to return Seti the 1st sarcophagus to Egypt where it belongs, far too many Egyptian artifact's where stolen from them and should be returned.
I have literally no respect for people who remodel/update/modernize old spaces, especially houses. The only exceptions are if absolutely necessary, like fire prevention, updating dangerous materials, general upkeep, those kind of things. I have the highest admiration for people who can do those things and make them either disappear or look original. That’s a true art.
Who cut the model of Pompeii in half? Outrageous.
I have to say : Classic !!!
03:08 my best point
Classic !
Love the Soane. Thanks to the team keeping it up and those restauring
It would be interesting to know, are this paintings originals or copies? some of them are sitting on the wall with light from outside, do not they get damaged from the light? I really like this videos well dun.
As an old sign painter,I know how hard gold leaf is to do.
Amazing craftsmanship.
