Britten Pears Arts

Britten Pears Arts

A charity formed by the unification of Snape Maltings and the Britten-Pears Foundation in April 2020.

Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music, arts and heritage charity based on the Suffolk coast at The Red House and Snape Maltings. We emerged from the creative partnership of Benjamin Britten, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, and his professional and personal partner, singer Peter Pears.

Britten and Pears shared a progressive vision for music and the arts to be useful, helping people enhance and bring joy into their lives. Our founders’ vision inspires all our activity, from work with our local communities to our national leadership roles in the fields of talent development and music, health and wellbeing.

This song has to be so much more funnier. Candid is a satire. Cunegonda is making fun of herself, sure I’m having such an awful time in Paris drinking champagne, surrounded by jewelry. Oh my golden cage how awful, ain’t it? 😂she’s got the notes now if she understands the character she’ll be golden. On top of that this has to be sung in American English so all the Rs are there all the A sounds need to be there. All the aw sounds need to be plain ah sounds, Americans don’t say oh faul they ah fall for words like awful and of has to be ov not off ah for ee in words like the if the following word starts with consonant etc. The sounds are very different and quite challenging for most not natives but with the proper coach she’ll get there. France rhymes with friends not with fence etc

Is it really the first aria of Figaro? I'd have figured that would be Non Piu Andrai

Seems to have the right kind of voice for the part, but the technique is still not there. She can't sing a single proper trill, which this last scene is riddled with, and her legato and flexibility also need more work. With some more work, she could be really great!!

She’s impressive. Her vibrato pulses in the wrong direction as she ascends, and her vowels are not as pure and forward as they could be, so I think that she would want to fix those things first. But there’s a lot of talent here, and she’s doing a lot of good stuff already.

Hermoso timbre tremolo firme, color aterciopelado , hermosa figura, aria para tenor ligero, a mezza voce. Luigi Alva lo canto perfecto de antología.

You sure do have a great voice. My tip would be to not pay so much attention to the teacher. You know what to do. Listen to the 1971 Tokyo recording of this by Franco Corelli. His phrasing and timing, also pronunciation, is unmatched. You could easily be just as good. Congratulations!

Throat tension very obvious. Movement in voice is a tremolo. Base of tongue and larynx shake in unison. Needs a lot of work.

This is most helpful thank you! It would be great to see more going on in her eyes with the character but I know these kinds of masterclasses there is so much to think about and assimilate.

I love this singer's voice and technique. She has a very heavy accent and is very expressive and artistic but not yet a polished controlled performer. This brilliant teacher is very detailed and they could have worked hours on the nuances needed here. She's got to pick and choose what she can accomplish with her in a relatively short segment to leave time for the other students.
