the video is great, although I am struggling with the basics. Pretty much when you say to take the notepad and write down all that is wrong... I don't even know with some of them what exactly is wrong besides it clearly is off. So great to see where things can be improved but probably I need to look for some basics on what this editing actually does.
Please write your questions that you have when editing here. If you do it now, I'll make a video on it tomorrow and will upload it on Sunday. Let me know what you need help with and I will address it!

@@RicoResolves Definitely will! Thanks!
You don't understand the module or did not find a way to use it, and so it is useless???? That's a bit short thinking. I don't understand you, are you useless? Certainly not, so maybe your title is just to make some buzz !!!
So, since you apparently know how to use this module and why it is useful: I invite you to give us a thorough explanation so we can all learn from it. Thanks 👍
after extending both ends still not working
Lifesaver! Overnight Resolve decided to make all my clips in the timeline go to offline, but I could see them all in the Media bin. Legend, great video and straight to the point.

@@RicoResolves Done the second your video helped me out, mate. I thought hours of work last night was gone until I found your video. 😂
Awesome man, I appreciate the support!
OBVIOUSLY this doesn't work. Sick.

Nice edit Rico...one suggestion would be for using that channel mixer for WB... A better strategy can be to add blue in the green and red input of the blue channel rather than blue. Those leaves red and green alone and brings blue in balance... moving the primary sliders still works but alters more of the image unnecessarily...
So that means you should add in different colors. So red and green in the blue channel. Blue and green in the red channel etc? I had someone tell me before I was "stupid" when doing that. I forgot which video, but there is one in which I altered red or green in the blue channel. Can you point me to the manual where this is better explained?
@@RicoResolves So think of it this way. THe first set of sliders only change the red value of a pixel... They will do this proportional to the value of the input channel. So in a blue sky if you add red in the blue input channel it will add a lot of red everywhere there is a lot of blue and less so where there is less blue..same logic for the red and green input... so adding red based on the green channel will impact say the leaves and the grass stongly and not impact the sky... THe next set of sliders will affect only the green value of a pixel and will increase it proportional to the value of the input channel you select... so again moving the red slider there will only add green mostly to where it is red and so not impact a pure blue sky..... so basically if your pixel is 200 200 0 then moving any slider based on input blue... there is one of those per group of sliders will not change the pixel at all as the input blue is zero... In the case of this pixel moving either the green input or the red input slider in the blue group will give the same result....as both add blue based on the value of their respective input. So in this case if you bump either green or red by say 0.1 it will add 20 to the blue of the pixel...so the pixel becomes 200 200 20....So the first group of sliders only add to the red pixel value of the rgb. The second only add green and the third only add blue... and they do so proportional to the slider value times the input channel value ie the color of the slider...
Great video. I'm new to darktable so it's great to see how to do basic edits like this!
Good to hear Ross, thanks!
Definitely needed this. Thank you!
Good to hear!
I don't find it useless. It has an obvious potential, e.g. when a sky or an edge needs a small extension. It can make all the difference in balance and ratio. And nothing crashes in my system. I am looking forward to the release of a proper description about what the creator imagined with this module. And this is what sucks, only an empty container is offered in the manual, still a month after the release of 4.8.0. This harms the public confidence to the organization behind an otherwise impressive product.
They should implement AI like content aware fill if they want a feature like that. This makes no sense to me.
@@RicoResolves I doubt AI has a chance with Darktable, and in a way it feels good. I use AI up front with DxO PureRAW 4 for noisy images only, as the denoising in Darktable isn't better than with other traditional algorithms. 98 percent of my raw-files can be finished in Darktable without ever meeting AI (either in PureRAW or Affinity Photo). It's a lovely low cost environment ;O)
The main use I've found for it is to add working room on the side of the frame for when you're retouching things there. You add space, do your retouch, then turn the module off.
Interesting
Davinci needs to add a right click on clip feature for this. It's used so often and you have to menu dive for it.
Like a shortcut? Cause basically it's right mouse button > change clip speed > reverse
Right click>"Reverse Clip" - Choosing speed has nothing to do with reversing a clip. It's so NOT logical.
I cant open it with windows 11. Dont let me install.
You can't download the new one?
i agree with you that it has some bugs here and there but, let's not forget that the Darktable team is making great effort in a giant program for free , so a crash or a feature that needs some enhancement is not a big disappointment and i am sure they will fix it in a later version. have a nice day and thanks for the well-made tutorials you are making
They should focus on the implementation of AI. That will put Darktable back on the map.
...we are (gradually and inexorably) approaching a desperate need for DARKTa.i.BLE... (6.0? Merry Christmas 2025!!!)
Never have found a use for this
Exactly!
I always wotk in Adobe RGB. Are these LUTs compatible?
Yes they are
still not solved
Check the video in the pinned comment. It's probably your codec
Big Thanks

Why would you want to create another timeline instead of working with Timeline 1?
Having multiple timelines can serve different purposes.
Thank you for showcasing the color equalizer module! A video on masking? Yes, please!
I've uploaded one last Sunday!
@@RicoResolves Thank you!
I think the dog at 4:50 probably understood more than I did, but thanks for the video, I'm sure it will be helpful to many people 👍
Anything I can clear up in a new video for you? I'll be glad to dedicate one to troubleshooting or extra help!
Thank you for the excellent guide. I have learned multiple new tips with this...... 👍👍👍
You're welcome!
I can’t thank you enough my friend. I have a button on my mouse that is an UNDO. But it glitched and deleted my whole timeline. Then the project crashed. Thought I lost everything for a moment there
I'm always amazed by and grateful for these comments. Simply because this video nearly wasn't posted!
I think this video may be quite out of date, all of the important buttons in the video are no longer available
What do you mean exactly?
Short, and to the point. Thank you!!!
Glad you like it!
Always enjoy your work - Thank you.
Thanks Mick, it's good to receive and read comments like these. I appreciate you
Haha, love that "the first window" of 4.8 does not look like at all, and there is no settings anywhere "up here" ! ;-D
Guess I'll have to make a new one 😉
It's quite funny how all the Lightroom videos you see these days are all "Unlock the power of MASKS!" like they're new while us Darktable folks are like "uh, yeah..." 😂
Lightroom users be like: "Let's slide the clarity slider all the way to the right"
Thanks for the video. Just getting back to Darktable, because they FINALLY added support for my recent cameras. Masks video would be awesome.
I'll release a masking video later today!!
So happy to find your channel and thanks so much for the tutorials, really helpfull.. But I'm having a problem, I can't find my dng files at all. 😅 I'm currently on v 4.8
Add the destination first and you'll be able to
@@RicoResolves Thanks for replying, I really do appreciate it. I'll work on it again later, bcause I still can't figure it out. 😂
No problem, thank you for commenting. Let me know if it works out. If not, I'll see if I can help you further.
Alright I've got it! Now Imna need to continue to watch your tutorial and figure out how to use this software.
@MahmudHidayatullah257 awesome, what was the solution?
oh great..... in FUSION you can move, change the size of the mask
2:36 yes it is.
but it is not complete yet.
Thanks for this video... I use color zones extensively, now will check the color equalizer. Please do a masking video.
Thank you for commenting!

Glad you like it!
The one issue that has kept from fully switching to Darktable is masking, could you please make a video about masking.
@@musasoyyo will do!
Color Zones on steroids. Can never have enough videos on masking. 🙂
Guess I should do more!
Masking is always tricky for me as a beginner in Darktable, so please provide a video when you find time.
Apparently it's a hot topic 😁👍
Yes please 😃
I did, my newest video is about masking!
@@RicoResolves Thank you 🤩
Great video. Please create a dedicated video on masking
@@jhmnieuwenhuis Prima! Dat kan geregeld worden. Kijk ook even in mijn darktable playlist, aangezien ik hier ook al eens video's over gemaakt heb :)!
I used this prior to today and it worked but I tried to use it now and it has backup on but when I left clicked the timeline, it doesn't show the restore option.
Try following the steps again. Also be sure to check out my new DaVinci Resolve channel: www.youtube.com/@PurelyResolve
thanks for the quick tip. I cant see a way to edit keyframes on effects that i have keyframed. Is there some hidden menu for that ?
Yes, open up the spline menu for that. You'll be able to see them. Please check out my new DaVinci Resolve channel as well: www.youtube.com/@PurelyResolve
@@RicoResolves Thanks it but it doesn't show up. Try adding a Noise distortion effect from the effects menu and set a key on the scale channel. It wont show up in the curve editor. I guess I'll have to edit the keys in fusion 😕
Great stuff to know! But it's ridiculous that it's so easy to lose a timeline in Davinci and that folks would need to do this to get it back.
I have to be honest, I've never lost a timeline before! Be sure to check out my new DaVinci Resolve channel as well: www.youtube.com/@PurelyResolve
@@RicoResolves I never lost one either, but I did need to go get one of those duplicates more than once. Sometimes when you're doing an edit way over on the right, you don't realize you just deleted something way over on the left. 😆
WHY DID IT DO THIS!!!!

The presets for the color balance RGB module are pretty handy too, they come in a couple of degrees of colorfulness
