    You're welcome, glad you got use of this video. I also have another video of a 1986 EA82 going though the same process, a little more in depth and has more of the part numbers and torque settings. The EA82T is a little different, it is Multiport instead of Single Port Fuel Injection. Also there are a few more ports/attachments connected to the engine. The process for that engine will be very similar besides those small differences

  • @creativelivingnorthwest
    @creativelivingnorthwest28 күн бұрын

    Gracias. You said: "Excellent job. Two questions. How do you synchronize it without the mark on the timing cover cover? And does that engine bend valves when the timing belt breaks?" To synchronize the timing without the timing belt covers, you line up the small dots on the camshaft pulleys with the inner edge of the valve covers. They just happen to be in the same place that the marks would be on the timing covers. You can see this in this video here as well as my other video with the Red 1986 GL Wagon. Basically just having the flywheel pointed in the middle of the three hashmarks -III- and having one camshaft dot pointing straight up, and one camshaft dot pointing straight down. This engine (EA82) will not bend valves when the timing belt breaks unless it breaks while in very high RPM. This is because the engine is a "non-interference" engine.

    Very Cool. We also had to build a dog system for different sizes of wood. The smallest stuff, like in this video, was the most tricky to dog. Would appreciate any info you could give! The original "dogs" that came with this thing are shown in the first video of the mill we did, they were just small stepped dogs that slid in the channels the wood would rest on

  • @CS-eb9wh
    @CS-eb9whАй бұрын

    @@creativelivingnorthwest OK, I saw the first vid. So....the square tubes welded on the side are not original and neither is the found pipe clamping system. The style I have simply slides along the slots of the cross members and are made out of trailer hitch clamps.... Low profile. Also the actual dogs are simply 1/4 by 2 inch flat bar in different lengths depending on your depth of cut. Super easy. They fit into the little slot left in the cross member track between the welds. You'll notice that there is a small bar below the slot that keeps the dog from going all the way to the ground... When I get time I can send some pictures. I made all my own parts after talking to the guy a number of years ago.

  • @creativelivingnorthwest
    @creativelivingnorthwest3 күн бұрын

    Sorry for the late reply. We ended up finding some of the 1/4 by 2 fixed side posts. They were in a pile of material that came with the mill that we thought was extra scrap. My dad used them to mill some lumber, we will post that video eventually. The square tube that my dad welded on has a smaller square tube inside of it that slides up and down, so that it is adjustable, and tightens down with a set screw. When fully down it is flush with the rail that the lumber lays on, so it is mostly out of the way if we were to use the original fixed side posts. There will be some footage of these adjustable side posts that my dad made in the next video we post.

    @@javierencuadra so that was on the Red 1986 GL Wagon, in the other head gasket video. This White 1991 Loyale still has the fuel injection. Why I switched carburetors in the other car was because I was dealing with an issue with the car intermittently not running correctly. I thought it was carburetor related however it turned out to be distributor related! So the carburetor was switched without it really needing to be. However I still have the original Hitachi sitting on the original intake manifold ready to swap back on at any time if needed. Be careful, if it seems too cheap on Amazon it is probably a fake Weber carb. It should be about $300 for the real Weber carb through Redline. There are writeups online about the swap, however one of the main mods is to JB Weld the coolant passage that would touch the bottom of the Hitachi carb. This is why I used a spare manifold to do the swap and not my original.

The same setup is in my red 1986, which is in another head gasket video on this channel. If you don't have access to the special brackets, I have seen people use all-thread and nuts to create a spacer-holder that takes the place of the AC and leaves the alternator in its stock location, you would just have to get a different length belt.

(kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2ujl5ezgtG8d6w.html ) I am retired now so I started in on this project again. This project was/is for an airboat, as you can see in the above video. Brought a radiator, not OEM, but I forgot how the radiator hoses was connected to the engine. My radiator is installed On the back side (behind) the engine where the Airboat prop is used for a fan. I search the internet for how this is done. From my searching, *All radiators are hooked up TOP outlet going to thermostat, Bottom outlet is hooked to water pump.* What my engine was doing was backward from just that. So I did an experiment. My Experiment: Removed thermostat, (so no restrictions) installed hose outlet back on as normal. Installed small piece (length) of hose on it and the big line coming from water pump. None of these hose are connected to radiator. With a water garden hose, pumped water into where the thermostat sits, NO water was/would pumped out through the water pump. Then, I put the water hose into the water pump line and it immediately stated pumping water out though the thermostat. This result is BACKWARDs from my understanding!! *Can someone explain this?* Am I right<<<< wrong?\ According to Subaru, water *FLOWS* from the BOTTOM radiator outlet, TO the water pump, thru the engine, OUT the thermostat, then BACK to the TOP of the radiator.?

  • @creativelivingnorthwest

    That is correct. The coolant comes from the radiator, flows to the lower hose and into the pump, through the engine, out the thermostat, and into the upper hose, back into the radiator.

    hand filing doesn't make a chainsaw cut crooked, not knowing how to "hand file" a chainsaw chain is the issue, I've been hand filing my chains for 35 years and my saws cut straight

  • @creativelivingnorthwest

    The bar was the issue. It was very worn in the groove that the chain runs through, plus the bar was bent to one side like it was hung up in a tree or two. We tuned the bar and now it cuts straight. I thought we recorded us tuning the bar however that footage may have been lost.

    Love the 2nd generation Subarus with the EA81. True, the wagons, sedans, and coupes stopped in 1984. However the Brat kept going until 1987, and the Hatch kept going until 1989!

    @@creativelivingnorthwest my favorite was the 1978 old spaceship subi- but the 80-84 was so easy to work on, plus it was not a popular car! They could be bought cheap and easy... 85 began timing belts and the downward spiral of the last true passenger tank a poor person could buy for $1,000 and under in running condition. I never had a Brat, I'd love a GL wagon with a manual- last year a friend of mine found one in Reno with 65k miles, so they are still out there!

    Una pregunta, como puedo calibrar valvulas? no vi en ninguna parte que lo hicieras

  • @creativelivingnorthwest
    @creativelivingnorthwest8 ай бұрын

    You said: "One question, how can I calibrate valves? I didn't see anywhere that you did it." To service the valves you would need to have a valve compressor tool while the heads are removed from the block. It would be a similar process to any other engine as far as lapping and or replacing the valves. The EA82 engine does not require valve clearance adjustment because they are hydraulic. The EA81 and EA71 engine would require the lifter arms to be gapped to specification for each valve according to the needed gapping for the exhaust and intake valves.

    I have the coats 4040 I must say to you congratulations you were the first person on KZread that I have seen use the tool to tighten down the center cone I don't think you're compressor is big enough it seems like the machine is not getting enough air you have the bottom bead breaker but you don't have enough air to make it work they need to run between 120 and 150 psi when you remove a tie you put the bar at the five o'clock position that way you get a full rotation and you do the same when you're putting it back on and lastly I hope this helps when you were using the tyre valve puller screw it onto the valve it swivels for a reason once you have it tightened up swivel it around put it on the rim and push down ever so slightly and it will pull the valve up you're doing it the wrong way you're making live too hard for yourself

  • @creativelivingnorthwest
    @creativelivingnorthwest9 ай бұрын

    Glad you liked the video. The EA81 is a little different, but the father of the EA82. The EA81 uses push rods driven from a single center camshaft to time the valvetrain. Unlike the EA82, which uses timing belts to drive the two overhead camshafts.

    You are correct. So hopefully it will be a bit simpler to change the head gasket. Even tho all the research I've been doing on the forums. Many say my issue is more like an intake gasket and not the head gasket. Rare to an EA81T with head gasket issues. I'll just refresh the whole engine.

    @@oczuk32 We have experience intake manifold gasket issues in the past in one of our EA82 engines. Seemed like the engine was running on 3 cylinders or had a big vacuum leak. Sprayed carb cleaner around to try and find the leak while the engine was running... ended up spraying around the intake manifold gasket on one side and found that gasket to be damaged and sucking in air. Replaced the intake manifold gaskets and she was up and running like new
