  I believe The fish at 9:50 is an Olive Rockfish. Looks similar, but kelp bass are pretty rare this far north.

  How do you avoid entangling float in the kelp?

  @@jimmyz1k good question. I usually tie it to a piece of kelp and I don't use a floater line. Kelp forest fishing can be tricky and you can get tangled a lot while using a floater line

  Hey man , I'm planning on picking this hobby up w a friend at Catalina specifically. I enjoy the ocean but my biggest fear is encountering a great white. Am I over thinking this or ???

  That's awesome! So I've been diving for about 7 years now, mostly in Monterey (where there are a ton of great whites) and I have never seen one. I know some people who have and nothing bad happened at all. Definitely do some research on how to behave if you do encounter one though, I would recommend looking up a scientist in Hawaii named Ocean Ramsey. Always make sure to stick with your buddy or group and you should be fine, great whites don't really care much about us, and if we're in a group they try to avoid us even more. Good luck!

  It was a lot of things haha it was my first time shooting that gun with 2 bands and I was trying to shoot these fish like I do with NorCal fish. In NorCal you can get super close and shoot em, here you gotta shoot from a distance, socal fish are fished more so they're way smarter. I think the gun is ok but it's never really been that good of a gun to begin with, I need to get a bigger and better one for socal missions 🔱🤿👌🏻

  Can’t wait for 2024. I had stopped spearfishing Monterey to Mendocino since covid. After a couple pounds and finally settled in the condo I bought couple years ago I’m ready to jump back in. Just took inventory and bought some updated stuff today so itching to get out again. My hobie kayak is ready to go too. Once this storm passes I’ll probly be headed to carmel.
