For all the uninformed people suggesting a train... Las Vegas already has a monorail system that goes from the Convention Center to the strip and all the way to the MGM at the other end. When an extra million people arrive for a convention all the infrastructure, including the monorail get overwhelmed. Taxi lines can be 45 minutes. I was just there for CES and it was a madhouse. These underground tunnels are an additional option, privately funded by the casinos, that supplements the "train" and street traffic. It's a cool experiment and I like that it's mostly privately funded. Why be so negative? Experimentation is good.

They already have a monorail system. During conventions, capacity gets maxed out. I was just there during CES and we would wait >30 minutes for the monorail (which goes from the Convention Center all the way to the MGM). The Taxi line at the casinos was often 45 minutes long. They need more infrastructure to handle the flood of people that come to town during conventions. The roads are packed. Traffic is terrible. The Super Bowl a few weeks after CES was also a madhouse. Business is booming in LV and this "experiment" adds an option. It's a test...and so far it's awesome so they are building more tunnels to more casinos and the airport...and it's being paid for by the casinos. Experimentation is a good thing. I suspect your "feelings" about Musk are preventing you from being objective.

Las Vegas already has a train. I was there recently during CES and it has way too crowded to get on the monorail. And lines for a Taxi were 45 minutes. These tunnels, funded by the casinos (not government) give LV additional capacity. It's awesome and mostly privately funded.

Mexican here. I'm not a fan of the current government but I do like this project, it actually has potential. One important thing to note is that the project is not just about the train, along the tracks they are building industrial parks. So it's not just about transporting merchandise from one ocean to the other, the idea is that companies can setup their production facilities along the way and have a way to export or import stuff from anywhere in the world (because of the 2 ocean access).

I forget which coast, but one is relatively the same elevation wise and it could connect to the US via train root to the Texas Mexican Railway International Bridge.
