am I the only one who's seeing five valves in a row, the fifth just out of shot?!
@dwerden13 сағат бұрын
The 5th valve is for the small bell of a double-bell euphonium. It's the only non-compensating horn I have to demonstrate, but the 1st 4 valves work "normally".

One of the things that Basie did soooooo damn well was mood and tempo. This performance, while good, fails in the Basie mood and tempo department.

I would not disagree. Basie was from the true jazz realm (including his audiences), while most of Doc's life was in the commercial realm (including his audiences).

Have mine (E1) usually fully in. The more tired I get or the longer I have to march the further I screw it out. For me screwing it out makes the horn play with less energy and makes it easier to play staccato/fast notes. Fully in it gives me a freedom to play the tone how I want to that I do not know from other horns, but it does take considerably more air and reduces the resistance slightly for me.

The receiver gap effects slotting brass instruments. I know of a small boutique trumpet maker and a well known mouthpiece maker that have built this into their products. It is good to see a major player like Adams making the technology available to euphonium players.

Yes! I often use combinations instead of open fingerings when I want french horn-like "cuivre". (Or a touch more resistance for super-soft entrances in the high register, I won't lie... if it sounds good it's not cheating)
