  Have to love the French commentary. And how incredible is it that the F1 GTR is such a monumental feat of design, engineering, and sporting, that it has almost entirely clouded the F40 LM from the popular imagination? Monolithic car if there ever was one.

  I never get tired of watching the camera angles from Mulsanne corner into Indianapolis into Arnage - head-on cam into sweeping crane cam. Just as beautiful as the cars themselves and from any era (especially the McLaren F1) 22:20

  The v12 BMW bellow of the McLaren F1 GTR in my opinion is one of the best engine noises to come from a race car.

  That BMW V12 Engine also would later go on to power the 1999 Le Mans winning BMW V12 LMR which ironically enough was built and in part run by the Williams Grand Prix team so that means that the BMW V12 powered both Mclaren and Williams built cars to overall win at Le Mans.

  @@adammercer6004 absolutely and I'm a big fan of the V12 LMR as well. I think McLaren also assisted BMW with the development of their 1996 Super Touring 320i as well but I could be wrong

  @@mattsmotorsportmemories5743 I did not know about Mclaren's involvement in the BMW super touring programme but it makes sense as Williams were running the Renault's own super touring programme so I guess BMW's thinking was fight fire with fire I suppose.

  Right then on how many occasions were ether Riley w Ford or Elan power, or Panoz,, and-or James Weaver IE pro but non-factory driver the best of the rest? Where the best were billion-dollar car-making factory teams? Weaver was top prototype privateer in that Porsche-powered WSC - he would count as an Audi, Bentley and McLaren factory driver, by times

  Even with the McLaren’s being outdated, you could see the private N/A V12 McLaren out run the private Porsche twin-turbo flat 6 down the long straights. Damn I miss this circuit.

  The front end bobbing on the Mercs was ridiculous! There was obviously a big problem with front suspension and aero balance. Compared to the Porsche s, which were completely unphased with the bumps. Mercs still managed to win though!

  Heard the JGTC cars were performing subpar against the GT1 cars. What are the flaws that, hypothetically, can be fixed to be competitive?

  A lot of it boiled down to the restrictors the JGTC GT500 cars had to run. In GT1 trim, they could easily compete in the 550-600 hp range, but as they were required to run to JGTC GT500 rules, the engines were detuned to run only 470-480 hp.

  Lack of power, should be around 600 hp, but they run on GT500 trim, about 490 hp only.

  I do remember seeing that Davidoff McLaren at Le Mans in 97 or 98.. My brother talked them up so much, so they couldn't do much but be disappointing

  Back to my childhood. I still think that the CLK-LM 98, 911 GT1 98, Mclaren F1 GTR 97 and Viper are the most beautiful racing cars ever. The current Hypercars/LMdH should look like the GT1 cars from the 1998 season!

  Just got a 05 clk amg never knew of its history lot to live u 2 hope 2 make amg Mercedes proud fixing it. Hood flew up into windshield owner sold it
