Richard iii was not so careless or stupid nor brutal to kill the sons of a brother he adored .. nor did he loss his crown because people thought he did ..he lost the throne because of Nobal Greed and Richard iii support of common people ..as for Margret no one put blame on her because she her husband and Buckingham spread the Propaganda of Richard being a child killer to win suport

I don’t understand why Historians, Ricardians & others defend Richard III behind the Prince’s in Tower. He was their Guardian! Regardless of What Happened or who did it… He Is Responsible!!! They ‘went missing’ on his watch without explanation!

Your map (1 minute in) showing the location of Ludlow is wrong, you show the town as way North of Shrewsbury whereas it is just the opposite - over 30 miles South.

Mathew , you are just BRILLIANT!!! I do use in my works, being international journalist and international relations expert, the same methods of a analysis you do! I am subscribed in your and Richard III of England' Society in Facebook , and I have always been а convinced Ricardian. I'd apply to become a member of the Society soon, and I'd address you with my admirations for your and Phillippa for your fantastic miraculous achievements. As a convinced practicing Christian , I am 100% sure that king Richard III was a moral and lustful Christian monarch , framed by social and political climbers, opportunists and intriguants. This is the only explanations why God allowed his remnants of a real knight and hero to be found more than half millenium , inspite of all framing, black PR and satanic conspiracy against him. It is not very relevant to call Richard 'pious ' , because pious was as well Margaret - Henry Tudor's witchy mother, and I guess Jaquetta of Luxemburg also presented herself as pious. 'Pious ' however is not a synonym of 'Christian ', as the adepts of Satan might also consider themselves pious. Death Mat, I'd dare send you some suggestions re. your investigation projects. The story of Richard III is very similar to the truth about another great king of the similar historical period - the Russian Tzar Ivan Grozniy. By the way, to name in English Ivan IV 'the Terrible ' is not right , because it is a synonym of 'awful ' , but the Russian word 'грозньiй ' means 'Dangerous ' /to his and Russia 's enemies /. Another similarity is that Tzar Ivan IV had his own 'prince of the Tower ' - his own Son and crown- prince whom he was accused to have murdered himself. Recently international group of scientists, Including Russians, opened the grave of the Tzarevitch Ivan, and proved that he died as a result of slow poisoning , not hit by his father by his royal scepter. Russian scientists continue their investigation re.the true reputation and story about Ivan IV of Russia . Admirations too to the young presenter of the channel!😂❤😂

Anne Boleyn said Henry had been a good husband, and something like "a kind and noble lord," in order to protect her daughter Elizabeth from the wrath of Henry. If she had protested her innocence or made statements that she had been falsely accused on the orders of her husband - in other words spoken the truth - she couldn't be sure that her daughter and family would not have been harmed. So, people do lie just before they are executed in order to protect the ones they love.

    1) The victors write the history; and 2) I would not take what someone says on the platform before the gallows, or block as 100th truth. We do know exactly what Anne said about Henry being a "gentle, kind, merciful prince, etc... " The only reason why that survived, is it assuaged Henry's guilt, and placed him in the best light of history. It is possible, that her speech was indeed written by Henry or, a faithful soul in his employ wishing to keep his own head.

I think Richard was a man of his times, the death of his father & older brother along with their abandonment gave him a value lesson. He was going to act quickly after the King’s death to secure a York on the throne. I think it would have been better that Richard had raised the two princes to assure a true Yorkist loyalty. The Woodville’s were still viewed as Lancastrians by many and having a Woodville Uncle raise the boys was a recipe for disaster. Edward did not plan for his early death which still surprises me since he new firsthand how quickly the wheel of fortune could turn.

I love the "meme" example! That was ab excellent way of thinking about it. It's so hard to know what people TRULY thought at the time, because rarely, are we hearing from people of the exact time period that it was written about. Ideas can change, decade to decade (as social media has definitely shown to be true)

Fantastic discussion! I could have listened to this for hours more. Brilliant historians who made superb arguments strongly grounded in the historical records & rumors of the time. While some of the Yorkist arguments do hold water, I'm a John of Gaunt & Beaufort stan therefore side with the Lancastrians. I highly recommend Nathen's "The House of Beaufort" book.

I don't think it's strange Edward was so young to fight. To be cast so quickly as Duke and this desperate battle so soon after his father Duke Richard & his brother died is sad yes, but it only made him more pissed & seeking Revenge. From the Vikings & Alfred these young men of privilege did nothing but study some and train constantly. That is All they had to do. Products of the French War meant Every Male child was Taught either Warfare or Clergy. OFCOURSE his friends & relatives (male) were fighting machines waiting on their chance; As eagerly as their Fathers had All been warriors. I think Edward was Ready and at his prime. Lucky yes, but his Family had made sure he & his brothers had The Best training & weapons, armor money could buy & their horses were of the best quality. And it's not surprising that many Young Men Followed him, he's the new young man with the Name & Wealth to change Everything. Good For Him!

Henry 7th wouldn’t want to denigrate Edward 4th because his legitimacy as king is tied to being married to Elizabeth of York. He needed her dynastic influence to run his court. She was raised in a very rich court but she Also knew of the perils of kingships because she spent time hiding from the Lancastrians. When Henry gets his son in 1537 he named him Edward as a nod to his York family ties via his mother and grandfather.

Great video, i'm not sure of the landscape back then in 1460 but when i went up to the castle i don't think you could really see the bridge from sandal castle, it's quite far away so it's hard to imagine the duke could see any men fleeing from the bridge or near the vicinity and ride to their aid.
