hey! recently thrifted a cricket for a stunning 2 bucks, which was AWESOME since ive wanted her for years. she was missing her battery door, but i was able to 3d print a new one pretty easily. everything on her works great except for one thing- her right eye doesnt move at all! i took a look inside her head thru her neck and it seems like its simply disconnected from the rest of the mechanism inside her head, nothing seems snapped or broken. im sure its the result of a fall or particularly hard bump in her past. the opening in the bottom of her neck is too small for me to fit any tools to snap it back together; so im thinking ill have to cut her head open to access the mech. have you ever done something like this? do you have any advice? im no stranger to major doll surgery as im a collector of several types of doll, but i know scalp repairs on vinyl heads like this are notoriously hard. thanks!!

@@aljenator123cat9 not sure as one has never been found. Though we have found an early prototype picture of Jill and she had a regular cassette like cricket and corky use.

Hes so adorable so funny story i just got myself a corky doll and i love him. Just because of your videos i decided to invest in one i found him on ebay and i am enjoying so far.
@@artgarcia5977 ahh that’s awesome! I’m glad we’ve saved another corky out in the wild and now he’s being enjoyed in your home. He’s pretty great, I just wish they had a chance to make more cassettes and outfits for him. I would have loved a cowboy set or a firefighter!
@@cricketandcorkysclubhousef8686 I know right I mean I got him for 200 and that was a deal cuz they go for more usually but some don't even operate as well anymore and it's explainable its like 40 yrs old. I haggled with a buyer and I didn't think he would work when he convinced me he did and I just have been playing his cassettes a few times today. He's such a beautiful and cool doll. I do agree that I wish he came with more accessories and outfits. He's way before his time just like teddy ruxpin and TV teddy which I owned one.

Now do some Corky's not come with the stickers with the logo underneath his shoes cuz that's driving me crazy I'm going crazy trying to find his logos that go under his sneakers and even have found a few sneakers but the stickers look badly wrinkled peeled up so it's gonna be a mission trying to find them.
@@artgarcia5977 well it seems you have the older original cory model then. The stickers didn’t come on the shoes until the later production. They also started giving him little white cotton socks as well!

@@gradmadanceandbabyalives that’s awesome you found one! He does have a default story and games built in that you don’t need a cartridge for. Hope works once you get some batteries.

@@tailsthefox2023 I agree! I wish they would have made her plastic stronger but I’m sure they didn’t plan on her lasting this far into the future. She’s still cute though.
@@cricketandcorkysclubhousef8686 Well I was confused how the one you had in that video the leg was messed up and the head sometimes comes off but it was brand new in the box how did that happen?
@@tailsthefox2023 the head is good but I know they are fragile. The leg isn’t broken off but it feels loose. Even though she was new she’s still old and been moving about in that box im sure. You should see her bottle and sipper. They had that liquid in them that moved around, but it’s long since turned brown and dried up. Yuck lol

Wow! I knew about all this, but hearing all these girls (some struggling some not) and knowing you put so much work into them and now they’re going into storage makes me so sad. I remember so many late-night chats where you were struggling with one doll or another, sometimes two. All I could do most of the time was listen, but that was enough for the moment. I have been praying you find a place soon.
Baby Heather was full of issues, I got one when they were first introduced, the battery cover is a nightmare, and as she got older the plastic became too brittle to even use

@@80spopculture58 thank you for the kind words! It’s all good, things come and go in life I suppose. The silver lining is I love to find and rescue these old dolls so I can replace whatever I sell. The hardest part is the original outfits and those I’ve been keeping so the hunt won’t be so hard.
Wow! She’s not quite as creepy as I thought. I’ve seen creepy animatronics but she’s pretty neat. So what moves on her? Is it just her head? I know her eyes flip. And I wonder why she makes that buzzing sound every time she resets? It doesn’t sound healthy. Unless of course that’s part of the creepy factor. Lol! I once had a doll in mind that I thought about purchasing back in the day. I think she was called scary Mary or something like that. She very slowly spins around in circles and says these really creepy phrases like, “would you like to play with me??? “Accompanied by this music box that slows down and speeds up as she spins. Maybe her name was rosemary? I don’t remember. Anyway, she was in the spirit Halloween catalog years and years and years ago. Unfortunately, now, I have no idea where I would put her. I don’t have the room that I once did. Lol!

I might try and record something before I pack her away and sell her. Just to have some footage of why she is a problematic doll and to warn others of her faults!
I see you have a rogue apostrophe in your title. Sometimes those things are worse than glitter. lol Awww. Yeah, that's too bad that you're going to lose your space. I'm thinning dolls out myself, but that's something that I choose to do, so it's different. The girls kind of sounded like a school cafeteria at lunch time.

Totally awesome! I love dolls like Chucky and Annabelle. I have Chucky and Tiffany props that I use for Halloween, that talk. Have you seen Chucky season three? That just came out.

I’ve watched three or four episodes of it, but I haven’t seen the rest of them. So far, it’s very good. I can’t wait to purchase the third season. I saw the first three or four episodes on Peacock.
I wanted to ask you , I need a worlds of wonder Mickey battery cover….if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it, I’m working on a black cricket now…but I want to rest Mickey. Cricket has audio and I’m ready to replace her bands and just clean her insides, grease a bit where needed….one eye is broken so cranial surgery is needed.
@@stevecarissimo4007 oh gosh I wish I had more knowledge of Mickey! I’ve not owned one so not sure how to replace it. I would maybe find a cheap spare in like shop goodwill or market place just to get the battery cover. Very cool that you have an AA cricket! Most likely her eye just came off the socket and can snap back on. Is she the short hair or the long hair version?

@@stevecarissimo4007 oh nice the original version! Her hair is a bit tricky to wash. Because of the curls. I suggest washing before you take her head apart so the seal isn’t broken to allow water in. For her particular I would actually just put her hair in a hair net and run warm water over it with dawn dish soap to get off the dust and grime. Just squish it around. The hair net will keep the original curls intact.

@@stevecarissimo4007 you are most welcome. If you want to add another wash I do Pantene shampoo and then conditioner for some shine. Just rinse between each liquid. Thank you! I love saving these old toys and restoring them back to how they looked new. It’s fun to try and hunt for all the items and collect it all for display!

I found the same compeny of a toy made my doll corky but it still open.
@@gzinicepr119 yes playmates still makes toys. They almost went bankrupt but we’re saved by making the teenage mutant ninja turtle toys.

@@Horrorhead7402 nice! Chucky is what got me into the 80s talking dolls. I was watching a documentary and saw the good guy doll was inspired my playmates corky and I had to have one. Then I got hooked on all of the talking dolls of the 80s, especially Jill as she’s a full on robot.

She is amazing! I love foreign speaking dolls…I was wondering if you have any tips to share with washing/setting and styling Jill, Cricket and Corky hair? I have an AA Cricket who will need a complete overhaul, and just wanted to know the best way to wash and soften the hair and what you use for setting? Rollers, perm rods, spongy curing rods?
@@stevecarissimo4007 thank you! Yes the foreign languages are so cool! Congrats on the AA as they are very rare. I use Pantene to wash their hair. I have a video up somewhere way back where I wash AA crickets hair I think. Jill has a salon video as well. You have to be extremely careful not to allow water inside their heads or it will destroy them. AA Jill has a tighter curl than Caucasian Jill so I use perm rods for her and old fashioned foam rollers for Caucasian versions. Only use hot water, don’t try the boil method as it will damage their hair. Just leave the rollers in for several days!

What if you could open a jill cassette, remove the tape and slap the components of a bluetooth cassette, so when you start jill, its connected to bluetooth because of the custom cassette

Congratulations!!! I have a platinum Jill too for some years ago, i didn't know she was rare 😮 because i have 4 Jills and 2 of them have the same hair, another one from Canada has the hair more straight than the others, and the other one has the hair more white but i not give any importance, i thought maybe they change the fiber on the final production or something like that, and i didn't find any information on internet, but I'm glad to know that she isn't that common. Thanks for your videos, very informative for the Jill fans like me 😊
That's the same thing that i learned byuing Jills on eBay, "untested" means "not working"... At least before Jill dolls wasn't so expensive as now.
Great video, very interesting. I bought elastic bands on eBay fron China and worked really good on my 2 fully working Jills, i change the bands about 2 years ago and still the movements are smooth. I need to deyellow the eyes too, i will use peroxide, it worked for me on other toys. Sorry for my poor english.
Cricket was and still is amazing. I was 5 when I got Cricket back in 1986...I had gone in to have my tonsils removed, and after they took me back for surgery, my parents went and borrowed money from my grandma to buy me a cricket doll, and they had her next me to in the hospital bed when I woke up 🥹 Im 43 now and its something i will never forget.

I just watched Patty Playpall tell her cheer story with Crazy Robot Lady, so I decided to come watch Jill's too. Funny, the idea of being a cheerleader never came near my mind when I was in school. I wasn't that class of student.
