Holy shit. Conan got screwed so hard and he took the hit so well. It's pretty amazing he supposedly paid for his staff's salary for 1 year & moving to LA to start his TBS show.

In a terrible situation, Conan made the best of it. And with his humility and optimism intact. This here, this closing? This is perfect television. We can still get it right.

For the record, I'm not a Conan fan. I find him sort of annoying. However, I think his message to his audience and how, even though he could say whatever he wanted to considering the circumstances, he chose to still be respectful and kind, shows a lot of class and I respect him for that. Things turned out great for Conan afterwards with his success on TBS and I'm happy for that. Good for him!

A lot of gen Z think it's cool to have a dramatic exit from a shitty job by burning bridges and bashing the employer. Sure that makes for a viral tiktok. But that's just childish and unprofessional. This is how you take the high road and quit like a man. Even though he had every right to go off on MSNBC, he didn't. He held his head high and walked out. And everyone, probably even his haters respected him for it.

I first came across this speech in 2019 shortly after I had given up the best job that I'd ever had to move to a new city & find a "better life" with my partner. Unfortunately, despite my hard work and best intentions, it turned into 4 years of hell and the "better life" that we both wanted never happened. However, an unforeseen opportunity to move away from there would later come along and we are on our way to that "better life" now. Moral of the story: Not everybody gets what they want out of life. But if you work hard and you're kind, amazing things can happen. Thank you for showing me that, Conan 🙏

I will never forget this night. I was seriously watching in disbelief. I was 12 in 93 when he first started his late night show and every night I would turn on my (for some weird reason) tiny black and white TV and turn the volume way down so I wouldn't wake my parents. The funny thing was at school the next day, everyone else did it too! Even teachers would talk to us about Conan! Everyone I knew got the comedy and LOVED IT! When he got the Tonight show though... I was through the roof! Finally he is getting what he deserves! It was a beautiful moment for us fans. Andy coming back was legendary too! But the show was even better than I ever could have guessed. I will always hate Jay Leno for destroying this perfect show.

The reason why, and the after effect of what happened regarding late night talk shows is arguably Conan’s biggest mark on television history. They were going to bastardize the whole schedule and format in the most cynical way. That’s what I believe he’s referring to, and he felt like he wasn’t only doing the right thing, but fighting an injustice within the company. That’s just my take.

I watched this with the most wonderful person I've ever met in my life and one of my best friends, right after she had met her future husband. I knew I wasn't the one for her, but all the same this hit home and was pretty special to see live. Thank you for showing so much heart and the great advice Conan. I still haven't met the one but maybe she is still out there.
