    Does anyone know of a video recording of this production? I've seen clips of it, so clearly a recording does exist, but I am having a hard time locating it. Any suggestions?

    Indians were in America before the white man. Blacks were forced to come here. Anyone else was an immigrant. It doesn't matter whether your ancestors arrived on the Mayflower or whether you just arrived. America needs you.

    Does anyone know, if BBC radio has produced many other Greek Tragedies in radio format? I would love to hear more of the classical plays done like this

    Very politically correct, and full of lies - a typical BBC documentary.

    Spent a glorious half year there, practically the only tourist if you did not count the oddballs from the odd yacht anchoring at Jamestown. It was paradise, splendid isolation in awesome nature.

    Yeah right...'An end to isolation' as if that's a good thing. St. Helena, doesn't need any rich outsiders (with the help of the greedy leaders of St. Helena with dollar signs in their eyes) to 'develop' (ruin) it (like they have everything else)...no thank you

    I think that people's work ethic and motivation to make an effort may be largely dependent on their upbringing, but only up to a certain point. As disadvantaged people get older, they can ask themselves what role they are playing to perpetuate their unfavorable circumstances and learn how to make better decisions. I don't think people are complete victims of luck and chance. I think that argument applies less and less the older people get.

    If you never learn to read due to there being few to no schools in your country and immigrate to another much richer country in your 50s or 60s, is your life circumstances your doing?

  • @luistirado88
    @luistirado88 Жыл бұрын

    @@markusklyver6277 It certainly makes things more difficult if you never learned how to read. But I also think there could be worse circumstances for people. For example, some people are born with rare genetic disabilities like conjoined twins. I think that society needs to have more of an attitude of "we are all in this together" and governments need to reflect that by uplifting the standard of living of disadvantaged people. I think it's also important to note that money doesn't always equal happiness. Happiness is more important than how much you earn. If a nurse is happier than a banker, and can afford every thing she needs to be happy, then what does it matter if she gets paid less than a banker?

    Immigration is great. It's about the numbers. Let in too many, you lose your country, too few, you deny opportunity. An ideal world would allow completely free movement - there's just too many people.

    Simple way to answer this question of paid fairness to Prof. Sandel himself, "Why does he, as a famous professor at Harvard University, get paid a lot more than a similar professor at a local community college?" The local professor works as hard as teaching and training the students, or does he? Step a step further, why the President of Harvard makes $1.1Mil in salary annually while he doesn't teach anything?

    I was raised in a society where parents never took vacations , did not spend on purses and shoes , cooked at home , minimized expenses to save for children's education and health care ! Americans have been infantalised with a never ending adolescence where they are told their needs will be provided by other tax payers ! I don't want to pay for care of others ! Let them do their own work .
