Amazing - simple fix that will hopefully be the end of so much frustration! Thank you so much for sharing. Like other people have said, I don't understand why Ikea refuse to make a more permanent fix - but then I guess that would involve them admitting there is a problem!

I never had it slip out but then again I don't use it as a bed often. I do however get a lot of play from the armrest like you said and I was doubting whether I had assembled it right but looks like that's just a design issue. I might do the L bracket fix when I do my project to raise the height of this sofa.

Omfg!!! TY so much man. What an easy and simple fix. I did this with a couple washers, screws and brackets I had around the house. You’re a genius man.

I added 4 washers to each screw and then added heavy duty rubberized pads for the couch legs and that worked for me!

Thank you Rasheem! We were going crazy , our side panel wasn't going on properly. 3 washers on each bolt was enough to line things up properly. Problem solved! Thank you again!

Can confirm it worked perfectly !! How they havent fixed this design flaw after so many years, is beyond me...

I tried 3 and then 6 washers on each screw but it was still able to slip out quite easily. Mine was apparently so messed up that I had to put the "hook" at an angle by using more washers on one side than the other (6 on the front side, 0 on the back side). That eventually fixed it. I hope it doesn't strain the wood too much, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Thank you for this fix! I predrilled holes and used some 1 inch particle board flat head screws. I only used one bracket and didn't put washers in the hooks and it has been working like a charm so far!

Right on, the L brackets are key to solving this mass production fail by IKEA. They know but since this is their economical line they don’t care to make it sturdy. They run on the same controlled obsolescence design as the rest of the world.

People do (i did!) - Ikea sent an "engineer" to check if it was a manufacturing issue, decided it wasn't, so refused to acknowledge an issue so they wouldn't have to give a refund.

Size of washers I used. 1/4". I used three for each nail (so 3 multiplied by 4). I also only used one bracket at the bottom where he had his, but my bracket was smaller (it will be nice for someone to push it in while you screw those into place).
