    Followed this method on a chamberlain roller lift plus (shares DNA with the Merlin?) wondered if it would work given the magnet cruises past the sensor a few times during open but this doesn’t trigger a closed state. I zip tied the sensor round the fabric tape to stop it wandering. Thanks for sharing! I think this is faster and better than mounting it at the bottom of the door somehow, even before considering weather ingress, it getting knocked, etc.

    You said "Mistakes were made. The cables don't reach back far enough." What does that mean exactly and what did you do to fix the problem?

  • @pseudofix

    Thanks for watching! The shifter/brake cables were too short to assemble the levers onto the now-higher handlebars, so in the next step I removed the handlebar assembly as a whole, reassembled with the brake/shifter levers, then put it all back as a whole.

    that's a good idea if you only need to move it in one direction. Was trying to figure out a lower center of gravity caster setup but not sure this will meet my needs. Excellent idea nonetheless.

    Thanks for watching! Yes, these rollers don’t allow for 360 degree movement (without pivoting), but they also aren’t locked wheels so I’m happy it isn’t keen to move quickly!

    interesting design for those lids.. I would think that you can't open the right one without first opening the left one due to the aluminum flashing that was installed? Also seems like the weather stripping on the sides wasn't necessary since there are huge gaps toward the back that don't look like they were closed. the stripping on the front also doesn't seem necessary due to the slant on the lid, any water that lands on it would run off the overhanging edge, though I guess it will dampen the lid when being closed.

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix9 ай бұрын

    That’s right, the lids open in sequence because of the aluminium channel, which works very well to keep water out. The black weather stripping for the front and sides was chosen purely to keep the noise down, the lids close with some force! The stripping along the L and R edges was purely added for consistent aesthetics and to slightly minimise water ingress from the sides, but those sides are already very well shaded from rain. If this box was more exposed, I’d definitely close up the sides more.

    @@pseudofixWouldn’t it have been easier to add the weather stripping to the lid instead? How is it holding up?

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix8 ай бұрын

    The weather stripping is a rubbery plastic and doesn’t have strong adhesion properties, so I didn’t trust it to stay attached upside down to the lid. Attaching it to the brickwork was the way to go, and yes it’s held up great!

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix11 ай бұрын

    I used www.gasspringsshop.com/gas-spring-calculator/ for the initial measurements, then converted it as best I could to match the gas struts available locally. As seen in the video, a slight adjustment in position needed to be made.

    I don't think it's so much the shape of the handlebars but rather mostly the handles that are important. My left hand routinely gets numb. I'm looking to add a vertical handle so I can change positions.

    How many volts are the signal output wires feeding the motor with?

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix Жыл бұрын

    I don’t think they feed any voltage. They’re there to bridge the terminals in the motor, the same that a wall mounted button would do.

    This is fantastic video. Thank you for the great explanation. Just a quick question on the Merlin SmartDrive control panel. How to you insert/clamp the Meross wires?

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! The terminals on the Merlin control panel are spring terminals, so first you push in on the orange tabs, and then can insert your control wires straight into the circular openings. I hope this helps!

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix Жыл бұрын

    Hey Stephan, I’m not sure what you’re referring to by photocells? Do you mean PV cells for solar power? If so, then no, this unit is powered purely over USB using the supplied power adapter.

    @@pseudofix cheers for response! No, in some of the guides or specs for this product it suggests there are infrared sensors need fitted also - just in case a child etc runs under it while activated remotely.

    The video didn't show closely where 2 wires connect to in the Merlin motor controller, is it possible to indicate where the 2 wires are connected to?

  • @pseudofix
    @pseudofix Жыл бұрын

    Hi Michael, the two ‘control’ wires fit into the two far-right, white and red terminals of my Merlin Quietdrive, as shown in the diagram at 1:30. The polarity didn’t matter as it just needs to complete the circuit. If your Merlin model is different, please check their website for more documentation.
