Hi, I'm Keven and I want to help you build your own gym equipment. I make easy to follow instructional guides on equipment that you can build yourself. Join me in getting fit and saving money at the same time.
Try to keep your concrete plates underwater for bout a week. This will make it harder and stronger. Don't ever let it get too dry. The first 24 hours keep spraying it with water. And then when you pull it out the mold put it underwater for like 5 days. Then let it dry out finally. If you dont keep it wet and just let it dry out in like 24 hours your concrete is only gonna be like 25% its true potential in hardness.

I definitely appreciate the video but you might try making sure that the surface that you set these on are level in the future man. It definitely looks like some of those weights are thicker on one side than the other.

Put tape over the pvc section you wish to cut should help with the splitting nasty edges. I would also fill the bar with concrete, it will make it heavier, stronger, and will help to prevent excessive bending.

I know I'm a little late here but the article is about making a training bar for people who can't use a 45 lb barbell. This wasn't meant to hold 100's of pounds.

Damn, this looks like the perfect solution at home. I'm new to anything gym based, but aren't these barbells supposed to weight like 20 kg (around 45 pounds) without weight? No criticsim, just curious if you have a way to get it. Thanks man!

I was thinking similar. The only way I could think to do it would be to fill the bar with something of substantial density, such as maybe sand, steel shot, etc. You'd need to have a way to plug the ends so whatever you fill with doesn't leave the side and also create a tight enough seal that whatever you plug with won't shoot out when the internal pressure gets high from dropping or excessive bending of the bar. Completely spitballing here, but maybe 12 inches of wooden dowel of just barely smaller diameter than that of the inside of the steel pipe, with adhesive in multiple circles along the length of the wooden dowel. Do that to each side and I think it would seal well enough against shooting out/losing the filler and still give you enough volume inside the pipe to add at least SOME weight.

On the mold... Just buy a cooler tub. They cost about $8... Have 17inch base, are perfectly round, are plastic so concrete wont stick. They are water tight so you can use a wetter mix... And bonus you can pond cure the plates in them for say 3 days after they set so your concrete gets to full strength.
@luigiprovencher8888 Жыл бұрын
What's a cooler tub and pond curing? Do you mean by submersing the plates in water? Or do you mean by just putting some water on top of the concrete before it gets removed from the cooler tub?
