Why are you wearing a British RAMC shoulder DZ flash?
Great question. That’s actually my co-pilot. This flight took place at an exercise with the British where we did a training day with them. During the training we traded patches with them so we were wearing the patches we exchange. We also took the Brits on a flight and they loved it. Great crowd. We enjoyed hanging out with them.
Heck yah
Bro your videos are spot on 🙌🏼 just passed P1 yesterday and I feel like I’m right on track with where you were during your journey. Appreciate the advice and the help 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hey man! That’s great to hear and thank you. Making it through P1 is huge. It only gets easier from there. Good luck and thanks for the support.

@scud-runner my very young career grew up with your content lol been watching since before dropping the packet.
That’s awesome to hear bro 🤙. I’m glad to help and inspire our community. Good luck wherever you are in the pipeline. I will continue to work to produce relevant content to help our community out.
Closely following thank you
Thank you for this video. It’s really making me reconsider just going the civilian route.
Glad to hear you found the video informative. Thanks for the support and good luck on whatever route you choose.
Left seaters are still dickheads here. Not many bodybuilders tho, mostly old has been kiowa dudes......
Really appreciate this
Hi Scud Runner I'm a big fan of your channel and my dream is to be an army aviator in the National Guard but I was only six points from passing the ASVAB and I would like to start as a Crew Chief but I was wondering if the Warrant Officer Aviation board looks at how many times I took the ASVAB. My recruiter said I'd have better luck applying to ROTC and getting a commission as a Second Lieutenant I was wondering if it's true that the Aviation Warrant Officer board looks at my ASVAB scores and how many times I took the test this would be my second time taking the test.
Thanks for the support. I don’t think the selection board looks at your ASVAB score and I doubt they look to see how many times you took it. They do look at your SIFT test scores but not your ASVAB scores, at least to my knowledge. On the part about going commission vs. warrant it’s about what you want out of your career. Both of the selection boards are difficult and I would argue that the commissioned route is harder because you have to get a degree and be selected for aviation. If you aren’t selected for aviation you will just default to needs of the Army. My advice is to study hard and retake the ASVAB and don’t worry about the board looking at how many times you took the ASVAB. Start studying for the SIFT test and take the SIFT test as soon as you can so that you can drop your packet to go to flight school. Good luck and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
Nice one Sir 🫡
Thanks brotha 🤙
Hello. Been watching for a while now. I am currently a senior in HS working on my WOFT packet. I was wondering what family time is like. How often are you away from close family (wife, kids, etc.) and how often can I travel home to see extended family? I'm on the fence between AD and Reserve, I hope to fly the Apache or Chinook. Just curious how often you get to see family and how often you are away. Love the content, Thanks!
Hello! Thank you for supporting my channel; it’s great to hear you enjoy my content. As an Army pilot, you can expect to be away from home quite a bit. Since completing flight school and arriving at my unit, I've experienced the following: NTC Rotation: This was a 3-week-long exercise, including a 10-day field exercise as a train-up prior to going. Field Exercises: Several field exercises have lasted a few days each. When not deployed, you can expect to be away from your family for around 2 months a year in total. Currently, I'm at the tail end of a 9-month deployment to Europe. This deployment is a significant time away from home and family. I’m active duty, so I can't speak from a Reserve perspective, but National Guard and Reserve units also deploy, though less frequently. You can also visit your extended family on leave throughout the year when you aren’t at an exercise or on a deployment. I hope this gives you a clear idea of the time commitment and the periods you might spend away from your family. Thank you again for your support.
hoping to go warrant after i make e5 and go to airborne school after deployment. already got my civilian ratings bout to start liberty to try to get a bs in aviation
That’s outstanding congratulations. I wish you the best of luck. Reach out if you have any questions.
Perfect Music..!!!
you are becoming an actual cinematograph, love how you master the cam!! beautiful scenes. you gotta consider doing a longer project.
Thanks bro! I love the feed back.
You need extra pay for recruiting from these videos. Putting a packet together, any tips?
Haha thank you for supporting my channel and I’m happy you like the videos. As for tips, just stay committed to your goals of going to flight school. If you have any specific questions please feel free to reach out to my email in my channel bio.
INCREDIBLE!!!! any chance you could upload the full raw video with no music?
Not for this one, maybe for another one. Coming soon!
@@scud-runner Awesome!!
This is sick!
How often do you fly NOE vs high altitude flying?
We fly both modes all the time.
@@scud-runner awesome! NOE definitely looks the the more fun one
Love it!
These problems even for warrants ?
Yes these are issues for everyone in Army aviation.
@@scud-runner How many hours a year would a warrant get? Do you fly more in the army versus the Navy for example?
I'm not sure how much Navy pilots fly but FAC 1 minimums in the Army are 96 hours a year. That is what you must fly each year to be considered current. I would say a solid year at a unit for an untracked pilot in the Army is about 130-160. That is pretty solid. If you get more than that that’s an outstanding year. Once you track you will fly more hours than that especially if you are an instructor pilot.
If I go into the infantry in the National Guard can I transition to being a warrant officer and aviator?
Yes you can.
Are you a warrant officer or commissioned officer. Warrant is more helicopter focused as opposed to commissioned right?
I’m a commissioned officer. We fly but we are the managers of the Army. Warrants do fly more over the course of their careers.
Where can we get good reference materials on hoist operations for Blackhawks?
The Army Aviation Rescue Hoist Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) H-60.
@@scud-runner Is this like a classified document or is it an open source for all BH users all over the world?
It’s not classified.
Finishing up ground school now. Start flying in common core this week!
That’s awesome man. Congratulations and enjoy flying.
You got it bro!
I hope to be there one day!
Why is it written in the checklist to land ASAP if primary servo 1 or 2 fails? Doesn’t back-up pump take over sa primary servos should it fail?
It depends on the EP. If you have a hyp pump fail and the backup comes on it’s a land as soon as practicable. If the back up does not come on it’s Land ASAP because there is nothing pressurizing one of the sets of primary servos in this case. If you just have a primary servo fail that is an issue with the servo itself not the hydraulic pumps so doesn’t matter what is pressurizing it the servo itself is broken so it’s ASAP.
@@scud-runner thank you so much. It all makes sense now. So switching to 1st or 2nd stage only isolates hyd pressure on the damaged servo, meaning only one servo is left for forward/aft/lateral movement. And if that gets damaged the will be no more way to control the aircraft which is why its land ASAP.
Exactly because the servo is either malfunctioning or could have a leak in it.
Is there a desired stab angle when flying in stab manual mode? how do you determine the best angles in stab in different airspeeds?
Excellent question. If you fly in Stab manual mode you adjust to 0 degrees above 40 KIAS. Below 40 KIAS stab full down. There is also a VNE arch that adjust based on the airspeed on the airspeed indicator that you can look at to ensure you are at a safe airspeed to assist you.
@@scud-runner thanks very informative
Hello there. I just watched your US flight school videos from Road to Rucker to P2, and its really great contentent and it was really helpful. I got question tho. As a foreign student from Europe, im supposed to go to Fort Novosel to "Basic RW pilot training" from 01.07. to 31.12.2024. I feel like there is not enough time to go through all this that you have talked about in judt those 6 months. So can you tell me what should i expect in these 6 months of school, r we gonna skip some of it and go straight to helicopter training or what? Thanks a lot in advance.
That is a great question. And I’m honestly not 100% sure. I think your assumption is correct because I don’t recall seeing any foreign students in BOLC or SERE. So my best guess is that you will go straight into common core (basic flight school). This will be two weeks of ground school, three weeks of P1, three week P2, four weeks of basic instruments, two weeks of advanced instruments, and 5-6 weeks of BWS. Which comes out roughly 20 weeks. Don’t quote me on this because I’m just doing rough math based off of my memory from 3 years ago lol. But six months should be enough time. I’m assuming you will return back to your country to learn your advanced airframe?
@@scud-runner Wow. What an fast answer. Thanks man. I guess, im new to it tho. Coming from artillery backround, dont know much about flying. Just passed my tests, including SIFT and medicals few months back. Now im just waiting to go to Fort Novosel while still working in artillery. But we will definetly have more training back home, at least 6-12 months. Do you have any advice what to bring there as foreinger, any info on accommodation/housing, do we get to have roommates and stuff like that? Would appreciate it a lot.
This is my absolute dream! Trying to become a warrant officer to fly.
Nice man. Good luck. If you have any questions reach out.
@@scud-runner I’ll send you an email for some advice
Why would you fly a MTF for a stab center box R2? Makes no sense.
Because a center stab replacement requires an MTF.
I am having trouble deciding warrant or commission officer?
Depends what you want to focus your career on. If you really like managing the overall operation and organization of a unit then commissioned officer is the route you should pursue. Understand that you will fly less once you become a field grade (Major and higher). If management isn’t as important to you and you’d rather focus on flying then warrant officer is the route for you.
@@scud-runner thank you
Does helicopter training transfer to fix wing?
Depends on what you mean. Short answer yes. If you want to pursue the airlines later after your Army aviation career the FAA requires at least 750 total hours of flight time that can be in a helicopter or fixed wing. They do require at least 250 of those hours be fixed wing. This is called the restricted ATP. If you are talking about just the skills in general then yes they do. Landing and takeoff are different but cruise flight and cockpit management are pretty much the same.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Awesome!
What happens if you get hurt of something during training? Will you get chartered out or will they reclassify you to another mos
They will first try to get you healthy enough again to get you back on an up-slip. If that doesn’t happen they will reclass you to a new MOS or if you are already in you’d go back to your old MOS.
Thanks for posting miss it :)
Thanks for watching!
super sweet
All right man…friendly heads up. Might want to read the front cover of your checklist where it starts with “WARNING” and continues through “Distribution Statement D”. Never let punctuation stop you from being a subject matter expert 👍
I appreciate you pointing this out. I didn’t cover anything classified or anything that would put someone at risk. My aim is and always has been to assist people in flight school or aspiring to go to flight school. If you have any concerns with anything specific I covered please let me know. You can also google the technical manual and download it open source on the internet. Again I appreciate the heads up but the video is simply pre-flighting a black hawk.
@@scud-runner Fair enough, just thought I’d give some heads-up from someone who’s been doing this job for a long time. I would be prepared just to answer some questions on your next DES or ARMS visit as to why this needs to be put on KZread. Have a good one 🤙
Thanks man. I really do appreciate it.
Good Evening, Today. Indeed
This is remarkable!! Thank you so much for posting this

A little off topic for the video but, what makes a competitive street to seat packet? I have my private helicopter license and am working toward my intrument rating, fixed wing license and, aircraft mechanic certificate. Is there anything more that I can do?
I think everything you listed looks excellent on a packet. At the very least it will help you do well in flight school. Understand that there is no experience requirement for street to seat. Yes having all of your ratings is going to show your aptitude to the board and help you get through flight school. But the board is more interested in hearing how you are going to be a good Army pilot. They want a candidate they feel is passionate about Army aviation, have longevity with the Army, and be the best pilot for fighting in the next war. That’s what they are focused on.
Better than our 182 night flight😂 Pops
beautiful!!!!!!! especially love the glimpses of the instruments.
Just made it through SERE!!!
Congrats man. Now the fun starts!!
