Theriault's Dolls

Theriault's Dolls

Founded in 1970 by Florence and George Theriault, the firm has specialized exclusively in the appraisal and auction of antique dolls and childhood playthings throughout its 48-year history. The firm's offices and cataloging center are headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland, although its live auctions are conducted in major cities throughout the United States.

Theriault's is founded on traditional values, among which is the belief that a business must return value to the community that supports it. To that end, Theriault's has been a leader in education of doll collectors. "It's our abiding belief that the best collectors are educated collectors," says Florence Theriault.

The dolls you share are most always beautiful and desirable, but with this installment, you have provided us with so much thoughtful information on a brief period of doll making history. Thank you! A lot can be gleaned from these informative videos!

At Christmas 1956, I received a Ginny doll and wardrobe plus my grandparents bought a trunk for her. Sixty-Eight years later, I still have her, and she attests to the charm of smaller dolls for another generation of little girls.

I love the young adult/late teen look face of the first doll in brown but Lily is my favourite adult who looks perhaps 5 to 10 years older. Of the bodies, I would love one with the upper arm and the leg additional swivel point. It would add another dimension to display.

Ohhh sake saucer… good god It’s gonna take me forever to decipher all the meanings behind the dolls. I asked family members whenever I’d get a chance, which was hard because I knew which were mine, but didn’t know which doll belonged to who. But turns out it didn’t matter because they all shrugged and didn’t know anything. 🙄 I’m 34, they’re not getting younger, so I’m asking everything I can but I never get answers. OR the most annoying part is, is “idk” “idk” and years later .. the story. “I thought you didn’t know.” “No I know.” Me:😡😤 after months and months of research. I swear my mom plays dumb until she’s in the mood to answer my questions. Or she’s hitting Alzheimer’s early at 64. Can’t tell. 😒 I’ve always described her as an Asian Kathy Bates, the scary version.

Ohh in my house are many dolls that belong to us, been gifted to us, and I think my aunt just liked collecting them so we have a few. But that explains the anomaly I noticed and would stare at. I was wondering why the woman with the pails had that pained or sad look on her face, which completely stands out to the rest who stay composed & “pretty.” I thought the painter or crafter made a mistake and accidentally made her sad but I guess she’s meant to look like that.

Usually, I am not fond of early English dolls. I see their historic importance, but find them so 'snooty" looking. However the smaller lady in the simple brown dress and pretty apron standing to the bottom right of this group has a sweet little face. I would love to see her close up.

My husband was a Master Potter. Before he passed he spoke of making miniature pieces of pottery and figurines were Either Molded from miniature molds or hand thrown USEING toothpicks . Very very difficult throwing techniques and the moldings . Amazing collections in this doll house and the dolls in detailed miniature. in 60 years of his work and collections he had very few pieces that we had come across. This type of collection is mainly going in Europe I believe and the COST of these tiny creations was well above what the average person could buy. Thank you for sharing this beautiful Doll house and it's content.🤎😘
