GWS was way ahead of its time. They are incredible airframes that fly very well. I miss the company being gone. Their P51 and corsair were incredible flyers. The A10 was great too. Building them was part of the fun.

I think the throttle to pitch would work great on a foam aircraft I have that the faster it goes it begins to climb and I always have to add down elevator. My theory is the wings are bow some at high speeds causing more lift. I would like to have some down elevator added as throttle is applied, it may help this aircraft fly better. Thanks for your video. It's helping me a lot.

  • @Zek1701

I hated that throttle-to-pitch mix because on my first trainer plane they had that in the receiver. As I beginner I would takeoff at max speed then it was all I could do to get the plane to turn 180 degrees. By the time I finished the turn the plane was so I high I was starting to lose orientation. To this day I still don't like the idea. If you want to go up pull back on the stick...period!

if you add another lead to the elevator servos with a bigger receiver you can add tailerons. I have a TX16s and added another elevator channel, then added aleron movements to the elevator by adding in aleron inputs on the rudder channel

The F14 is a complex aircraft with elevons, wing sweep, etc. However, it is doable. I have the 80, 50, 40 versions and love em. I am very confident with the right receiver and the plane configured properly, it will be a great flying plane and will be one of my favs due to its size and awesomeness. Don't let my experience dampen your experience with this awesome plane. I've ordered all the parts to repair it and there will be a redemption flight as soon as the nose cone is in stock!

I saw one of these crash at my club with the same crazy up and down before the crash. I think this may be the result of the elevators plugged into the contorl box/gyro in the wrong location. See the Motion RC video where they specifically talk about this situation and how to check to see if the gyro is moving the elevator in the correct direction when you point the nose up or down. A simple swap of the two elevator plugs solves the problem.

Ouch ! Sorry to see this crash. You mentioned "cheaper receiver" in your video. Did you have a successful range check? I don't know what you really have - but some time ago I bought a receiver on line that looked just like Spektrum. Later, I found that some of these were listed as using 'after market parts' or something to that effect. Well, what I had was a cheap copy of a Spektrum product - and I did range check it before putting it in a plane. My results were that it would only range check out to about half the distance that my good spektrum receivers had. So - I have never trusted this receiver enough to fly it.

Sorry to see you have a drastically bad maiden. You are not the only one to experience this as nearly everyone eventually encounters this situation if you are in the hobby long enough. It is part of the build, setup, crash, repair (if possible) and repeat process of flying RC anything. Props to you for not being afraid of sharing your failure to us all. I have destroyed many aircraft over the years due to just about every reason you can think of. ESC failure, radio failure, of course pilot error and improper setup which I suppose is a part of pilot error, but all end in a bad way for the most part. Keep on flying and know there will be plenty of great days with your stable of airplanes this Spring and Sunmer to come!

Just use a long 1/16" diameter piano wire running through the entire original assembly, both through the elevator rotating shaft mount as well as the elevator. Much faster and easier without needing to butcher the airframe and fit any aftermarket/replacement parts.

Yes, the 50 F14 is 39" long, but it is old jet technology. Overall quality doesn't compare to today's jets. And yes I did get the 64 F14...been asking and wanting for 2 years. FINALLY! Got it yesterday and adding nose light and ABs. The EV board has lots of spaces for extra lights and you can choose which lights either stay on or strobe. Also has a spot for a "landing light", which is only on when the gear is down. Nose light is going on that one. Do you do FPV? Never done it but am interested to do it one day. Of course with an F14 since I'll never get a ride in a real one. Any suggestions on a basic setup?
