    I learned docker before Linux and it has been a journey but it shouldn't stop someone from starting. Just build stuff and have fun.

    For the first example couldn’t we achieve the same thing by using an emptyDir when creating the volume? That way no initContainer is needed ?

    So if I want to run a Windows docker image and install applications into that image, can I do that? Is it possible to say, install an Anti-virus application into a Windows Docker image?

    I've never heard of AV in a container. Generally you're ONLY running a single app (webapp, CLI, API server, DB server, etc). In a Windows Container image, you'd add apps the same way you'd install something via the CLI in Windows (there's no GUI during image build). If it's a .exe installer, see what options it has by using a setup.exe /help (or /?) and if it's a .msi file, learn how to install those via CLI.

    Bret, not sure if you will read this, but worth a shot. I have a newesr MBPro with the M3 Max Chip. I have docker desktop running and have set up several containers with programs running in them. They show to be running correctly, but I cannot figure out how to access them locally through the assigned ports. Do you have any resources for this you could point me in the direction of?

  • @BretFisher
    @BretFisher23 күн бұрын

    Normally, you just publish the ports in your docker run command (-p port:port) and then access them via localhost:port on your mac host. If that doesn't work, I recommend letting the community help you in our Discord server: discord.gg/devops

    I am part of one of those old monolithic approaches that still needs to make a transition to containers, automation and management of it all. The LARGEST, by far, is the entry cost, and constant monthly payment of insane amounts for the simplest deployments. Cost of resources, services, storage, etc it goes on and on with Azure. In the end you are left with a hefty monthly bill that your organization has to pay for the simplest services you can do at a fraction of a cost, manually on-prem. Until they change the way they charge you and lower the cost of some of there services where it makes sense, this will remain the largest hurdle of broader adoption.

    I'm a noob but is this better for inference speed if I installed desktop docker and use frigate nvr with google coral? Installing a barebones Debian or do I need an Ubuntu desktop.

  • @chieeyeoh6204

    I suppose docker desktop exist to help us manage containers and images rather than inference optimization.

    Can this still be exploited inside a running container with an image you don't have access to? More specifically, an image managed by a k8s actions runner controller. What about a malicious Actions workflow to run jobs on said container?

  • @BretFisher
    @BretFisher3 ай бұрын

    It's only exploited during container startup, and could be in any image that someone previously exploited that you've downloaded to run, or if someone changes the runtime parameters on an existing image to startup with different settings. Once a container has started the COMMAND, you can't exploit it AFAIK.
