    Can I use gravel or rockwool instead of a coco mat? I can't find any similar to this mat...

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk21 күн бұрын

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry, we recommend the CocoMat specifically because it actively controls the rate of wicking and prevents plants becoming inundated. But you can use a gravel bed or Rockwool as alternative to CocoMat with easy2GO. In either case you need to make sure there's sufficient depth to your base layer - about 25mm If using Rockwool alone don't sit your cubes directly in the tray - even if there is 25mm from base to seed hole We suggest you have a base layer of 25mm Rockwool and then place cubes on top of that If you don't there's a strong possibility that the Rockwool will simply absorb all the water and inundate the plant. We suggest that you always treat your Rockwool for 24hrs in pH 5.5 water, and very gently shake / squeeze to release excess water before use. However you set up (whether with CocoMat/Rockwool/gravel) always place easy2GO directly on the tray Hope that helps, all the best!

    Will thks work on a 4x4 raised bed?

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry, we usually say that AQUAbox Spyder will irrigate up to 3.3ft x 3.3ft. So a single Spyder might serve your purposes at a stretch. Otherwise you could connect 2x Spyders up to a single reservoir using a 9mm / 3/8" tee connector. Admittedly 2x Spyders may mean you don't need to use the full set of strips with each. But the strips can be used as required and cut to size to suit the size of your bed. Hope that helps, all the best!

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry, if you go to 10:03 you'll see the 9mm (3/8") inline / flush tap has been inserted into the end of the pipe run. In the 'closed' position this is quite sufficient to cap off the end of the pipe - remember there's no pumps involved so the only pressure acting on the tap is gravity. The tap simply pushes into the open end of the pipe. Hope that helps, all the best!

    Truly great and reliable system for any plant I can think of. I have two of them set up on two floors of my Dark Propagator DP120. We use 180W of Cosmorrow LED per floor. Never had so much fun from a single indoor system and my beautiful fiancé enjoys it too. Super clean, as we use rock wool exclusively. We’re now mini tomato connoisseurs. I’d love to see AutoPot releasing beautifully-designed racks in “commercial” and “living room growing” decors, that would optimally accommodate T2G, E2P and other integrated systems. Modular, systemic and scalable approach all the way in 💪

    Can I ask a basic question, can you run different crops in the same system. For example a tomato plant in one smart pot and a chilli plant in another fed by the same reservoir? I am thinking of using only water in the res and using my own coco, compost perlite mix in the pots.

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk3 ай бұрын

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry. Yes, you can absolutely run different crops in the same system. Every pot-and-tray module in the system contains it’s own AQUAvalve water control device. All your pot-and-tray modules may be connected to the same reservoir, but each plant is still able to draw exactly what it needs independently of the rest. The only exception to this is easy2grow - where each module contains one AQUAvalve and two pots. But even in easy2grow the individual modules still draw water independently of each other. Hope that helps, all the best

    So this has to be used with soil/coco?

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk3 ай бұрын

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry, apologies for the delay in responding. AutoPot Watering Systems are extremely versatile and can be used with the growing medium / substrate of your choice. In growing trials we have cultivated plants in a vast range of grow media from coral to denim and even pumice stone. But in answer to your question yes, soil or coco are the most commonly used grow media with AutoPot. Whether you choose soil or coco, make sure it is mixed to be absorbent, light, fluffy and free draining. An ideal mix for use with AutoPot is a 50% perlite or pH-stable clay pebbles with 50% soil or coco. The following guidelines and examples should provide a good basis for success. • Always use a good quality soil or coco from a reputable brand. Look for coco that has been buffered and stabilised. If unsure, pot up and pour approx 10L of pH 5.6 water and ¼ strength feed through each pot - this will instantly stabilise the coco. Allow to drain thoroughly before use. • Peat-based composts will compress if used alone, reducing the oxygen content in the root zone. Mix in perlite/clay pebbles/gravel to lighten the compost and improve aeration. Consider that, though rich, peat can compress to virtual solidity. On the other hand Perlite will never compress. Try to create a mix that balances richness with aeration. • For good drainage you should always include a 2.5cm layer of pH-stable clay pebbles, pea gravel, Growstones in the base of each pot. • Whether they are used at the bottom of the pot as additional drainage or as part of a mix, clay pebbles MUST be pH stable. Be aware that certain brands are NOT pH stable and will increase the pH of the water in the tray; this will negatively affect plant growth. To stabilise pebbles soak them in pH 5.0 water for 48hrs, then pour off water. DO NOT RINSE. Hope that helps, all the best

    How long can I reasonably expect to go without filling?

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk4 ай бұрын

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry. The usual disclaimers will apply here - depends on plants grown, weather conditions / climatic controls if indoors etc etc. However, as a rough guide we'd say that: In the early part of the season (when the plants are establishing and growing) the reservoir may last up to 3-4 weeks. As the season progresses the maturing plants will begin to consume more water and liquid fertiliser. In the height of summer growing tomatoes with large amounts of fruit the reservoir will last between 7-14 days. Remember, if you're not elevating your reservoir in order to induce gravity pressure you'll always want your reservoir to be a min of 1/3rd full. Hope that helps, all the best

    Will this work in a higher bed also ?

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk4 ай бұрын

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry. The AQUAbox Spyder will certainly work in a raised bed, you just need to ensure that either: The reservoir you’re using is on the same level as your plants and that all your plants are no more than 2-3 meters away from the reservoir. The fill level of the reservoir relative to the proximity of the AQUAbox will then create enough gravity pressure to drive irrigation as long as the reservoir is kept topped up and doesn’t drop below a third full. Or The reservoir you’re using is elevated by 6” / 150mm above the level of the AQUAbox - thus creating gravity pressure to drive the system Hope that helps, all the best!

    Can I take away 1 bucket and run just 3 plants?

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk4 ай бұрын

    Hi, Many thanks for your enquiry, apologies for the delay in responding. In answer to your question: yes, absolutely. The systems are designed to be completely modular so you can add / remove the pots and trays at will. In the case of the 4Pot System: If your system is already set up you'd simply ensure the reservoir tap was off and that the plants had emptied the other module trays before removing a module. Then simply use the tee connectors / flush tap supplied to reconfigure and cap the loose end where the fourth module previously was before switching the reservoir tap back on. If setting up with just three modules then use the tee / cross connectors / taps supplied to configure as required. Hope that helps, all the best!

    I’m still unclear as to how it works. How does closing the hole activate the flow of water? I can’t seem to form a picture in my head of why this would be. I want to think closing the hole would STOP water from flowing since the air would be trapped. What am I missing? I don’t have an auto pot to examine up close.

    You don't talk about the stool under the reservoir. Does it come with the set? Tell us about it please.

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk5 ай бұрын

    Hi @treymendus, Many thanks for your enquiry. The stool or tank stand you're describing is used to help maintain gravity pressure. This gravity pressure is required for the system to function. However, the stool isn't the only way to maintain gravity pressure. Hence it is not included in the kit. Firstly, if all your plants are no more than 2-3 meters away from the reservoir, then the reservoir can be positioned directly on the floor at the same level as the plants. The fill level of the reservoir relative to the proximity of the system will create enough gravity pressure as long as the reservoir is kept topped up and doesn’t drop below a third full. Secondly, many growers prefer to simply create their own reservoir stand using a step, wooden blocks, breeze blocks, or bricks to a height of 6"/150mm. If you are interested the reservoir stand is available as a separate via our online stores: In the UK: autopot.co.uk/specialist/all-products/reservoirs/rigid-water-tanks/47-litre-tank-stand/ In the US: autopot-usa.com/all-products/reservoirs/12-4-gallon-solid-reservoirs/12-4-gallon-hard-tank-stand/ In RoW: either via your local AutoPot stockist, which are searchable here: autopot.co.uk/specialist/find-nearest-shop/ Or via contact with [email protected] Hope that helps

    Do u have two use the dome

  • @autopotuk
    @autopotuk9 ай бұрын

    Hi Jason, Many thanks for your enquiry. You don't have to use propagation domes, they're not an integral part of the system as such. But they are a great optional add on for helping young plants get established in a watering system. Propagation domes help to generate the humidity that young plants crave. Humidity is an essential part of the micro-environment close to leaves. Lack of humidity directly around plants is a leading cause of poor early growth - as leaves curl to protect the plant and transpiration stops. Your environment, system, and nutrients may be perfect but without local humidity growth can stall. And often when growth stalls for lack of humidity growers will assume something's wrong with feeds, grow media, system etc etc. There's a risk here that you start tweaking the wrong thing, doubly risky when plants are young. Some will say 'every bird has to fly the nest someday' and go right ahead without domes. But to our minds there's nothing wrong with a gradual approach. If you're interested we have the Propagation Domes available via our online stores: In the UK: For 25L (XL) Pots only: autopot.co.uk/specialist/all-products/pots-trays/pots-and-trays/clear-propagation-lid-for-25-l-pots/ For 15L / 8.5 Pots: autopot.co.uk/specialist/all-products/pots-trays/pots-and-trays/clear-propagation-lid-for-8-5-l-15-l-pots/ In the US: For 6.6 gal (XL) pots only: autopot-usa.com/all-products/systems-and-modules/1pot-xl-systems-kits/clear-propagation-lid-for-xl-pots/ For 2.2 gal / 3.9 gal (1Pot / easy2grow) pots: autopot-usa.com/all-products/systems-and-modules/1pot-systems/clear-propagation-lid-for-2-2-gal-and-3-9-gal-pots/ In RoW: either via your local AutoPot stockist, which are searchable here: autopot.co.uk/specialist/find-nearest-shop/ Or via contact with [email protected] Choose the dome for 15L / 8.5L / 2.2 gal / 3.9 gal for 4Pot Systems Hope that helps

    Hi, Many thanks for your comment, apologies for the delay in responding. The pipework needn't be pinned flush to the floor etc but it's always wise to keep undulations to a minimum. Provided you have good gravity pressure it should work fine this way - elevating your reservoir by 6 inches / 150cm is an ideal way to ensure that your pressure is always sufficient. I had doubts about leaks with the home made reservoir. So I used a 2g bucket suspended inside a 5g bucket. These size buckets are very inexpensive in American hardware stores. (The hole is on the bottom of the 2g bucket for a flat surface. Then the hose runs up and over the rim of the 5g bucket, so you have to prime the flow.) Happy to say no leaks. The combination of the top hat, hose, and filter nipple create a good seal.
