I don't know how to describe this but the audience cheering at him going back to the lettuce bit must've hurt so bad. Just spilled his guts out and implied that everyone is there just to laugh at him and was basically told that it's true when he put the layer of comedy back on.

His best performance of all. So close to completely break down on stage here. But he pulled it off and after he disappeared from the stage for 5 years.

5:53 Did he just play C diminished while saying "diminish" or am I just seeing things? That would be funny

Fucking ThANK YOU for playing the lead-in scenes! I had watched the whole special, but was new to Bo, and had not yet seen the Kanye rant, or understood the history. And then I kind of neglected this song in favor of ‘welcome to the internet’ and Kanye, and watching like everything else he has ever done in the meantime. So it feels like forever since I’ve had that proper lead-in. It’s night and day to have this song connected to the preceding collapse, and makes those initial “hands up” and crowd noises a thousand times more impactful. I’m an idiot for rewatching it without that context so many times. Love your reactions! With this move you have just put 90% of the other reactors to open shame. Get em, Bezos!

Loved your respect for the displayed emotion in the performance, waiting and experiencing it, and then looping back for the recap analysis. Respecting the art and feeling it. When people pause it right mid-emotion, I always think they just don’t get it. But you, son, you got it good 😊

I find the laughtrack at the end particularly uncomfortable. Its a very unpleasant set of laughs and I think that was how it was meant to feel

I don't think it's irony. It's an entire song that explains what's happening with his emotional state while also giving you a bit of insight into the feelings of disassociation and de-realization that have plagued him since his breakdown(s) during his Make Happy tour. Each line is internally disconnected from itself. It's almost oxy-moronic but in an eerie and uncanny valley sort of way.

The best part about the spider verse is how on the surface it's about her being a 'bad feminist' but on the deeper level it's about him jumping onto anything he can think of to get her to handle the spider instead of him. It's so insincere and i love it.

At the end he puts his product (himself and his creation) out to the world. Once you do that you can't get back in. It's out there. There was applause and there was laughter, but you've just thrown yourself out there and none of that makes sense in the moment and you can't escape it, you can't take it back.

I watched many reactions to this. So far, you are the only one who got it. That microphone hitting the ground at the end was, so far, to my knowledge, the end of Bo Burnham performing live. "I hope you are happy" were the last words he spoke to a live audience. The screams at the end are an attempt to cover it up, as he is dropping the second half of every line. That was the panic attack.

Loool one thing i learned, on a sexual level, men are physically sexualy driven while women are mentally driven. Mainly guys enjoy porn, strip clubs etc meanwhile women prefers spicy novels, spicy dating games and more mental stimulations.

The whole reaction concept needs to be adjusted. There's something severely flawed about the idea of someone giving their detailed thoughts about the meaning behind something they haven't even seen yet. The alternative that some people embrace is watching the video beforehand, but that takes away from the spontaneity of the situation. There has to be a middle ground between the two. A couple things I'm sure of though, is that I enjoy reactions, but I can't stand listening to someone pontificate about something they obviously don't yet understand, because they haven't had the full experience. There is value in hearing a real-time assessment, but it can go too far, very easily. It takes almost nothing for it to go too far and get into, "I'm an expert in all things, even this thing that you've already seen and I'm just watching for the first time" territory. Just my thoughts.

If you haven't already, you need to watch Tim Minchin, especially "Not Perfect". You can see how strongly he influenced Bo in his approach. The comedy combined with seriousness and reality. His song "Not Perfect" is a very obvious waypoint on Bo's life path.

When he says "needs" he turns towards the crowed, and when he says "Hates you" he turns away from the crowed. That os what realy got me. The positive thing he turn to the crowed, and the negative he turn away from them.

This song kills me every time I hear it... And watching reactions, I always hope the person listening gets it, and has the visceral reaction I do... And then I feel bad for WANTING it. But... I think it's necessary.... Understanding this is.... Necessity. Edit: Your reaction made me subscribe, and I'm so sorry.... "The thing about pain is it demands to be felt."

i kinda like to think that the entire voicemail from the start of "Five Years" kind of just sums the song up to what it really is, its like a song being in a relationship and then you have these sometimes small but heated moments of both of them arguing about something small and start juist fighting for whatever reason and sometimes being annoyed at eachother. Like at the beginning he was just asking her a favor to send him back the voice mail, but after that he starts to just say just do it, i dont have to be the one to do everything, and then becomes a bit of an arguement, but he just cools down and says i love you. And it just reflects the whole song from thta voicemail. I dont know if im right but thats what i got from that. But Bo's creativity for music and comedy still nails everytime

"Look at them they're just staring at me like come and watch the skinny kid with a steadily declining mental health, and laugh as he attempts to give you what he cannot give himself" I’ve been fighting for months to care for my elderly mother while living with multiple chronic illnesses. My doctor recently referred me to a social worker to discuss my abusive household. This line speaks truths beyond words.
