Bridging the gap between "Fine" art and "Fun" art is my goal! I think art is an amazing way to relax and de-stress, and I hope to share that with you! I used spend a lot of time trying to "perfect" my work and stressing over the small details. So much so, that it was no longer fun. But I have found ways to create art that I love, without stressing over the small stuff! (I lovingly call myself a recovering perfectionist.)
I love creating in all types of mediums, but mostly watercolor and mixed media. I "may" be a hoarder (I mean collector, lol) of art supplies, and love using them in new and creative ways. My hope is that you will find the content inspiring, helpful, and that you create what you love, and love what you create. Welcome to my stress-free zone, where we can play with our art supplies and create without fear of judgment! XOXO

Great exercise!
Loved it before stencil
Just found your channel. That grid thing on your work area. What are those called? I just took up oil pastel art in my old age and could really use one of those!
That's a glass media mat by Tim Holtz... I love that thing, lol. Here is a link for you, and glad you found me ☺️ amzn.to/4fjVJ5c
@@Ginger_McElfresh_Art Right on! Thank you!
@@TorontoGuy yw!
Can you kindly tell me about the stencil you used? I love it! Thx
I believe it came from Temu.com....sorry I don't have a link for it 😔. TFW!
What "rules"? I don't follow rules. Sure, if you're trying to copy Davinci, there could be rules if you're studying in Italy or Paris, but that's SO tedious. I know. I took a several week oil class with someone who trained in Italy and it was so tedious for just the underpainting that I couldn't finish the class. I'd love to be that accurate, but am I willing or able to spend that much time ... years ... working on a single painting? Absolutely not. I don't need instant gratification. However, I don't need someone else telling me I'm doing something "wrong". I'm always for learning better techniques, but to tell me I'm "doing it wrong", NOPE. I took one art class in HS and I was told exactly that. Never took another until the oil class ... too many rules. I'm also a recovering perfectionist!
Rules schmules! Lol! It is a process, isn't it? It's just nice to enjoy the process... thanks for watching ☺️
The tornado siren was very, very faint. Didn't notice it that much. Oklahoma is a hot bed for them too.
Whats is one of those lil Teamu stencils? Whaaaat is a T-mu stencil...where to buy?
@@Nancy-tr5fi There is an online store called Temu. It's a lot like Ali Express...basically a very cheap Chinese store. They are a little hit or miss 😉.
Your two abstract paintings looked amazing and you made it look so easy. I am in awe of your talent 🌺
@@millydaisy29 you are too sweet! Thank you for the kind words. Have fun painting!!! TFW 😊
Love the one on the left. It’s a beauty and does look like a landscape.
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching ☺️
I absolutely love your style of abstract watercolor painting! I’m learning so much, very excited to be following you!!
Thanks so much, June! I have been moving, but I'm almost set back up and ready for more art fun! 😁
Those powders really remind me of the Lindy’s Magicals, and they are a blast to play with also. Have you ever heard of them? TFS
@alysonhovanec6314 yes! I love them too!
Loved the video. Love all your abstract videos. Unfortunately, I can't watch the ones that have that music on it. So, thanks for not putting it on this one. 😊
Well thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it. I guess there is always the option to mute if you need to as well, but I will keep this in mind 😊. Happy painting!
@@Ginger_McElfresh_Art - Thanks for replying... - I felt silly after leaving the comment when I realized that I could just turn off the sound. I guess I worried that I would miss something being said. Now I realize I can mute it, AND put on closed captions. Problem solved. 😇
@@jean.marion lol, awesome!!! Thanks so much for watching!
Lovely. May I ask where you got the mixing palettes? They look so useful, especially the Kuretake sized one.
amzn.to/3L0Ezvu is the palette that fits those larger pans! They are pretty handy! TFW 😊!
I love this tutorial. You make it look fun, creative and relaxing. I love the pencil lines. Gives lots of contrast to the abstract look. Never thought of using dewernt ink tense pencils. Will be trying this soon!! Thank You!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for such a nice comment 🥰!
If they cant be reactivated its like acrylic😮
Seeeing many videos on this water soluble oil pastels...they look tacky...not free flowing...honestly i didnt try the. Videos are enough to realise that this isnt for me. But curious to know why many like them though
Ya, I would say if you want a water soluble crayon that is easily reactivated, then I would suggest the Neocolor 2 crayons.
Es un trabajo ! Precioso !❤
¡Muchas gracias!
I just found your channel and I am binge watching! Love your art...
Thanks so much, Linda! I'll be back to filming soon...I'm currently moving 😬, lol. Got some new stuff in the works too 😉
Love it👌❣️❣️❣️❣️
I'm so glad you enjoyed! I hope you have a great day making all the fun paintings 😊!
I love them❣️❣️❣️❣️🤩
Thanks so much, Marsha 🩷!!!
I am a real beginner. I am going to try the way. I like IT. Thanks, Ivanka from the Czech Republic. 🍀👍🍀
Just keep having fun! I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching! 😊
I would not have put those pencil lines in it. It ruined the whole thing.
I guess it would be too late now, lol! I wound up not loving them either... but you don't know until you try! Trial and error is how we learn, and how I teach 😉.
Lovely
I really like this but as a super newbie and with arm/hand issues I find a lot of this tedious and tiring. Of course, some of that is because I'm so new. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd be interested in abstract but i love what you and a couple of others are doing. It's ok to leave some smaller bits and bobs out and make the colors a little bigger and maybe some less of it all? I'm wanting to learn sweet little abstract for cards and bookmarks. Thank you for this series. I wish I could find more of the color combos for the Kuretake paints. Thanks much for sharing
I'm going to work on putting together some color pallettes, specifically for the Kuretake sets 😉. Thanks for watching!
@@Ginger_McElfresh_Art Oh awesome! Thank you so much! As old as I am I should be able to color co-ordinate by now but never had that knack, talent, Lol. I would love to have one of those color cubes, but budget says 'um...no!
That is so lovely, I'm getting me some stencils! What was that brownish paint in the jar? Being new I couldn't figure it out from your supply list below. Thanks much for sharing
Thank you, Kathy! I think that was acrylic paint that I had mixed up with a couple different colors. I couldn't tell you exactly..sorry. I would just get a few bottles of your favorite color craft paints to start out with 😉
This series is awesome and I'm loving it! At 76 and a newbie to the whole art world I need all the help I can get. I had bought that art nouveau set because I had never seen such lovely colors and didn't know how to pair what with what. I bought the regular big set of the Gansi Tambi also and I have two student grade paint sets. (I'm on my way LOL) So far I'm just playing trying to learn some tips, tricks and learning how to paint leaves and flowers...I like the loose style. Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think I'd care for abstract. Don't know what happened but sure am enjoying how to do watercolors in this manner. Thanks much for sharing and would love to see more and how to match up colors. The color cube is out the budget at the moment, but I know it would be helpful for me. Thanks much for sharing your wonderful work!
That sounds exactly like me when I first started, lol! It sounds like you're on the right track. I'll have more videos soon (moving right now, yuk). I recommend looking at nature for color palette inspiration....it's free and perfect!
Love the color palette and relaxed way of painting Ginger…looks really beautiful….will definitely give it a try…❤️
Thanks so much! I hope you have lots of fun 😁!!!
How do I find the description?
If you look underneath the video, but above the comments, you should see something like "more..." then click that, and you will see it, BUT I'm not sure that is visible if you are on a TV. HTH!!! 😊
I love it! I'm new to wc and to your channel. I have both of the Kuretake palettes that you have and being so new not sure what to do with them and also not good with color....yet. I just love that you use those color charts to pick out your colors and paint the sweetest little abstracts! That's another thing, never in my life have I cared for abstract let alone ever find myself trying to wc AND watercolor them LOL. I have found 3 that you have done and saved them. Wish you had lots more. Maybe you have done some more, and I have not found them yet. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Well thank you! It just takes time, and patience with yourself most of all. You got this! I will be filming again soon 😁...in the middle of moving at the moment, 😵💫 but I will be back at it!
Love it ❤
Thank you! 😊
Thank you! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
What a fun video I’m always on the hunt to find artists that create fun watercolor abstracts and I don’t know how I missed your channel. Looks like I’ll be binging your channel all night. I love the stitching and remember loving cross stitching as a child hopefully some of that will come back to me when I give this a try.
Thanks so much for the sweet comment 😊. I'm glad you found me! I will have more content up soon, just in the middle of moving 😬
This turned out better than I expected,❤ it’s beautiful and a great idea.😊 thankyou for the inspiration it will bea fun expérience.😊
Yayy! I hope you have a blast 😊
Lovely! Thank you for these videos! Calming, and explorative. Perfect. 🌻
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed 😊
Great Idea!!!😊
Enjoyed watching the whole process and loved the colors you choose! I think the right side was definitely a great beach scene! 😂 Do you mind sharing the bottles you purchased for the gold mica? So many of them get clogged and don't work the way they say they do so I'm hopeful you found the magic ones 😂.
I think I may have purchased them at Michael's, I'm not sure....but I found these on Amazon, which appear to be the same thing! Just use a needle or very fine wire to clean the tip out if you haven't used them in a long time and they clog 😉...and keep the lid on, lol! amzn.to/3y9ynhT
Pipette where do you get them?
Here is an Amazon link, not sure where else to get them 😉 amzn.to/44mNaSg
I want to bring awareness to the fact that kuretake uses animal products in their paints. They are BEAUTIFUL but surely they can reformulate. They contain - animal hide glue, beeswax, sugar, sugar syrup, and glycerin
Tfs!
I want to bring awareness to the fact that sugar and sugar syrup are not animals but plants!! Is beeswax endangered? The other listed ingredients are all byproducts!!! I love my Kuretake paints and have no problem with their formula!!
I’m not bothered if my paints are made using animal products. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Yes, Hashi IS Mungyo.
Fabulous 👌 ❤
Thank you!!!
Lovely
Thank so much!
I hope you enjoy the fun experimenting and testing we did today with watercolor powder and liquid watercolor. They are so much fun to play with! These are great for sparking creativity...which can be helpful to get out of a creative slump! My SketchBox Store front: bit.ly/4cLNayS I also found more of the dot pens on Amazon....link in description 😉
That brush/water holder looks awesome but I can’t find the link in your description. Do you remember where you found it? I have the lovely art nouveau set as well. I have spent so much time watching artists use them I need to get them open and wet and get to playing with them. I love your style.
Thank you, Sherry! I think I got that from Temu,...it's hard to link those, they keep changing. YES! It is time for you to get those paints wet! Please come join our Facebook group 😉
Are you working wet on dry? It’s gorgeous❤
Well thank you! Yes, wet on dry here....but I may add a little more water here and there 😉
Ditto with the 75 yo lady. I am 82 and was an acrylic painter for several years. Watercolor makes more sense in a small area where I have to worrry about paint splatter etc. Love this.
Yayy! Hopefully this was helpful! That's why I enjoy using so many various media...they all have their perks, and it keeps me from getting bored 😉
IT is interesting....
Your colors are beautiful. ❤
Thanks so much, Lyn!
I love that color combination. Watercolor is such an entertaining medium. Watching it dance on the paper & do its thing is just so much fun. I still love my acrylics but playing with watercolor just makes me so happy. I used watercolor for the first time when in my art class in college years ago & immediately fell in love with it. I just found your channel & love watching your creativity. Thank you. 🎨🖌️
They are so much fun, aren't they? Thanks for watching!
