Microverb 4 ROCKS!
Price in Bangladesh??
Thanks!
I got a friend selling me this mixer for 200.00 is it still worth it?
Nice device👍👍
I just got one of these and am learning to use it with a little 6 channel yamaha together. Thank you!
Wow what a perfect video thx man !
Does it have a phantom power?
Yes, it has 48V phantom power. It can be switched on and off globally (all mic channels, or none) via a switch on the rear panel.
I have 2 KENTON Pro 4
Can you please tell me anything more about those m/s "tricks" you hinted at?
To turn the signals from an M-S (Mid-and-Side) pair to X-Y (coincident stereo) pair, you can do the following: 1. Plug Mid mic into Chanel 1 mic input. Pan central. 2. Plug Side mic into Channel 2 mic input. Mute the channel. 3. Make up a "Y" lead with three stereo (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) 1/4" jack plugs. With solder, short Tip & Ring on one, and solder that combined point to the tip (only) of a second stereo plug and the ring (only) of the other. Connect all sleeves (grounds) together. 4. Plug the jack with the shorted pins into the rear panel Insert socket for Channel 2. 5. Plug the other two jacks into the line inputs of Channels 3 and 4 (panning hard L and R respectively), or the L and R inputs of a stereo channel (panned to centre). This applies the Side mic signal in antiphase to the left and right channels. 6. Bring up the Mid mic level to achieve a good general signal level (adjust gain trim to suit). 7. With the Side mic (Input 2) set to the same gain trim level as Channel 1, bring up Channels 3 & 4 together (or the stereo channel if you're using that), to increase the width of the stereo feed to your taste. Now, of course, if you are just using a single M-S pair of mics, and don't have a need to output an X-Y signal (live streaming, recording to tape etc.), you could ignore this and just pan the Mid and Side mics hard left and right, record as M-S and deal with the matrixing in your DAW; indeed, that can be a safe way of identifying the source of problems with an individual mic (at the cost of a rather weird lop-sided headphone mix.) But this in-mixer approach (especially using the stereo input channel) can be useful if you need to create a balanced stereo mix incorporating a couple of spot mics and/or some other stereo sources. I have also done this with my 1402VLZ mixer, but IIRC, due to its selectable input sensitivity, proper balancing of the stereo input channel only works at one of the positions (+4, I think, but don't quote me!) HTH
That’s such a perfect review video. Exactly how it should be. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
After i try to switch volts to 120 from 240, my mixer went off and mixer doesnt on anymore
Intriguing - there is no voltage selector on my mixer.
Is there anyway to set this up with a DAW to control the track volumes
No this is a total analog mixer
I was watching videos to try to figure out how to hook it up to my power amplifier and my mixer to my speakers and I appreciate you very much
Glad I could help!
Heard this was one of the first drum machines where the clicks on the pads themselves are louder than the actual sounds
Yes - obviously I had a lot of room sound here, but the hard plastic pads are very noisy!
very nice I bought one 2 days ago she is coming home !! but man in your videos we hear more the noise of pas taping than songs lool btw nice
Hope you are enjoying your HR-16 by now. On the subject of the clicking, this video was more about seeing the unit being operated. I'm sure most people will be able to pull down captured files of the HR-16's samples from somewhere on the Internet if they need to hear their actual quality.
I had one that bought new for just under $400.00 but had to sell it about 6 years later when the economy tanked. Does ANYBODY know exactly which model of EMG Humbucker is at the bridge. My Hohner could mimic a Vintage sounding Stratocaster with the bridge pickup split. The neck pickup could epitomize what a Strat neck sounds like to my ears
It had the best user interface but the worst sounds! Peace.
How would you record on this mixer?
This is a simple analogue mixer. It has no internal recording facilities. To record you will have to connect it to an external recorder or PC sound card. The user manual, which is widely available on line, has excellent hookup diagrams for PA and recording configurations.
Can I use this mixer with passive speakers? Or would I need an amplifiers to drive them?
This is a simple analogue mixer and has no internal power amp. You would have to use either an external amplifier and passive speakers, or powered monitors.
Did you like it? Why did you get rid of it
It's a very workmanlike desk. Lack of built-in FX limits it for live work and analogue mixdown, but I used it purely as mic preamps for acquisition into an ADAT-HD24 recorder. It was a compact solution, and did the business. All subsequent mixing was done 'in the box.' Have long since moved on to other solutions (Behringer XR18 for 48kHz 16ch work, and RME UFX for higher sample rate work up to 24ch.), making the CR1604 redundant; not sold yet, but will be soon.
I like the dirty mid range of the original. Appreciate your demo. Convinced me to grab one.
Glad it helped - hope you enjoy it!
Are the line inputs mono or stereo ?
Each channel strip line input is on a mono jack socket. The tape return is via a dedicated LR pair of RCA sockets. The effects return is a dedicated LR pair of 1/4" jack sockets. HTH
Thank you very much for this. I am looking for one to pair with my 8008 as a practice amp, into a Kustom 4x12 which has cheap but acceptable celestions. I know that's a weird practice rig but combos and little speakers annoy me. Everyone else who demos the 9004 focuses on the chainsaw which doesn't interest me.
A lot of great records were made on this mixer. Today there's still engineers that praise/talk good about these mixers (especially the preamps) like Greg Wells and Butch Walker. You get 16 preamps for 150 USD, that's a pretty good deal!
Yes, it's a great mixer. Note 150 USD only on the second-hand market - mine cost about £650 new over 10 years ago!
@@FarewellOldFriends I used to have the old 8 bus that was pre this mixer. But I prefer the sound of the xdr preamps on the 1604, also like it more than the newer revisions of the 1604. Aint a Neve or API but it’s still more than just a ”good enough” preamp.
I just bought a second hand one for $100 Australian dollars. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it cause I’ve pretty much gone digital now but it was too cheap to pass up.
You ever try to figure out how something works but the guy on the video just won’t get to the point
Thanks, Tony!
That was the most british conclusion to a video ive ever seen
The MIX output was way too low in this demo, so we dont hear the real ability of this Alesis. Anyway, thx for the effort.
You're welcome!
Thanks!! They sound a bit dark, but descent! What would you recommend for the 80s classical reverb sound with much of tsss hi frequencies ?
What's the model of your mixer? Thank you :)
Think I used a Mackie 1202VLZ at the time.
Show power xformer
Item has now been sold, so can not open up the mixer to see the transformer. Good of you to ask.
Great video ! I still have this drums machine Alesis HR 16... It always reminds me of the beautiful early days of electronic music... I'm glad that there are still musicians who are excited about old instruments... vintage... All the best to you !!!
Thanks! Hope you still enjoy playing it!
Definitely... I still keep several electronic musical instruments in my studio, from the 80s, 90s... They still represent a source of inspiration. Good luck in everything you do!!!
Can be connect direct to active speaker
please i need to know how to change from insert to direct output on mixer ?
please, I want to ask. if i have a personal monitor mixer behringer p16 and i have an analog mixer but i do not have a direct out . So what should I do ? .
Hi Peter - The PowerPlay P16 monitor uses the 'Ultranet' 16-channel digital interface, which is specific to Behringer. You need a mixer with an Ultranet output, and that is only provided on Behringer's digital mixers, e.g. the X18/XR18 and X32 series. No regular analog mixer, whether Behringer or any other manufacturer, will provide this output, so you will either have to get a suitable digital mixer or give up on the P16.
@@FarewellOldFriends your ans......... mean you do not know . notice the behringer for analog and digital check the behringer page. notice i have behringer now at my church but i do not how to connect it because i do not have direct output and only 2 aux
@@peteryousef5177 Clearly I did not understand your question. Someone else will have to advise you. Good luck!
@@FarewellOldFriends please i need to know how to change from insert to direct output on mixer ? only
@@peteryousef5177 It sounds like you have a mixer with channel insert points (normally TRS sockets), and you wish to send the signal from that point (which is Pre-EQ, Pre-Aux, Pre-fade) as a direct output for recording or other monitoring, without breaking the signal chain to the rest of the channel. If that is correct, you need to make up a special cable. To quote from Page 5 of the SL3242FX Pro User Manual: "All mono input channels are equipped with insert points. They can also be used as pre-EQ direct outputs, without signal flow interruption. For this, you need a cable with a 1/4" TS connector on the recorder/effects processor end, and a bridged stereo 1/4" TRS connector on the console end (tip and ring connected)." This is what I used to connect this mixer to my Alesis HD24 recorder while still using the console for FOH PA. If this is not what you meant, it would help if you could describe your setup in more detail.
Great stuff! Too bad the sound of hitting the pads is almost louder than the sounds themselves.
Midiverb 2 and Microverb 2 are the best Alesis units made. I got a lot of them in my studio. I also had a Midiverb 3 once but that sounded terrible. I gave it away.
Awesome video
Thanks!
Did anyone try to put classic strat pick ups on it?
Looks like 90s office equipment!
Can monitors be added to this board?
If you mean stage monitors, then yes; powered stage monitors can be fed with independent mono monitor mixes from the AUX 1 & 2 sends, if set to Pre-Fade at the individual channels, see Stereo PA diagram on Page 7 of the Owner's Manual (available online as a PDF download from multiple sources).
I own it right now. Very easy programming and song editing. The first with very long pattern capacity (i remember like 64 beats or more). The erase on the fly feature is top notch!
How do I control my mic volume can’t seem to figure it out?
Probably best to ask your friendly neighbourhood sound tech to take you through the operation of this mixer on a one-to-one basis. It's quite a tactile console, and control positions are not hard to learn. Good luck!
I just bought 'in-ear' monitors and wanted to know whuch input jack to use on my Mackie 1604VZL3? Also can I run another musician's same type monitors? Thanks ✌♥️
Hi John - it all depends what sort of in-ear monitors you have bought. If they are just the earphones, they would have to be plugged into the headphone socket, unless you have a dedicated headphone amplifier for them. If they are wireless, you probably want to use a line out from the console. I only have the VLZ, not VLZ3, but I assume they are basically the same - manuals for both are readily available on-line - just google for them. If you look at the Stereo PA Hookup Diagram (p.7 in my User Manual), it shows using the AUX SENDs 1 & 2 for two separate musician cue sends - you could connect a couple of in-ear transmitters to those line outs instead of the (powered) stage monitors shown on the diagram. Note that these cue sends are mono, so you may need a Y-connector adaptor if running stereo in-ear monitors, or use 1 as left and 2 as right for a single stereo cue. Have fun!
The design makes it look like the hypest telephone ever created
Jyeah HR16 One our my early Chirren frpm whence Oui was stirring miracles! ;)
Hi !...cool video. i have a question, how to parts mute, saludos ?
Hi Gonzalo - I sold my HR-16 a few years ago, so only have the Alesis HR-16/MMT8/HR-16B instruction Manual for reference (if you don't have a copy, it's available online if you search for it). It is not very clear, but using the MIX menu (p.17), the volume of individual voices can be reduced to zero. To make this work, you may have to go into the MIDI/UTIL menu (p.18) and set Option 12 - MANUAL VOICE TUNE/MIX (p.22) to ON (it is OFF by default) There may be an easier way to do this, but I can not test it, sorry!
@@FarewellOldFriends Thanks amigo I suspected that. apparently there is no "mute" function anyway thanks for the complete answer !
What is really different on this "CR" version please? i got the 1604 VLZ Pro, and ive clean it, i need to test now like you, so nice. :) the gain control on the top are a bit difficult to test and often stranges responses in my experience
I have no idea why Alesis added a CR prefix. It may simply be a convenient way to indicate within their product range that it is capable of standalone desktop (Console) or Rack-mounted deployment, hence "CR". but that's only a guess - maybe others have a clearer view of this. I certainly don't think it has any electronic significance.
dou yuo have de owner`s manual of it?
Google 'Mackie1604VLZ user manual' - it's available from many sites, e.g. manualslib.com
I own the 1402 VLZ Pro version. The Pro has much better preamps -- much cleaner and more headroom than the VLZ version. The big downside of this mixer is that there is no parametric EQ which I feel is essential for live mixer usage. FYI, during the lifetime of the VLZ Pro and definitely with the (inferior) Onyx v1 preamps, Mackie moved all manufacturing from the US to China. In 2022, this mixer is really not USB interface friendly because it does not direct outs on every channel.
