    Ma'am, Is it similar to Stumbled up on?

  • @a_very_english_quiz
    @a_very_english_quiz7 күн бұрын

    “To bump into” is most similar to “to run into”. You can use “stumble into” or “stumble upon” as a synonym of this, but this phrasal verbs contains more of a nuance of surprise than the others!

    Then in which case do we say that we do a certain thing 'for' a purpose?

  • @a_very_english_quiz
    @a_very_english_quiz15 күн бұрын

    In terms of verbs comparable to “devote to”, one could say: We earmark a certain amount of time for something. We assign a certain amount of time for something. More formal constructions often include “to”: We dedicate a certain amount of time to something.

    Don't teach them as the tenses,just teach about auxiliary verb then teach for tenses.your learning techniques are very formal just as I learnt in my primary school in myanmar

  • @a_very_english_quiz
    @a_very_english_quiz18 күн бұрын

    Thanks for your comment! I don’t teach them as tenses here (it is irrelevant which “time” it is), rather as an aspect with can be combined with the “simple” or the “perfect”. You are right that it is not so productive to list 12 tenses, but rather I try to focus on general usage of the aspect here, and then some specific uses (as in with plans). Yes, I am a little formal! ☺️

    How i will prepare for ielts

  • @a_very_english_quiz
    @a_very_english_quiz15 күн бұрын

    First you need to understand what level you are at and what level you are aiming for. If you need to improve you English beforehand, you should do an appropriate course (either with a teacher or a self-study book) to make sure you are at your required level. Then, you should familiarize yourself with the exam and practice the types of questions that will be on the exam. You can do this with either a specialized IELTS exam preparation course, or with a self-study book!

    So couldnt used for deduction and ability in present? And is it always used in negative?

  • @a_very_english_quiz
    @a_very_english_quiz4 ай бұрын

    Yes, we can use “couldn’t” for deduction in the present. He couldn’t have bought a new car! He has no money! “Could” isn’t used for deduction in this way in the present. It indicates the ability to do something. Or “could have” indicates the possibility that something happened. He could buy a new car. (He has the money and opportunity) He could have bought a new car. (It’s possible)
