    They do one thing well, and that's to reduce the driver's anxiety, as long as you don't destroy his illusion. Here in the US, they're sold primarily to reduce deer collisions. But they're a scam. One study from the University of Wisconsin showed that of the whistles tested, they only emitted at approximately 35 mph (56 kph). And the sound they made was outside the hearing range of all deer species in North America. At about the same time that study was being done, the State of Georgia, if memory serves, put deer whistles on 50% of their motor vehicles via random assignment. After one year, there was no difference between the vehicles with and the vehicles without the whistles in regard to the number of deer strikes.

Might buy a booster in meantime, its mainly to hotspot internet or just get internet on the iphone. Thanks.

Currently have the 9" lethals by them and they are great for the price and put out good solid light. There has been so many variations of their lights so when people give opinions on them confirm which model exactly and how long they've had it. I have a video of the xtm lights up also which are similar to these underwhelmed also. Also have a video of the osram ones too. I'll post a video soon of my current ones. I’ve now got the GME XRS 370 antenna setup with spring base so I can swap out whips easy as old uhf was mounted in dash under CD player / fm stereo, had to have an antenna splitter that was accessible turn knob between Antenna I needed to use . AE4704B 2.1 dB perfect for barringtops NSW and Similar terrain plus also city driving too * Aw4706B black 8.1db 2100mm whip - use that one when drove west coast of WA , Nullarbor plain to port Augusta SA , also from port headland via darwin , Katherine , tenaent creek and over to Mt Isa QLD , * Also have the Aw4705B black 6.6db 1050mm too and use it up and down east coast on main highways. When I had the GME tx series uhf had an older 6.6 1m antenna pus a Uniden 3.0 db both on bull bar . Both antennas were great did what I needed . Also discovered that my mobile phone antenna needs at least 350mm space between your UHF .

    Over here in NZ there is very limited range of mobile antennas available. Jaycar over here only stock one or two UHF & AM CB antennas.So you are stuck with what they stock..Also mountings,no Gutter grips for vans or cars,no mounts for Bullbars etc.Also they are only selling hand helds now.They dont stock mobile rigs anymore. They dont do GME Oricon or Uniden anymore. Only hand helds for kids.So if wanting to install a mobile UHF or AM CB we need to go to Repco or Supercheap Auto.Even they have a very limited range.So no one over here is speicalizeing in CB or UHF radio anymore.Not like the old days of Dick Smith,he had everything for everyone.We all miss Dicky licky !

    1) For the UHF 477 MHz CB the best antenna and location is a 1/4 Wave flexible whip antenna mounted in the centre of the roof - drilled and sealed. The 1/4 Wave whip is only about 20cm in length and will out-perform any high gain antenna on a bull bar. If you have a ute or wagon with no roof rack then this is the best antenna and position. It's virtually invisible and won't get broken off. 2) If you have a roof rack or other thing on the roof then a gutter mount with a 1/4 Wave antenna and spring is almost as good. Both the positions above are ZERO gain which is what you want driving around in hills, mountains, valleys, cities and undulating terrain. Unless you live on the Nullarbor Plain then you want LOW GAIN antennas. 3) A Half Wave length whip antenna on a gutter mount is also excellent and will out-perform any of the higher gain antennas. A gutter mount Half Wave whip is about 2 dBi which is also excellent for talking in most terrain and geographical areas. 4) Remember, if you want to talk over a hill, round a hill, through a valley and through thick bush then LESS dBi is better. Don't believe the marketing BS.

  • @garynewton1263
    @garynewton1263 Жыл бұрын

    WRONG. You are clearly a novice. THE very best antenna for UHF CB is ZCG Scalar 6.5dbi elevated feed ground independent antenna. I did testing of all antenna brands and types in 2011 near Melbourne and I can gaurantee for a fact that the ZCG Scalar 6.5 dbi outperformed all of them at 15 watts. Drilling a hole in the centre of your vehicles roof with a 3 dbi 15 cm antenna gives you no advantage over a ground independent antenna whatsoever. 15 watts x 3dbi=45 watts EIRP. 15 watts x 6.5dbi=97.5 watts EIRP. And you say a 3 dbi 15 cm antenna installed in the centre of the roof is better? You are deluded. Installing a mobile antenna in the centre of a vehicles roof only gives you an equal groundplane radiation pattern on HF frequencies, not on UHF CB Radio. Read some reference books before getting it wrong!
