Great review very interesting.
Great information
Perhaps the original comparison should have been whiskey & brandy. The note that cognac must be from Cognac but whiskey can be from anywhere is a bit apples and Granny Smith apples. Brandy and whiskey can both be made anywhere. Respectively, Cognac can only be made in Cognac and, for example, Bourbon can only be made in the USA.
I truly loved this explanation. Thank you so much.
Very enlightening and educational.
Even vodka fals in the category of whiskey! (the definition of a grain spirit) I used to prefere a good single malt to a cognac 15 years ago price vice. "Unfortunately " I was,nt the only one😅
Thank you for your informative video. I recently went on an Antartica cruise and the trip was interrupted or delayed because of weather conditions (we had to wait until a storm passed before our charter flight would fly and had a 1 day delay and then we had to return half a day early in order to avoid a storm. I thought our credit card's trip interruption policy would cover it and filed a claim. My claim was denied because the trip interruption was due to "weather" and weather was not one of the allowed reasons they covered. What kind of insurance or credit card do you recommend that would cover this?
I'm from China, I bought a bottle of Johnnie's 15-year-old sherry version some time ago, and I'm sick, I say it's really hard to drink, I'm still more used to brandy in foreign distilled wines

I usually add Tennessee whiskey and/or spiced rum to my homemade eggnog. I would like to try a brandy and/or a cognac instead. Which cognac is best suited for eggnog?
Great video
My friend said that when he was an alcoholic he thought that if he drank cognac that made him a high class drunk.
Amazing explain. Luv it
The aging designation for Cognac is very similar to Tequila aging. There’s Blanco which is not aged at all, Reposado which is aged for 2-12 months, Añejo which is aged for 1-3 years, Extra Añejo which is aged for 3 years or more. And then theres Cristalino which is charcoal filtered after it’s been barrel rested or aged. Another similarity is that both liquors are named after a specific region of their country of origin.
Whiskey from the US? At that moment I pressed stop button.
Didn’t expect This lady to be the one to explain cognac to me lol
Many thanks 🙏❤️🌹great clip ❤️
Thank you for a well presented video. One additional difference between the two is the source of oak used in the production of the barrels and how they are produced. American bourbon must be aged in only 100% brand new American oak barrels, while French cognac presumably is made in only French oak barrels. I believe cognac producers use predominately new oak but in general winemaking practices it is very rare that wines would be aged in only new barrels. The actual toasting process in barrel making is radically different when making Whiskey barrels in an American cooperage versus how all French barrels are produced, whether for wine or spirit production. Both of these issues produce eventual aromatic and flavor differences to the two spirits that are admittedly somewhat subtle but also fun to contemplate while enjoying said beverages!!
Can u use this if I’m buying my travel plans from orbitz ?
May be. Check with a couple of providers to see. Often the first thing asked is when was your first deposit for the trip.
Bourbon Whiskey in the Fall and Cognac in the Winter, Cheers. (smile)
Hi, We will be in Burgundy and the Rhone Valley this fall. I was interested in buying some wine and shipping it back home to Pennsylvania. Does the shipping cost make this too expensive? Thanks for any help you can offer!
Shipping wines home can be worth it especially ones that are hard to find like in Burgundy. Also the VAT tax is removed from the bottle cost which helps offset shipping costs!
@@Wine-tours-france Any specific recommendations of wineries that would be worthwhile to visit and get some sent home?
@@christopherhughes1184 you may need a professional to help you! Otherwise, ask your accommodations for assistance.
Thank you
Why is Remy Martin Louis XIII hai special & expensive?
In Scottish Gaelic whisky is uisge-beatha. It means water of life, but the wod whisky is not Gaelic.
Which is better for health ????

Excellent presentation
I have a champagne 1993 produced when France won the world Cup , my question is this has a value at this time.
What’s the producer?
whisky distilled only once? Its not even possible to make a spirit with one distillation 😂
It's NOT whiskey, It's WHISKY.

Whisky HAS to be destilled at least twice. At the 1st destillation you make Low wine. And the age statement for whisky is not that simple. The youngest whisky added has to be the age statement, so older whisky can always be present. And older age does not mean "better quality". Further more the difference in spelling comes from Ireland. They added an "e" to distinguish their brands from the scottish.
You might have a preference for whiskey to be distilled more than once. And there may be regional patterns in distillation runs… but nothing in the law or nomenclature requires whiskey to be distilled more than once to be whiskey. What you’re referring to is a stripping run. But this is only done for pot-stilled whiskeys. In column-stilled whiskeys, the entire run can be done in one shot.
Not trying to start a debate, but that's not true. The most sold whiskey on the planet, Jack Daniels, is distilled only once. Yes it might not compare to other whiskeys sold in terms of quality but that alone shows that whiskey is often distilled only once.
American whiskey is just awful. I was looking for a comparison between a single malt Irish or Scottish whiskey and cognac.
Highly Informative❤
Thanks a lot are all bourbon whiskey the same
Thanks so much for explaining it this way! ❤❤❤❤
I really couldn’t understand when you said second fermentation turns into a colorless spirit how’s that so?
I believe she misspoke and meant to say the second distillation turns it into a colorless spirit. She seems to have conflated fermentation and distillation. As she states "distillation takes place when the wine is fermented. Then the second fermentation makes it a colorless concentrate". This clearly isn't true because fermentation and distillation are two very different things. With all brandies, the fruit juice is fermented into something similar to wine. This is then distilled in a stripping run (not sure what they call this for cognac), which essentially removes the water, alcohol, and other volatile liquids from the solids and other undesirable things. This is often called low-wine. The low-wine in turn is then distilled once again into brandy. The big difference between brandy and whisk(e)y is that brandy is made from fruit, and whisk(e)y is made from grain. For whisky, the starch from grain needs to be converted to sugars before yeast is added. With brandy, the fruit juice, contains sugars instead of starch. Once the yeast converts the sugars into alcohol and die off. It's strained and this is what is distilled. Cognac requires double distillation in pot stills. This is similar to how Scotch whisky is done.
@@pedantic79 Thank you sm for all the information you provided! But i have a question is brandy fermented the same way wine is fermented like does it need any secondary fermentation?
@@Novocalsmtlbeat Brandy is a broad term, and isn't really regulated. The only requirements for being a brandy is to be fermented from the natural sugars in the fruit. You could use store bought grape juice and add yeast, distill it and call it brandy. Cognac, a specific type of brandy, has specific rules that they must follow. That is like what grapes it needs to be made from, from which region those grapes are allowed to be grown. Then twice distilled in copper pot stills. Then aged from oak barrels from specific locations in France. AFAIK, a second fermentation isn't required.
My drink is Gin with lime or tonic...I have tried almost all kind of whiskey, cognac, champagne, vodca, wine,beer..
Does cognac drink with chaser , if so what’s the best , I use cognac with coke
I prefer both on their own!!
My neighbor does too - every night, same combo
This is a poorly layer out video. Why don’t you compare Bourbon and brandy? See what I did there?? Cognac is just brandy. Bourbon can only be produced in the USA. You folks don’t know much about whiskey at all
This was a great overview
Team Cognac 🥃
Awesome and informative video. Good conversation starter when talking to friends over a drink.
in your opinion which taste better ? Cognac or Whiskey? Most asian like Cognac better .
I love both! I lean more towards wheated Bourbons as they are more similar in taste experience to Cognac.
@@Wine-tours-france thanks for your quick response ! I will go out get a bottle of Whiskey today :)
@@MoreThai try a Wheated Bourbon if you like Cognac...ask your local wine and spirits merchant what kind they offer and see what you like!
Thank you for the information 🥃🥃 I love whisky, whiskey, congag and gin, they are all delicious
Hi I have an unopened Korbel Brut Champagne for 3-4 is it still good? Stored in a glass cabinet.
worth a try!
Complicate the process of production and add regions to justify the price. No two humans have the same taste buds.
Pascale, sounds and looks fantastic
Hoping you can join the tour! Cheers
