Pilot Masher

Pilot Masher

Join me as I fly the ICON A5 amphibious light sport aircraft around Southern California and (way) beyond.

As a Private Pilot I’m always amazed by the incredible perspective you get when flying low and slow. The landscape becomes a part of your world - not just something you fly over.
Starting on June 15th, I’ll be spending 2 months flying my ICON A5 around the continental United States.

    The ol Tijuana 2 Step needs extreme caution, 1.) Pilot needs to drain the floatation before take off. 2.) Can anyone say turbo for an overweight aircraft. 3.) a little over a 100 built and 3 have went down. a turbo is a life saver in that boat.

    The ol "Tijuana 2 Step" with just over 100 made @ $400k bout 3 T2S came down with 1000's order and no delivery. How come all the pilots have such a hard time keeping the T2S straight on the runway? wind? with parachute and you get a license from hot chicks in a cpl wks what could go wrong?

    Apparently the maximum altitude is 10,000 feet. :) That is a pretty high altitude for such a small plane.

    Just watched your KORL - KTPF flight in the ICON A5. I used to be a Line Service Technician on the west ramp. . It used to be called Orlando Executive Center. . course now Sheltair is there. . I did my flight training (though did not finished due to ATA Airline Training Academy closing its doors.) I still have the "bug". . I am 47 now and have been thinking about getting back into training. The ICON A5 is my favorite aircraft .. I have never seen one in person, but hope to see one soon. Anyway, watching you taxi from the west ramp brought back a lot of good memories.. I used to live in Orlando and originally from Tampa. . worked at both KORL and TPF.. anyway, thank you.

    @@pilotmasher how do you feel about the cockpit size of the a5 I'm 6,6 just wondering if I would even fit into the thing

  • @pilotmasher
    @pilotmasher4 жыл бұрын

    @aaronanstett I met with one of the ICON reps in NY who was about 6’6” and he fit in pretty well. Biggest concern will be leg room. You’ll probably be a little crunched up, even with the rudder pedals fully forward. Other concern is weight. Limit is 250lbs per seat and it’ll affect overall useful load.

    Does the A5 have a stowage compartment, for say...SCUBA Gear?

  • @pilotmasher
    @pilotmasher4 жыл бұрын

    There's a baggage area behind the two seats that can fit a fair amount of gear. I carried everything I needed for a 2 month trip around the United States. The weight limit for that area is 60 pounds. It might be possible to fit some scuba gear back there, depending on how bulky it is.

    I see your flying at night. I thought you couldn’t because it is a light sport?

  • @TonyCacciarelli
    @TonyCacciarelli4 жыл бұрын

    Good question. The A5 is certified for night flight. A Light Sport pilot license DOES restrict night flight, but I have a Private pilot certificate so I am OK to fly the A5 at night.
