    Thank you so much for the video it was very informative I live in Illinois and I've got one side of my lawn completely shaded with dense maple trees really hard to grow grass. I also have another section that is in complete sun no shade whatsoever I've been getting so much junk in my lawn and I didn't know what it was there's all different types of grasses in there but after listening to your video I think I've been plagued by tall fescue how I got it I don't know I cut my grass meticulously and fertilize it and make sure there's adequate irrigation. I have neighbors that really don't maintain their lawn at all My question is how do I get rid of the tall fescue? At first I tried pulling it out which is impossible for me. Next I tried digging out clumps and receding. But I'll be honest it just keeps growing in different areas. Is there an herbicide that I can spray on it to kill it that way I just can't keep up with it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    @julie4613 Thank you for watching. Unfortunately there isn't really a good way to get rid of it unless you use glyphosate, but that will kill any good grass around it. If you are wanting to take out a whole area that would be an option, but not if you are wanting to get rid of a few clumps spread out. If they are mixed in with good grass the best option is typically digging them out (make sure you get the roots). Then reseed in those areas. Tall fescue clumps are a pain in most people's lawn. Hope this helps.

    looks AWFUL. A bowling green type lawn devoid of clover, buttercups and importantly, pollinating insects! Might as well be a dessert as far as nature is concerned. Is it any wonder birds and hedgehogs are in trouble when there's no habitat for insects. Why such sterile zones are desirable is beyond me. you can have a perfectly good looking lawn with a little variety, everyone's a winner.

    Nope! This is exactly the time that you need to use herbicide and after your grass will come out . Give it another round of weed control. Use Weed Stop from Lowe’s.

  • @diyek1781
    @diyek178110 күн бұрын

    1. You did not grow grass and instead you revived grass. 2. You used the wrong herbicide 3. You used too much water and therefore you invited the weeds. I grow grass in the summer just fine. I am in South Carolina.

    Any tips watering when u have bad water pressure ?

  • @OutoftheWeeds
    @OutoftheWeedsАй бұрын

    Thank you for watching! If you have bad water pressure I would be sure to limit the number of sprinklers running at the same time. If you are only running one and it is still not spraying well, then 2 things: make sure you are using lighter plastic sprinklers (heavier brass sprinklers need more pressure to function better), and just focus on getting enough water for the area you are watering. I usually put out a couple of tuna cans marked at 1/2in and see how long it takes to fill get to the mark. This will give you a good idea of how your sprinkler is doing. Also it will allow you to plan accordingly and move your sprinkler around for the best coverage. I hope this helps!

    Those orbit b hyve timers are nice. I have 6 singles 4 up fromt and 2 on the back faucet with the wifi hub. I setup my times on the app. I like the singles i use 2 timers on my big zones and it allows me to run 2 timers on different faucets at the same time.

  • @OutoftheWeeds
    @OutoftheWeedsАй бұрын

    Yeah I am actually impressed with how easy they were to set up and use. Definitely a much better alternative to moving sprinklers around all the time and waiting. This time of year is tough with keeping a lawn looking good.

    Ok new home owner..this house was a rental property... the people that used to live here didn't care about the lawn. I'm probably late so when should I start putting 007 and the starter fertilizer

  • @OutoftheWeeds
    @OutoftheWeedsАй бұрын

    I would probably hold off on the 007 until next spring because if you want to do some seeding in the fall, the application may prevent you from seeding. If you are just getting started I would probably just get a fertilizer like milorganite. It's the easiest to put down and you don't have to worry about burning out the lawn. You should see good results about 10 days after applying. Just make sure it gets watered in after you put it down. The time to really get after the lawn is typically going to be near the fall. I live in Indiana, so right around Labor Day is when I really start fixing up the yard.

  • @OutoftheWeeds
    @OutoftheWeedsАй бұрын

    I just did it back on May 16th. This is definitely not an ideal time to try to grow grass seed. It's been tough. The fall is much easier to plant grass seed.

    Yeah, that's right. Just mow towards the sun to get the stripes to stand out the best. Then when people are looking at your lawn, the sun will be behind them, and your stripes will be very visible. Thank you for watching!

    The best fertilizer is GRASS fertilizer. No need to go to the big box stores aside buying the big buckets WITH LIDS. Next-cut your lawn, and collect it in a lawn bag. If you have loose branches from trees, break them into smaller pieces and throw all of it in your buckets and use your water hose to fill almost to full. Stir it for at least once for about 2-4 mins for 3 days minimum. Its gonna get reeeeeally stinky as the days go on-the stronger the smell the better actually-that's Nitrogen. I had wild watermelons I planted late last year and it went half-way down the fenceline-insane! My Basil grew so tall the base stem looked like a baby tree branch. My cousin told me about how his grandfather used to do it on a farm and had insane harvests. All from lawn shavings and tree debris. I really have to stress how bad this smells (WEAR GLOVES PERIOD) but the yeilds???? Awesome.❤

    Definitely! If you haven't ever done it before or it's been a long time I think it's a good idea. I typically wait and do it in the fall when I'm seeding, but if you are doing any yard repair in the Spring it's a great idea. I just wouldn't always do it two times a year because I don't think it's necessary. Thank you for watching!
