    If its a secondary vehicle, on road use and there is charging at home and near where you use it, it is pretty nice. That being said, range is a problem towing and a problem on road trips. Don't see EV’s replacing ICE pickups that are the owners only work and personal family hauler until ranges and charging speeds and locations become commonplace.

    Nice to see your truck has the soc on dash update while 2023 folks are still stuck with older software. Does yours have active lane assistance and centering while towing?

  • @heythere9999

    I do have active lane assist and centering while towing. You have to keep your hand on the wheel while towing, otherwise it's the same as Blue Cruise. Honestly, I don't use it while towing, if I have to keep my hands on the wheel, I might as well just drive myself.

    I towed my 16’ enclosed trailer and got 1k per mile. It towed better than any truck I’ve owned but it really affected the range and driving slower didn’t help much. I’d say real world range when towing a larger trailer is about 110-120 miles, with a ten mile buffer

    Buy a Silverado EV. Way way better stats. Almost double the towing range even in cold weather.

  • @heythere9999
    @heythere99997 ай бұрын

    The Silverado EV is far more expensive and I believe they're only selling the work truck version. I don't think they're available in Canada yet anyway. I love my Lightning, it does everything I need it to do. If you're only buying a truck to tow long distances all year long, buy a gas version, no EV will meet your expectations and the charging networks are unreliable and insufficient.

    I toad my ram, 1500 and I filled up the back full of all of my belongings filled up all of the cab except for just room to have my self and usually I get about 400 miles on the highway and I think I was getting like 280 something like that because I had way down my truck so much And I think the charging didn’t take so long. A lot of people would be interested in it, but who really gets out of town all the time if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t drive outside of town to go to other towns, that’s further than 100 miles away electric is for you you will save money, and you will learn how to adapt

    In the month of August I tow just about every day to take my crop down to a receiving shed. Usually about 7,000 lbs, but the round trip is only about 60 miles (30 miles loaded, 30 miles back with only empty boxes, maybe 2,000 lbs on the way back). I wouldn't be towing in the winter, so I think this would work quite well for me as I would be doing all my charging at home.

    Considering how the average pickup driver uses their pickup, I'd say this is acceptable. It's obliviously not ready to replace diesel power for long range or heavy towing, but if all you've gotta do is take your camper or boat to the lake a couple of times a year? Some light household chores? Main issue is the price. That's what keeps me from trading in my truck for one.

    Actually, it does really well when it's really cold. We get down to about -30C around here and I've never had a problem, I can't say the same about gas vehicles I've owned and you can forget about that tractor I was towing, no way it'll start.

    To be fair, if you watch the rest of the video, it was -2C the next day. Either way, you're right, it's not really all that cold for Canada but I also have no reason to tow anything if it's any colder than that anyway. I won't haul the tractor if there's been salt on the road, I won't use the dump trailer because it's got crap paint and will rust out and I don't have much to do with my aluminum trailer.

    Hoodwinked? I just towed 7500 pounds of depleted lead acid batteries on a 3000 pound trailer Combined GVW 16000 LBS, 50 miles out to the recyclers and on the way back stoped for 10 minutes to grab a breakfast sandwich and coffee and top up my Lightning at a DCFC. Then drove the 50 miles back to my shop, grabbed my electric fork truck and loaded my 2000 pound Alaskan cab over camper into the bed of the Lightning. Then my daughter and I went up into the mountains over a pass with 3500 feet of elevation gain camped all night at 30 deg F using the electricity in the trucks battery to heat and cook then came home the next day with 20% remaining in my standard range battery XLT this entire use case cost $8.00 in electricity. How much would that cost you in your ICE truck? Not that you would ever use it to that extreme!

Not just the cutting movement but the actual chain itself could be run off hydraulics and you would only need the bar and chain and a hydraulic motor... Some gearing to make if fast enough. No wasted time/ motion. Good luck, stay safe and keep building awesome things.
