  I was stationed in Singapore with the UK armed forces from the late '60's to '71 when we withdrew. Bugis Street was totally different then. It was all open with stalls for food and drink, frequented by people from all walks of life. Like the rest of Singapore, it has been transformed for the better. An economic miracle no less. Hats off to the late Lee Kuan Yew, probably the greatest statesman in the world.
