MAN this movie!!! Watching this OCD guy wash his hands for 2 seconds and throw out whole bars of soap. Ugh That frumpy waitress pickup his fork that he placed near his plate! LADY WTF Helen hunt sitting on the tub with her back exposed “ BEAUTIFUL LINES OF A WOMAN” Taking the painter into his home. “ you move me” OMG!!!! Great line The dr paying a visit to a poor persons home so they get real medical care….. “ TEARS” The line “ what if this is as good as it gets” I see as a line of determination. If you don’t try harder to solve your issues by doing the hard things then yes it will be as good as it gets BUT he found reasons to try harder and his life is changing. “ WOW”….. Such a good movie.

Very realistic scene. You make the efforts (plural here) to improve your condition, which often leads to ask for help. The response? Worse than indifference. You're being expected to behave/fonction normally, and that's after spending hours and hours explaining that you just don't have the luxury to do so. Not without help.

Fantastic film. It was an instance where the best film that year didn't win the Best Picture Oscar. The film that made a billion dollars did. Some people complain that the Academy Awards don't often reflect public sentiment, but this is probably an example of why that's a good thing. Titanic was a good film, but in hindsight, As Good As It Gets and Good Will Hunting were better written and better acted films. It's just hard to beat a blockbuster romance film with 2 popular young heartthrob actors, a popular director and a memorable soundtrack. I admit, I saw Titanic 3 times in the theatre, mostly just for the painting scene. I was 16 and it was the first time I'd seen anything like that on the big screen. Obviously, this was in the days before such things were readily available for free over the internet and all I had access to at the time was dial up. But I guarantee a film like this could never be made today. Back then, you could show a bigoted character with some redeeming qualities without condoning the negative behaviour. Now, Christians would probably cancel a movie about the bible because it had depictions of the devil and politically correct people want to shut everyone up, regardless of the context. You get it in both ends these days. I miss the 90s, where lunatics on both sides were ignored equally.
