I remember my brush with fame! Dave Thomas Walked right past me, coming off his set, when we went to WKBW Studios for "Dialing for Dollars" , which aired live right after Rocketship7 - I'm guessing around 1967.

I grew up in southern Ontario in the '70s and watched this nearly every day, and Commander Tom also. I'd forgotten about Biff Beeper until now. I still remember most of the News teams too, like Irv Weinstein. 😊👍👍

This was a part of my childhood. I just listened to the theme song, and I cried. "Rocketship 7" and "Commander Tom" were the nest examples of locally-produced Children's Television programming in Western New York.

This really brings back memories, my late brother Soapy and I would listen to the Hound all the time, we started a band and played many East side bars back in the 60's. I remember when he would broadcast one night a week from a place called ACES in the old silk mill building on Broadway. The place would be crowded with those who wanted to listen and dance around. For us the music he played was a beginning to a life of loving R&B that I still have today, at almost 81 I listen to this and get immediate flashbacks to those days. Love it!!!

At 01:58 the text mentions “sound-conditioning” which suggests WBNY was probably bragging about their new, expensive reverb or compression units. Just my guess. For such a dinky little signal, they certainly punched above their weight!

At 01:51 it’s amazing to see Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode on the (then current day) charts! No matter how old and revered, every record had to be a new release at some point, right?
