Hi, This is the channel where Scott Christie posts his official Scott Christie videos. Please subscribe and I will try to make you smile with something...
Very nice, and with the added complexity of the rest on 5.

Thanks so much for the comment. Good ear! The rest is on five and 10 beats in 4/4 to resolve back to the beginning of the pattern.

Really cool, Scott. Does the sustain pedal allow a delay effect on the midi notes, or is more like an infinity gate?
@scottchristieАй бұрын
Good question. What I think you hear as "delay" is from a Roland Fantom using the built-in arpeggiator which, in this case, just repeatedly sounds the same note like a delay with plenty of feedback would do. Sustain pedal here is like an "infinity gate" for the arpeggiator in that it will keep going as long as you want. Additionally, this video (end) shows how two notes played *sequentially* while the sustain pedal is depressed will play *simultaneously* and be locked in time (Midi Time Code) with each other and other elements such as drum machine or delays (neither used in this video). You could easily create this same effect with a delay and one major difference is the two elements (delay vs arpeg) synch differently: The arpeg locks itself to predefined note-values (quantization) when synched to MTC (as it is here) while the delay will more easily allow freer "out-of-grid" playing. The way to think about it is the arpeg grid keeps playing like a metronome even when it's not sounding so it stays in that time grid. If not careful, you can get out of time while the arpeggiator is quiet (but counting time in the background). Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and I hope that answers your question but maybe raises another, who knows. Thanks again for the thoughtful question.

Not an e-drum? Looks like some sort of a hybrid kit using electronic drum pads as triggers to trigger sound bites. Most drummers these days with a hybrid kit use a multi pad to do the same thing.
@scottchristieАй бұрын
It undeniably uses the piezo technology most commonly found in e-drums. I had been using a different setup and built this kit recently to specifically look more like standard edrums so people can relate more. So it appears like the edrums/multipad approach, but it's not at all. It's going to fool a lot of people which is both good and bad (if you want people to understand something different, it needs to look similar to what they already know; but, if it looks similar then people won't see it as different). As you say, most drummers use a multipad to do "something" but definitely not the same thing as this. This is unique. I really appreciate your comment. Thanks.

Your hand is playing the downbeat note, but after rewatching a couple times I just can't tell where that pickup note is coming from each time (the "and", or the first note in the two-note figure)
@scottchristie2 ай бұрын
Always the second note, yes, mostly the "+" of 2. Good ear. It's a delay applied to one layer of the melody I am playing. I usually keep delays really simple like the two-note delay like in this video. There is also a second layer that is played with the right foot. The cool thing about delays is they become a figure-ground experience. So fun. Despite their simplicity delays can be developed in musical ways. The delay also takes on a metronomic function because the distance between the note you play and the delayed-note doesn't vary. So dragging or rushing results in changing the groove slightly which can be heard in that video :( It happens when I get a little excited and rush the groove in the chorus.

@scottchristie3 ай бұрын
I love the train but often it's not visible. It was designed for a puppet show and just got reintegrated into the borg cause needed a place to store it. It has a magnet on top that can trigger reed switches that function as a tap-tempo for some gear that takes midi-time-code. None of that in this video though, the train is just for show. There is a plan for a new track design, Train 2.0 is coming!

How do you know it's got soar throat ?
@scottchristie6 ай бұрын
That is a good question. I inferred the presence of a sore throat on the basis of other cold symptoms and a noticeable swallow. You can see the Osprey use effort to swallow. Usually you don't notice the Osprey swallowing but in this video you do. In other video taken with this one there are many examples of laboured swallowing.
