😮 as I sip a straw colored lager that tastes of sweet boiled corn and let my eyes rest upon the undulating crenellations of the Wasatch range here in Utah, my ears feast upon this svelty seductress with her pipe horn and the frayed nerves of my jittery bone house begin to pivot towards the confluence of tranquility and never Neverland.

Thank you!!! Are you Philip Freihofner? It's such a great piece, and a joy to play!
@philfrei13 ай бұрын
@@ashesnr Hi - yes, that's me. What a wonderful treat to hear this! The joy can be heard in your playing throughout. Great tone, terrific chops, by the way. Love the way you effortlessly whipped out those flurries in the third wife's dance. When I wrote this (mid-1990's) people seemed to be taking the oboe's "extended techniques" as rather serious business. I felt a little subversive, using them in a more playful manner. I had one audience member say he thought it was like distortion on an electric guitar. Another imaginative person thought the combination-tone effects in the 3rd dance were like smoke billowing out of the frying pan. LOL, something I hadn't considered, but it works.
@ashesnr3 ай бұрын
@@philfrei1 That's so kind of you to say! I love your use of extended techniques - the overblowing of the trill in the second movement was a new one for me, and very cool, and I always love when multiphonics are used playfully or melodically. And the electronic gamelan is beautiful, and so fun to play with.
