It goes back even further to the old cowboy movies, which starred it. Then it dies down, and Jerry Lewis era kicks it back off. It dies down. Lastly, Eddie was the 3ird person to kick off that Era to and make those types of movies popular again.

Police academy was first it was more comedy but it was a cop comedy not so much action in comparison but Eddie Murphy is just annoying I never liked Beverly hills cop personally... his stands ups were great early on but I wasn't big on his movies

Eddie is high on his own product. There is a long list of action comedies before Beverly Hills Cop: Smokey and the Bandit, Hooper, 48 Hours, Every Which Way But Loose, 1941, The Three Musketeers, every Jackie Chan movie, etc.
